NetWare Support
Does this list supports the NetWare version (rsync.nlm)? if not does anyone know of a list that does? I'm having all sorts of issues with this ported version on my NetWare 6.5 server.
Thanks

samba 4 for home network sharing
I can't get samba 3 to work with glibc 2.4. Samba 4 seems to work though.
I just want to set up a simple share to share my Linux home directory to a
Windows PC and a Mac OS X. Can this be done with Samba 4? Does anyone
have a sample config file that works?

Why does Samba need a password and Windows doesn't
For both my FreeBSD and my Linux machine to access my WinXP machine I need to
supply the username and password. From the WinXP machine I can access both
the FreeBSD machine and the Linux machine directly, there is no pause for
username and password.
I would like to not use a password in both directions. If windows doesn't need
it why should Samba?

Windows XP login issue
I've just joined the list and this is my first e-mail, I'm sure this has been answered many times. So if someone can direct me to the answer I would appreciate it.
I have samba-2.2.7-3.7.2 installed on a RH7.3 server, not due for upgrade until later this year. I can get the windows 98 and windows 2000 PC to login, but cannot get the Windows XP PC to log in.

UNIX Server Not Seen In Network Nieghborhood
AIX 5.1 / Samba 2.2.5 / Active Directory DNS & WINS servers
The Samba server is only a client and is not configured to be a WINS / DNS / PASSWORD server to PCs. It passes all these requests to W2K AD.
Problem: The Samba server cannot be seen in Network Neighborhood / My Network Places when browsing.

cannot get rsync to run completely - Really need some help in fixing this.
I'm trying to get rsync to do a complete backup of a NetWare server on the same LAN. For some reason it either completes the reading of the file list and starts copying files (only about 25) then it stops with the following error:
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at io.c(1941)
or it does nto start up at all.
I'm using version 2.63 as a .nlm on the NetWare server.

SAMBA Server Not Seen in Network Brotherhood
AIX 5.1 / SAMBA 2.2.5
SAMBA server is a host server only (no PDC / WINS etc) in a 2000 AD domain. All shares can be accessed / authenticated correctly when mapped or called.
But when a client browses MicroSoft Network Neighborhood the server does not show up. It does show up in Active Directory. We've still got users that cannot get away from Network Brotherhood usage.

HELP! can't see Unix printer shares
I'm trying to use Samba to get access to my Unix printer.
Unix System is FreeBSD-2.2-stable, and I'm running the latest port of Samba
for FreeBSD-2.2-stable (Samba 2.0.0) from ftp.freebsd.org.
I've checked all the references I can find on the web, and can't see the
problem. Can anyone point out what I'm doing wrong.
Under NT (adding remote printer), I see the entry for the

Could you use some help with Samba on AIX ?
First we wish to thank everyone at 'samba' for working so hard to produce a great package. It has proven invaluable to our business.
I was checking for downloads and updates on your web site today and notice you did not have any one helping support or provide binaries for AIX systems.
We are a Solaris, AIX, Informix and Novel shop and if I can help with providing some binaries or what

Home Share Question
HPUX / AIX / Samba 2.0.6
I'm trying and getting frustrated with configuration of the SMB.CONF
file to get the [homes] share to be the only name listed when
users browse to these servers. I don't want to have the share
auto renamed to the user name that is attaching. The SMB.CONF
help file states that this can be done. Can someone please tell
me the SMB.CONF [homes] variables that need

the "Force Create Mode" is set to 0777. The log file for this workstation / user gives:

Working Fine - Suddenly Not
Hello All,
AIX 4.3.3 / Samba 2.0.6
Have had no problems in months accessing shares / using SAMBA. This morning users
called to say that they cannot connect. Stopped and restarted the NMBD and SMBD
services. smbstatus shows no issues. Log files show users attempting to connect but
no errors as to why they get the message "\\<server_name> is not accessible The session
