AD member server setup with winbind idmap_rid - users prompted fo r password
Question:
How can I stop users from being prompted for a password?
Is secrets.tdb needed?
Do you think my problems are caused by having a different workgroup to
realm?
Problems:
I've gone over samba-by-example 7.3.4.1 on setting up idmap_rid with winbind
quite a few times now. I also checked what JHT has said in chapter 12. All
of it seems correct. However I get loads of this before the

Annoying lpq commands appear after testparm
I am using a master-smb.conf with one other include for the shares file.
Every time that I do a testparm -s master-smb.conf and then check the
resulting file I see these config directives, which I haven't defined:
printing = cups
print command =
lpq command = %p
lprm command =
But this is after I have defined "printing = cups", any ideas why? Or is

XP SP2 - winlogon.exe crashes
==============
The problem:
==============
I am in the testing stages of implementing a Samba domain.
My user is logging on to a standard win xp SP2 desktop, with the samba pdc,
supplying the credentials. The logon screen disappears and an "SAS window:
winlogon.exe - Application Error" box pops up on the Win XP screen. If I
click OK the machine reboots.
My user can log onto the Debian

samba4 openldap
I see that samba4 will have it's own LDAP database. How will the support
for OpenLDAP be? if anyone knows. Will I have the option to use OpenLDAP
still for all the new features so as to be able to use current apps that
use OpenLDAP already? If anyone has info regarding this, it would be
appreciated. Thanks.

Troubles setting up winbind for nt4 style samba domain
I'm getting these errors on starting up winbindd, and I am not sure if this
is normal in my situation, I have no trust accounts, I don't deal in AD
domains. Can somone tell me if I need to worry about this?:

re. 3.4.9 printing addprinter command reparse doesn't see new printer
Please don't hijack threads.
You could try something like /etc/init.d/samba restart (or your local
equivalent) to the end of perl script.

hello
I have cups printing with cups 1.4.4. I'm using the included
smbaddprinter.pl command to add printers to my server.
Now, my error is that when I add the printer, I get ACCESS DENIED in the

configs
I'm seeing very long delays the first time winbind accesses the network.
See: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=496569
I've tried lots of things, down to stripping the config to a bare
minimum for ADS security and even killing ipv6 support on the box.
Nothing has resolved this.
Does anyone see anything obviously wrong with this configuration that
might cause a very long

nss and pam with ssl and sarge debian
I'm working from the samba 3 how-to and creating my own how-to so that I get
everything straight in my head. I'm trying to make an exchange replacement
with samba + ldap + open-xchange + cyrus + postfix + postgresql etc etc.
At the minute I'm trying to find out if Sarge has ssl already enabled in
it's PAM and NSS packages, instead of me trying to compile it myself.
Anyone know

Hey all,
I have just installed samba on my Slackware 10.1 server, and intend on
using it for sharing files between 2 windows xp machines, and one
apple running OS X 10.4.
However, when I attempt to connect to the server I recieve these errors:

APW issue and excessive Get-Printer-Attributes in CUPS access_log
Hello all,
I am trying to get to the bottom of a printing issue with
samba-3.0.25b-2.fc7 and cups-1.2.11-2.fc7. I wasn't sure whether to
start here or the CUPS list.
When left running for an hour or two, the CUPS process will often be
left using nearly 100% CPU. At this point, printing and add printer
wizard operations from Windows clients over Samba are unreliable.

Add Printer Wizard and Slowness
Hello all,
We have a Samba box set up as our primary campus print server, running
CUPS 1.1.19 and Samba 3.3.0. Our primary interface for adding printers
is the Add Printer Wizard. I am finding very slow response while
adding/modifying/deleting printers.
Making changes to any of the settings for a printer (default tray,
driver, etc) can take 20-40 seconds or will sometimes timeout, requiring

Manual UID & GID mapping with Active Directory
Greetings,
I'm looking how I can set manually the GID & UID of my Active Directory
users into Samba & Winbind.
I have several server linux using Samba and they are linked to Active
Directory to get users & groups. On all my Linux system I did a "net
join ads". Also I set this option in all smb.conf:
idmap uid = 20000-30000
idmap gid =

Samba, OS X Tiger 10.4 plain text password, username null-padded?
Our samba server is running Solaris 9 and Samba 3.0.2.a . For reasons
*outside the scope of this question* we are using plaintext passwords
and authenticating via our NFS server. (I know this isn't a great
idea, but that's not the question)
With Panther, plaintext passwords worked fine. Snooping, I see the
plain text password and username go through.
With Tiger, we first had to apply

smb panic when adding printer with apw
Hi,
I'm using samba 3.3.15 as domain member in an w2k8 ad. We're using the
w2k3/xp add printer wizard to add a printer to the server. Since the
update from 3.2.15 to 3.3.15 the apw fails when clicking on the "finish"
button. At the same time a smb panic occurs and fills the smbd log with
the lines below.

BLOATED LDAP Traffic from Samba
Hello All,
I am having an issue with a samba 3.0.21a with LDAP backened installation.
My Samba PDC is sending tons of traffic my ldapserver(iplanet) and is
causing the ldap server load to peak consitently over a ridiculous 91%.
Logons come to a crawl because the ldap load is so high. I don't not have
roaming profiles enabled.
Here is an excerpt from a logfile (log level=2):
