I've been assigned the task to make a fileserver with the following

How to correct set permissions only for a group users access the share folder
Rowland,
The first two images are from the "storage" folder, that is the main
folder, which I configured via "computer management".

The last two are related to the CTI group.
Tell me what you need to test, I do! :D

Linux fs ACL ignored for Samba4 share in Windows?
This command lists all directories in iss_num. However the . (iss_num
itself) has drwxrwxr-x
Now for the incriminating file example that shows abnormal ACL in
Windows: the file resides in iss_num/am/uz and has -rwxrwxrwx
So there is no + in listing for share directory nor for files in the
directory structure.

problems with winCVS
hi everybody,
we have problems using wincvs with a cvsroot on a samba-server. we
think that the problem is the renaming of files where the cvs user does
not have write-permisson on:
this is our configuration:
fileserver on a irix6.5 running samba 1.9.18p8
having a share on / named 'coder'.
win95 box, running wincvs, setting cvsroot something like

Are those file and folder ACLs to be expected?
Greetings Rowland.
The NAS we have does not allow SSH connections, only a web interface for
management and therefore I'm unable to provide the conf file.
The group "users" is actually named "artists" and it's created by me. I
needed a group with a simpler name.
The version of Samba is 4.10.4.
Let me know if there's anything else I can provide and could be of help.

Fix sharing ACL
I removed the vestments of the DC user.map.
I had already trying to reset the permissions, following this session:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Shares_with_Windows_ACLs#Troubleshooting
When I try to reset the permissions as shown in the bottom page of the ACL Windows page, nothing happens.

Unable to set up home share correctly
Hello Rowland,
thank you for your swift reply. I made the modifications you suggested,
which unfortunately did not better the situation. No change as to the
"Creator Owner" rights and the Administrator account still shown as
locked. Also, I couldn't spot any suspicious messages in the Samba
logfiles besides maybe

Unable to set up home share correctly
Hi everyone,
after some struggling I have finally set up a Samba AD DC and a file
server more or less successfully. Unfortunately I am failing at one of
the last steps: the configuration of the home share, where I can't set
the permissions correctly which, as a consequence, seems to prevent the
creation of the users' folders on the home share
I am using the standard Samba packages on

Hi there.
For some reason I am getting permission denied errors on a new samba server.
I can add machines to the domain, I can login with any user id's and so on
as well. But when I try connecting to a public share, or the users home
directory, I get a user denied error.

Modify permission not available unless group permissions are set to write.
I've been wrestling with a problem on newer versions of samba with a
configuration that "used" to work in samba 3.0.33 (RedHat Enterpise 5
packages) This maybe due to changes in the may samba maps NT permissions,
but i'm not sure so I thought I would ask.
I have a samba 3.3.8 (RedHat Enterprise 5.5 Samba3x packages) and samba
3.4.4 (Redhat Enterprise 6 beta packages)

samba 4.1 roaming profiles
I'm configuring a new samba 4.1 server with NT4 style domain. I've copied
most of the configuration from our working 3.6 server, making some changes
as needed for the newer samba version. So far, I have been unable to get
roaming profiles to work. It seems like the users cannot write in the
profiles directory, but I don't see why not.
Here is the relevant part of smb.cond

samba 4.1 roaming profiles
Dear Mark,
It looks like you are trying to do the same as I did. Did you read the
thread I had some days ago with subject "How to copy roaming profiles to
new server ? ("Group policy client service failed. The logon access is
denied")" ?
This could help you.
Other suggestions :
Not sure if [profiles.V2] is still required but maybe you should try to
add it ?
