Win XP Pro / Linux PDC
Hi all, I'm trying to configure Samba as a PDC. I'm running Debian Woody, hence Samba version 3.0.0final-1. We have no Windows servers anywhere on the network (yay!). I have done an smbpasswd for root, and add machine script is setup (see attached smb.conf). From the XP Pro workstation, when I fill in the domain name, log in as root, and click ok, I eventually get: "The following

Samba and LDAP: Trouble adding Win XP machines to the domain
Hi all, I am doing some research on Samba+OpenLDAP (+DHCP+DNS) with the intention of getting rid of the Micro$oft licenses necessary to maintain the Server products from such company. One of the aims I have is to demonstrate other people in my company that an open source alternative can work as well as (or even better than) a propietary solution. At the moment, I am getting desperated trying to

Roaming profiles problems Samba 3.0.2a / Win XP Pro/Win2K
Hi guys, I'm experiencing seemingly random problems using roaming profiles with Samba 3.0.2 on Debian Woody and clients being Win XP Pro and Win2K (all of them running the latest service packs and critical updates and so forth). Sometimes when one of the machines tires to login the server profile can't be found. The error Windows comes up with is "Network name cannot be found."

Win Xp logon issues
When I type the user name and password to logon onto our network (samba is the pdc) it takes a long time to login. How can I go about speeding this up? Is it a Win Xp issue or do I need to tweak samba? Also, when I login in to an XP machine I get a script (looks like some sort of logon script) that shows up in notepad on the desktop and stays there until I close it. What is this and how can I

Win XP can't join Domain with 3.0.4 and OpenLDAP
I have a samba server setup as a PDC and a LDAP back-end. When I try to join the domain I receive a "Permission Denied" error. From the best of my knowledge it appears that the problem is the authentication for the administrator being able to join a Workstation to the Domain. The administrator is set up in the "Domain Admins" group (512) and the group is mapped to the root
