Roaming profiles and accounts
Hi all,
I've managed to install an ubuntu server as PDC, everything is working fine.
However, i've got a few questions regarding profile ( M$ XP ) and unix accounts.
1. Roaming profile : I believed that when logging off a computer, user's profile was moved back to the server. But i can still find one.
Is there anything to do for the profile not to be stored on pc ?

problem with roaming profiles
Hi,
i'm using samba version 3.0.9-2.6-SUSE on suse 9.1 platform with about 40
clients both win XP SP2 and win 2000 SP4 and over 200 users. My problem is
with win xp roaming profiles. It caches profiles onto local drive and every
time user logs off it starts to synchronize users profile. If there are more
than one profiles cached it tries to synchronize all of them and asks

domain controller cannot be contacted
Hi everyone,
I have struggled with this problem for awhile now. randomly and
intermittently a workstation or
bunch of workstations will not be able to log in.
This is pretty much reproduceable at will, and here is what you need to
do to get this little issue to show up:
1. Log out and try to log in as a different user
2. Attempt to login immediately after the machine is booted.

incompatibility between roaming profiles and winxp clients that didn't create them
[samba v3.0.24, gentoo w/ kernel 2.6.15]
I'm hoping someone has some insight into the following problem that I've
recently encountered:
Basically, winxp seems to be creating roaming profiles that are
incompatible with another winxp client. I've got two sets of winxp
clients, which I'll call 'new' and 'old'. Profiles created (and
perfectly usable) by the old

Win2k Roaming Profiles problems under NTFS
Hi there!
I have a Samba 2.2.2 PDC on linux 2.4.13 with ACL (acl.bestbits.at) support
installed. There seems to be a problem with Roaming Profiles. Win2k with
local NTFS filesystem will never delete roaming profiles (yes, I have
regedited the DeleteRoamingCache to 1). In fact, any time TheUser logs back
in, a new folder named TheUser.OURDOMAIN.??? (where ? is an integer) will
be created,

Deleting Roaming Profiles
Hello,
If you don?t want (Who wants ?) to save roaming profiles under
Winnt\Profiles, than you have to change, or create (if not exist) a
registry string:
Run regedt32.exe and locate the key entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Microsoft\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Add (or change) the following string:
DeleteRoamingCache
Standard value is 0, it has to be 1
All the Best.

roaming profiles - filesyncing problem with 3.0.10
Since I upgraded from RedHat 9.0b / Samba 2.2.8 to Samba 3.0.10 I have problems with the roaming profiles of my students. Although the log-files show no errors at all, several users reports me that they are loosing files. One time I saw the problem myself, when a user logged in and had not a single file in her 'Personal Files' after logging out and logging in on the same host the whole

FW: Roaming Profiles & oplocks problems
Rob,
When u use a TNT2-M64, why dont you use the Windows drivers for this
card, as i believe the TNT2 is good supported within windows xp.
You only should use the NVIDIA driver when your gaming... and you probely
dont do that with the TNT2-M64 card.
Also thank you for testing this.
i cant think of any which will resolve your problem besides above.

Disabling storeing of cached profiles?
Hello!
I know that this is not samba related, but may be some one knows a
quick answer:
When using profiles, stored on a well running samba-2.0.0beta2 PDC,
the NT PC's cache the profile during a user session. As this
profile is not deleted on the PC and we have a lot of users with only
few PC's we need a lot of diskspace for this old profiles.
Is there a way (Registry Key, ..) that

Samba 3.6.23 and Windows 7
After being content with an old laptop running XP for years, my job
decided to provide me with a shiny new one running Windows 7 Professional.
The biggest problem with this is that I can't get the Windows 7 box to
login to my Samba NT4-style domain controller. I have upgraded samba
from 3.0.33 to 3.6.23, and copied my smbpasswd file to where the new
samba expects to find it in

Strange problem with icons on the desktop
Thanks everyone for helping me get the home directories working over
SMB, especially Ben Ford for his workaround for the Xauth and GDM.
Now I've got a problem that, most likely, nobody's ever noticed
before... or is something specific to me. I've got a Linux client, and a
Samba server, and a Windows 2000 server, both set up EXACTLY the same.
I've got a test user and the home

PDC Multiple users
Hi list:
I've been using samba+ldap as a PDC with roaming profiles for some
time but recently I joined some machines to the domain wich are used
by several users and then started the problems, the profiles loaded
are not the ones owned by the users, I mean user1 loads the profile of
the user2 and so on. I'm using Debian Etch (stable) with samba 3.0.24.
Any Help
Thanks

documentation for configuring folder redirection
I believe that once you have roaming profiles configured, all you need to do
to configure folder redirection is set some registry keys. I'd like to turn
that job over to our Windows sys admin. Can someone provide me with their
favorite documentation for configuring folder redirection? Keep in mind I am
passing this link along to a Windows sys admin. Our backend is samba 3.6.3

Logon script with Administrator rights
I am using a .bat logon script (the same for all users) and it avoids that I
have to configure each user manually. But now I have to run a command that
requires administrator rights on two files, and the command I write in the
.bat file doesn't work.
Do you know how to run the logon script as the local machine Administrator?
After all, the logon script is on the server and only me can

Profiles and Win2000
Hi
We're running Samba 2.2.7a as a PDC for Windows2000 SP2 Clients.
Everthing works just fine, but there is one problem:
The clients save their profiles on the PDC (~/.Profiles), but don't
delete the local copy of the profile (C:\My Documents\$user).
This causes a really big problem, since the client's HD's aren't that
big and these profiles grow every day.
Is there any way

Hi,
I was wanting to know how to have profiles removed form Win2k Machines

Not sure if I have already asked this here, or just looked for the
answer in the archives, either way I still don't know the answer :(
Thanks for any help.

Strange Roaming Profiles problem
Hi experts,
I encounter a serious problem using Roaming Profiles unter XP Prof. I don't
know if this is realy a Samba issue, mybe someone has already solved the
same problem. I am running Samba 2.2.5 as an PDC using LDAP.
The first time I log on with user "tom", all looks perfect and a profile is
downloaded from the Samba PDC, say into D:\Documents and Settings\tom. Then

PDC as wins server
We have a Samba server which acts mainly as file server, but we want it to
resolve host names for local machines. I have written some IP-hostname lines
both in /etc/hosts and /etc/samba/lmhosts, and I have "wins support = yes"
in smb.conf, but then from a Windows client I try to ping one of those hosts
and it can't resolve the address.
I have tried some combinations of
