Praise and thanks
Hey all,
I just wanted to express my thanks for the help and advice that I got off of
the list. We have successfully replaced our aging NT4 server with a Sun
E250/Solaris 8/Samba 2.2.4/Sunray system, acting as a PDC for our
Win98/2k/XP clients (BTW: didn't need to use the XP registry hack at all)
and with a Win2k server hanging off of it for application and remote desktop
services for the

Help configuring firewall
I am trying to configure a firewall, but nailing down the configuration
is eluding me. The box is running Debian stable.
Basically, I have a rackmount server with six network cards. eth0 is the
internal network, eth1 is a kiosk network, eth2 is a DMZ/wireless
network. On the outbound side, eth3 is a DSL connection and eth4 is a
cablemodem connection.
What I am trying to do is route all internal

PXE 0.99h stacks... any chance?
Hi
I have searched the site, list archives, google etc and have not been
able to find an appropriate answer so I am asking it here. Apologies if
this has been answered already.
I have a kiosk-style pc which I wish to remote boot to keep it quiet.
This way I don't need a hard disk at all, keeping it truly silent as it
has a passive cpu cooler. Unfortunately, it has no upgrade options. I

Managing git submodules with git.rake
Hey all,
If you''re like me and use git submodules heavily (I vendor everything,
and every plugin is a submodule), you might like to hear about code
published this morning to make it easier to manage multiple git
submodules in a shared-server environment.
It''s imaginatively titled ''git-rake'', and it does Good Things like:

PXEBoot/Diskless client NFS issue
Hey CentOS list!
I've got an oddity with a diskless client setup that I suspect is the
result of the initrd.img I'm using, or some parameter I'm unaware -- or I
need to build my own initrd image (and could use some assistance on what
has to be done in that department)
Testbed is defined as:
VM A:
ip: 192.168.250.10 with dhcp server, tftp server, nfs server

net ads leave / join desperation
hi everyone!
i'm desperate. all i was supposed to do, was leave the current ADS (w2k DC)
in which samba
has been working flawlessly (except for the excel sharing bug and permission
problems) for
1,5 years and integrate it into the new w2k3 DC.
now for versions and misc data:

smbspool to Windows 2000 Server: "ERRgeneral opening remote file"
Hi,
I am trying to print from my Debian unstable Notebook to a printer
that is connected to a Windows 2000 Server. Target environment is CUPS
which uses smbspool as a front-end, and smbspool gives a strange error
message.
| export DEVICE_URI="smb://account:password@domain/server/printer"
| smbspool foo bar Title 1 ignore Makefile
gives the error message

ERROR: cli_session_request() failed...
Hello,
I am using smbspool and I seem to be getting an error that I can't find
a solution to. I checked Google, Usenet and the samba archives. I seem
to find people with the problem, but no answer. When I try to use the
smbspool program, I get the following error:

W2K3 SP1 - PERSISTENT CONNECTION(S) BUG?
After testing my W2K3 SP1 terminal server against a SAMBA server *AND* a

unable to join w2k3 SP1 to samba 3 domain.
Hello,
I've been trying to join w2k3 machine to samba 3 domain for a last few
hours. This is strange but all I get from joining process is: The
Specified User Already Exists. More than 100 machines running XP are
already added to the same domain as well as Linux machines. The only
problem I've got is 2003 server.
This w2k3 server is quite pure however it wasn't me who has installed

W2k3 with more than one QXL video card
Hi,
Is that possible?
If I start in normal VGA mode I can see yellow ! next to the 2nd and 3rd
QXL card and Win complains about can't start (Code 10).
If I want to change the normal VGA resolution in a higher res (for example
800x600) I got black screen in virt-manager. I use SPICE protocol (for more
screens).
Any solution?

W2k to W2k3 winbind enumeration issue?
I've been in the process of decommissioning a W2k domain controller and
moving the whole show to a new machine with W2k3. Everything has moved
along quite well except changing the samba setup to use the new system.
A little background:
Samba 3.0.10 on gentoo
KRB5 ver 1.3.1-r1
using winbind/kerberos to integrate the samba server as an AD member server.

Strange problems with Samba 3.0.32 as ADS member of W2k3 domain
hello,
i've some strange problems with my samba-servers acting as domain-member
(ADS) in a W2k3 active directory.
we have 3 DCs here and running samba without specifying a dedicated "password server"
doesn't work! the 3 DCs have the following roles:
- DC1: PDC-emulator, has global catalog
- DC2: RID-master, infrastructure-master, no global catalog
- DC3: no special role,
