Samba 3.0.14 - files visible, cannot double-click them from Windows clients
Hello: I am operating a Samba server as the only domain controller in a network consisting of 8 Windows 2000 clients and two Windows 98 clients. The server is running as a virtual machine in Xen and connects to the network over a bridged interface (I mention this because it may be relevant to the problem). 1. If the Samba server is configured thusly: [global] domain master = yes local master =

Samba interface for administrative tools
Hi all, I have tried to write management tools for samba, but it seems there's no standard way provided by Samba to change its configuration or modify users account other than direct modify the config file and or database backend. This make many tools less portable because it depends on the backend of samba. There might be a windows rpc call (use by usrmgr.exe and svrmgr.exe), is it the

Help with user/domain Management fm Windows side
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Back-end is LDAP. What are some good techniques for Domain management from the windows side? I've got usermgr.exe and svrmgr.exe but: 1. I don't know what functions these tools are or are not supposed to be able to perform on a Samba domain as yet. 2. I can delete users but I cannot seem to add them or modify them. ~From smb.conf: add user

Samba 4.1.9 - Security tab not showing
Hi, Im install Samba 4.1.9 (compiled from sources) with bind_dlz on Centos 6.5. Everything works fine. The problem is when I try to manage samba shares from windows, I don't see the security tab. Samba is run as root. To share sysvol and netlogon can enter and manage the security tab. Everything is ok. I've added a test test2 test3 shares When I want to get to share test test1 test2

Re: Window Scrolling on OSX
Thanks for working on it regardless, all these compiling issues are beyond most of us. Everything is "easy" or "manageable" to fix as long as you know how! I don't know if it's available via Macports, but I imagine Darwine is rather tweaked for the Mac beyond merely being a straight port, I don't know if Macports would throw up similar compiler issues. I received

currently no logon servers available to service logon request
Hi all, My Samba server with winbind in an NT4 domain ran fine for a year, now this message is all we get from the windows side. Can it be because it is not listed in the WINS? Whe I look at it from Svrmgr in NT then it says access denied. The same happens using net view Why does it not register with the WINS server? If I configure Samba as a wins server - will it run together with an NT WINS

FreeBSD add user script syntax
I've got Samba set up as a domain controller successfully, and am now wanting to user usrmgr.exe and svrmgr.exe to make basic user admin changes from a Windows workstation. Some stuff works, and some stuff doesn't, and I was looking for some help with the script sections listed here... What works: add user script = pw user add -n %u -g users -c "Windows User" -s

Samba NT Domain User/Group Confusion
I'm confused about how this works in Samba. Its been a while since I set up a server and I've gotten myself confused. The new server are Ubuntu AMD64 Linux with Samba 3.0.22 One of these is the PDC. The legacy Servers are Solaris 8 running Samba 3.0.24. We are using winbindd and local tdb files on the PDC for authentication. We plan to migrate to LDAP latter. I have used SWAT to

Re: Window Scrolling on OSX
I did read something about the Qartzdriver, supposedly by the guy who originated Darwine, but was built for older version of Wine... Don't know if there's current work being done on it. WineHelper is a step in the right direction, but ideally when Wine works better, it shouldn't open various log windows, process windows, and whatnot (while being available for debugging), and X11

Could you please elaborate on "Date header is not mandatory"? As far as the message format goes, "Date" and "From" are actually the two required headers in every message (see RFC 5322), so I am not quite

Geoplan/Geospace almost works...
Hi. I'm a math teacher, and I would like to use Geoplan/Geospace under wine (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4002). Problem is, the (non modal) dialog box behave badly. For example, as explained on the db page, the window can't be selected, no mouse action on it does anything, and worse, the property dialog can't be opened without crashing the

Must you "net join" for the Samba machine to become a domain member?
Question: I want to setup a Samba server as a domain member, allowing Windows PC to map unix server directories, but having the authentication performed by our Windows Domain Controller(s). I'm basically following this example from the Samba docs: http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba3-HOWTO/domain-member.html#id2538809 It appears to me that I must "net join" the domain from

Performance problem with CentOS and XFS on EMC
We have an appliance that uses the CentOS 4.4 Plus kernel with XFS on an EMC RAID array that performs about ? or less as well with cached i/o than with direct i/o. With direct i/o we get about 32Mb/s throughput or better, but if we enable the cache for the EMC RAID, we only get 8Mb/s or less. This doesn't happen if we use JFS, where we get a little less than 32Mb/s throughput with or without

CentOS and EMC PowerPath/Naviagent
Is anyone using CentOS 4.4 with an EMC Clariion SAN? In particular, I want to know if PowerPath and Naviagent will work on a CentOS 4 system connected to a san using Qlogic or Emulex cards. I tried a couple years ago with Fedora Core 1 or 2, and couldn't get the kernel modules from PowerPath to work since the kernel wasn't the official RHEL one. I'm most interested in
