ssh 4.x using aix 5.3 auditing
Im trying to identify how ssh 4.5 interacts with the audit subsystem within AIX 5.3. i get an event when a user logs in, but not when they exit via ssh. i can get it to work with telnet, however. It would seem to me that if an event is captured from the login, that the same would be true for the logout. I've opened a PMR w/IBM, but not getting very much help.
below is an example of my

AIX and NT password sync
An update on my problem with NT workstations accessing Samba running on AIX 4.3.2.
I checked the www.redbooks.ibm.com website, and the IBM manual AIX for Windows NT: Solutions for Interoperability SG24-5102-01 states that they recommend a product called Passync by Suntunix. I tried to find their website (www.syntunix.com) and it seems they've gone out of business!
Does anyone know

passwords for NT and AIX
I've finally gotten Samba (version 1.9.18p4) working on a RS/6000 server running AIX version 4.3.2, for a group of Windows NT 4.0 workstations on build 5 to access some shared directories. Everything works fine when I set them up - I have

IBM ServeRAID M5014 and CentOS 5.5
Hi all,
we are about to buy some IBM x3550 M2 servers with ServeRAID M5014 SAS
onboard controller. Can anyone confirm that these controllers will work
with CentOS 5.5 (seems to be some rebranded LSI controller).
I cannot find any hint in the 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5 sources...
Regards,
Peter

speed-tuning samba?
What's the current state of the art with this black magic?
It looks like there are a vast number of tuning options and the ones
that typically show up in advice are:
socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY
read raw = yes
write raw = yes
oplocks = yes
max xmit = 65535
dead time = 15
getwd cache = yes
some of which may be the defaults anyway.
One thing in particular that I'd like to

Building on AIX 5.1, 5.2
Hello all,
Has anyone built Samba 3.0.0 (or the 3.0.1pre1 release) on AIX 5.1 or 5.2
using the IBM VisualAge C/C++ 6.0 compilers? I am consistently seeing the
error:
"lib/system.c", line 1325.25: 1506-045 (S) Undeclared identifier ATTR_MAX_VALUELEN.
"lib/system.c", line 1325.25: 1506-195 (S) Integral constant expression with a value greater than zero is required.

os/2 & AIX & Samba & VisualAge error
While trying to switch a domain from an WinNT 4.0 SP ? to an AIX 4.3 with samba 2.2.8 with OS2/warp 4 clients we receive some unexpected errors.
- we can log on to the new domain , run logon scripts, map network drives , store and retrive files , print to a Remote server using the printers shared by samba.
- we can't run VisualAge Generator (2.X) retriving files from the samba server. (we

R-1.8.0 + IBM VisualAge/C for AIX compiler
A while ago I compiled R 1.7.0 for AIX (with the above compiler - I'll
call it xlc) and I was surprised that it went quite smoothly.
Unfortunately with R 1.8.0 it's not as easy, but I succeeded at least
partially. Static R works fine (after some tweaking), but
--enable-R-shlib fails resp. produces a buggy R. Following are the
problems I encountered (in a warning-to-fatal-error

backup LDAP
does winbind have the capability to have a backup idmap backend via ldap?
ie: idmap_backend = ldap://primary
idmap_backend = ldap://secondary
I know this syntax is not allowed but I'm wondering if anybody sees this as
a usable feature. I apologize ahead of time if this is not the catalyst of a
relevant discussion.
Thanks all....

R 1.5.1 on AIX 5.1
I'm trying to get R running on AIX 5.1 with the native AIX compilers, VisualAge C++
5.0.2.0 and XL Fortran Compiler 7.1.0.0. R compiled fine, but in running the test
cases, the base-Ex.R tests fail in the Choleski decomposition with the following:
> x <- matrix(c(1:5, (1:5)^2), 5, 2)
> m <- crossprod(x)
> Q <- chol(m)

(Patch) AIX SRC Support
I've added System Resource Controller Support with
Socket Communications to Openssh.
We are using this code since 2.9.9p2 on AIX 4.2 and 4.3 without
problems. I've also tested the patched OpenSSH 3.1p1 on AIX 5.1.
It's mainly based on examples from the IBM Redbook
"Writing Reliable AIX Daemons".
The SRC request handler supports START, STOP, REFRESH and STATUS
requests

AIX patch for openssh-3.7.1p2
There are a couple of bugs in the openssh-3.7.1p2. The aix_setauthdb
function does not work with other types of authentication such as AFS/DFS.
The loginfailed test in configure is not correct. Also, AIX can use the
wtmp logging which I added in configure. Attached is the patch.
Thanks,
Matt Richards

OT: reset IBM Bladecenter AMM web access
Hi all,
Sorry for the OT.
Does anyone can share to how to reset an IBM Bladecenter Advance
Management Module web access?
Recently, I've got an IBM Bladecenter chassis E 8677. There's no one in
the office who knows about the IP nor the password for it.
Thank you,

AIX libjpeg still looms
Simon,
Did you get a chance to review your AIX configuration? I'd be
curious to know the differences with my own as while I have R installed,
I still get the error related to libjpeg.a.
Error in get(getOption("device"))() : X11 module cannot be loaded
In addition: Warning message:

their success, please?
Thanks

Compiling Samba on AIX 5.3 with idmap_rid fails
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to use idmap_rid with Samba 3.0.21c on AIX 5.3. So far, I've
not been successful.
I've followed the method from
http://us5.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/AIX/README to compile Samba,
but added "--with-static-modules=idmap_rid". Also, I used IBM's compiler
and not gcc.
The compilation fails as follows:

Samba on an AIX - HACMP Cluster
Hi!
Has anybody experience in running Samba on an IBM AIX High Availability
Cluster with 2 nodes? At the moment we are using NFS + Maestro NFS-Client
for NT and want to change to a server software using SMB (meaning either IBM
FastConnect or Samba).
The server is supposed to be a file server for about 1000 Users. We don't
need advanced futures like load balancing or take over of active

windows clients can't see workgroup at all
I'm trying to troubleshoot a new samba setup on a tiny network, and I'm
clearly missing something. I'm running Samba 3.0.22 on Ubuntu Linux.
When I first set it up, it seemed to go so smoothly. I changed all the
workstations to the same workgroup (RABNETWORK) and they could see each
other and the server, but they couldn't open anything on the server. I don't
really understand
