opendir messages with log level = 1 and extd_audit
Hi, I'm using samba 3.0.23d on Debian Etch and wat to use the extd_audit vfs module. In the global section of my smb.conf I use: log level = 1 vfs:0 And in the share section: vfs objects = extd_audit With log lovel 0 for the vfs module I expected to see messages about deleted/unlinked files and directories + mkdir commands. In fact I get opendir messages too. This is filling up the

extd_audit module doesn't write to log.smbd?
Hi all, I'm using Samba 3.0.14a on Debian Sarge. According to Samba HOWTO, I've set syslog = 0 to make extd_audit module writes to log.smbd instead of syslog, but in log.smbd only 1 line about creating new folder was written. How do I make extd_audit module works as HOWTO document? Below is my smb.conf file: ################################################# [global] server string = %h

VFS Extended Auditing output situation
Hello, I'm using Samba 3.0.10 as file server and PDC for some Win2000 Pro clients, and I'd like to get detailed and clear logs of file/dir creation/open/save/deletion on some shares. The standard logs are a bit "too much" for me. The ideal would be a well balanced setting of the extd_audit VFS module, but when trying, some months ago, I discovered it behaved differently than

samba extd_audit question
Hello All, i've tried to enable extd_audit on samba 3.0.34, and while it seems to be working fine, i can't figure out why it still insists on logging entries to syslog, even with syslog=0 log level = 0 vfs:10 log file = log.%U.%m.log or syslog=0 log level = 10 log file = log.%U.%m.log It's very counter intuitive...and quite impossible to do tracing for multiple users.

multiple user folders showing up
I have set up my samba with winbind and it appears to be working fine. Altered the pam.d/system-auth file and it is creating the user directories. The issue I am running into is that if "biguser" logs in and goes to the server and then logs out of the W2K client and then user "david" logs in on the same client and goes to the server he sees shared directories or appears to

separate config for dedicate user
Hello, I run samba 3.6 and I need to track problems for dedicated users. So I thought, I load at the end via include special configurations for the user separately. My question is, how does the smbd configure itself. Does smbd 1) reads the config completely and then it set the parameters in the process or 2) does smbd reads and set each parameter instantly? So can I use the following example?

File deletion logging
Hi, I small network at my job, and it has a samba server. This server has many shares (one for the home of each user, one for each group of users and one "public" share, that anyone can write to, open any file ou even delete then). Lately, I'm experiencing some problems with malicious users who are deleting all files in the public share, and I'd like to know if there is any

Log level and debug classes
Hi, I quote from the smb.conf man page: ------------------------------------ log level (G) The value of the parameter (a astring) allows the debug level (logging level) to be specified in the smb.conf file. This parameter has been extended since the 2.2.x series, now it allow to specify the debug level for multiple debug classes. [...] Example: log level = 3 passdb:5 auth:10 winbind:2

Permissions/ACL's being ignored by Windows clients
Hi, I have a Samba PDC with LDAP backend and the domain works quite well, except for the permissions on the main data share... I have been able to grant full control for my domain admin user, and read access works fine for other users/groups, but any write access I grant seems to get ignored. For example, the Accounting folder on the root of the share is owned by the Accounting group on the

Problem with scheduled task mysteriously stopping
Hi there, I have a scheduled task which I started from Rails, set to run every 5 minutes, it takes probably about 20-30 seconds to execute (it''s aggregating some feeds). It ran for about 5 hours and then mysteriously stopped -- the logs show no errors. This kind of sucks because it''s like a silent failure, has anyone else had this problem? --simon --

MoH mysteriously stopped working
Folks, I have somewhat of a serious issue here. My music on hold mysteriously stopped working. I have made no changes to my Asterisk box in the past month and up until an hour ago, MoH was working fine (as far as I know). Tracking down the causes of a mysteriously shrinking ARC cache?
I have a test Solaris machine with 8 GB of memory. When freshly booted, the ARC consumes 5 GB (and I would be happy to make it consume more) and file-level prefetching works great even when I hit the machine with a lot of simultaneous sequential reads. But overnight, the ARC has shrunk to 2 GB (as reported by arcstat.pl) and file-level prefetching is (as expected at that level) absolutely
