share write access
Hi, I am testing share parameters, and have the following share definition: ## Section - [shareA] [shareA] path = /tmp/shareA writelist = user1 and do not understand why user1 cannot write files in the share when connected as user1. Unix permissions for the share files are rw for everyone, and the share directory has wide-open permissions. Samba version is 3.0.20b-3.4-SUSE.

If I mount to \\server\share I'm not able to see anything - but the mapping to the same server (from a Win2000 client) is okay, and I can see the contents of the directory... Cannot connect to a windows network
Hello, I am trying to use Samba to let me mount windows network drives on an Ubuntu Dapper Server installation that I am using as a desktop. Using: testparm my smb.conf seems to be ok. Using smbclient -L GM.local -U username -p Gives me a full listing of all network drives, which again seems to be good. So now I try this: sudo mount -t smbfs -o username=username \//GM.local/DC4

Ext3 filesystem modified while mounted read-only
I noticed that ext3 filesystems are modified if mounted read-only: # mke2fs -j /dev/hdb1 [...] # md5sum /dev/hdb1 > MD5SUM # mount -t ext3 -o ro /dev/hdb1 /mnt/test1 # umount /mnt/test1 # md5sum -c MD5SUM md5sum: MD5 check failed for '/dev/hdb1' On examination of a block-for-block copy of 'before' and 'after' images with od and diff, I believe that the changes are

Announcing EXT2FS lib for syslinux
Here is the initial release: git://github.com/donhiatt/Syslinux-EXT2FS-Library-port.git I am very new to git so I hope I managed to get the repo setup properly. The repo is branched from 'disklib' as I plan to use it for all disk read/write access (I'm currently using modified gpllib/disk/* -- see README). Cheers, don ----- README for ext2fs module. * Description -----------

short read while checking ext3 journal
My UPS failed and my server took an 'unscheduled outage' a few weeks ago. The only casualty appears to be a volume I used for backup. I usually maintain data on multiple hard disks, but in this case I errantly had some data (of marginal value) on this file system. At this point, the data is not worth enough for me to send the drive out for data recovery, but it's worth enough to

couple questions about supported UPSes and politics of purchase
a customer of mine needs a UPS capable of supporting a small server in his office. Obviously, nut is a good thing for him for clean shutdown etc. especially with the crappy quality power in his office condo. I wanted to purchase an MGE UPS but it looks like they purchased APC and are now flogging that product line. Now, I've never been happy with APC. I have an APC 3000 (sans
