[site] mog
so becky said mog is out, i remeber seeing it about a year ago on craigslist but didnt apply since it sounded like a last.fm ripoff and why waste time reinventing a wheel?..anyways, im wondering if it performs ok for anyone? it keeps freezing up on my trying to edit the page. sometimes a response comes back after about 10 seconds. im only guessing it runs rails, based on the gratuitous use of

Partial Function Application
Hi. I would like to partially apply a function to a list of arguments, and I don't know how to do this in R, without perhaps writing default values to the formals() of my function, or writing to the environment object of a function. For context, my definition of partially apply is: "fix some of the arguments, leaving the others as variables, return a new function that takes the un-fixed

How to save graphics in portable way in batch mode?
Hi all, What is the right portable way to save graphics in batch mode? Remarks: 1. Problem is STFWed and RTFMed. In particular a short note about png() is found in R-FAQ. In fact, there were stated that png() is not reliable under Linux in batch mode. 2. savePlot under windows is quite convenient, but not supplied under Linux. 3. pdf() + postscript() < savePlot()

"NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE"
Hi everyone, I'm using the online HOWTO manual in the "Quick Start" reference to try and get a basic domain controller going. So I set up smb.conf, and testparm checked out okay, I've started nmbd and smbd, but when I try to to run [root@localhost samba]#smbclient -L <username> -U<username>%<password> session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE <-- I get

getting rank order
I'm doing a study where people place a deck of cards in a certain order. It's sufficient to assume that their colors & each has a number (it's actually about attributes of hobbies). I'd like to look for patterns in how they've arranged the deck. For each subject I have a list like 3,5,2,4,1, indicating that (s)he chose 3 first, then 5, then 2. . . . I think what I first

increasing space available for labels
I've got a graph with really long labels. I've tried decreasing the font size, but they're still getting truncated. I've RTFMed & it seems that mgp should have something to do with this, but I can't make it work. I need about 2-3x as much space for labels as is available by default (or on the example below). boxplot(split(ranks,c(1:25)), names=items, horizontal=F)

Anyone seen any articles on AJAX autocompleting mulitple...
I don''t even know what its called really, so its hard to search for. Here''s an example. They do this on MOG.com: There''s one text field visible. You type in a band name. Another text field appears. It auto completes album names based on the band name you chose in the first field. What is this type of thing called? Where is some source code I could look at? any

Ogg metadata stream embedding
Another spin-off discussion. The scheme used on <http://wiki.xiph.org/index.php/Metadata> was to packetize XML (split it up into packets at the root level, each of which was self contained (the terminology has temporarily abandoned me), and have the bos packet as the opening <?xml &c. stanza, the eos a </xml>. It is probably more sensible to include a magic number identifying

Using smbmount in a script - no return value
I'm trying to periodically mount an XP share on my linux box, and I've noticed that smbmount doesn't return a value so I can't test for success in my shell script: #!/bin/bash smbmount //NonsenseShare /bad/mnt/point || echo "error with smbmount" In this case smbmount silently fails. I searched the archives and found a couple of messages about smbmount demonizing

Digium vs. Sangoma
I don't mean to be a troll in any way shape or form. I was on IRC last night and I observed the following convo. below. What do you guys make of it ? [02:14] <bkw__> Let me tell you how chidlish digium and Mark Spencer is. I walk into a restaurant with them all here at Astricon wearing my sangoma shirt and he asked me to leave. R combining many vectors of predictable name into one date frame
G'day R (power) users, I have a many vectors, called: ib1 ib2 ib3 ... ib100 and I would like them in one data frame (df) such that: > df ib1 ib2 ib3 ib4 ..... ib100 x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x I have attempted: hold.list <- list(objects(pattern="ib")) df <- data.frame(hold.list) but that

plotting single variables common to multiple data frames
Hello all, I have files (see attached) which are created daily. I want to load about a weeks worth of them (7 daily files) and plot a weeks worth of one variable together. So one variable name is delta_D_H. I would like to plot this variable from all 7 days on one plot. I'm having trouble figure out how to do this. I've loaded them all up using this time=Sys.time() t1<-

lag orders with ADF.test
Hello! I do not understand what is meant by: "aic" and "bic" follow a top-down strategy based on the Akaike's and Schwarz's information criteria in the datails to the ADF.test function. What does a "top-down strategy" mean? Probably the respective criterion is minimized and the mode vector contains the lag orders at which the criterion attains it

subset bug?
I ran into a problem with "subset" while working at home that I am not sure is a bug or not. I defined a custom function to take a data frame of tree positions, sizes, and types (containing the columns TRT, COMP, PLOT, X, Y, DBH and CON) and wanted to make a stem map of the plot using different symbols and colors to represent the different types of tree stems. I copied a bit of the

implicit loop for nested list
I would use replicate() to do an operation with random numbers repeatedly: ``` mysim <- replicate(10, { two.mat <- matrix(rnorm(4), 2, 2) four.mat <- matrix(rnorm(16), 4, 4) list(two.mat = two.mat, four.mat = four.mat) }) ``` which should give you a matrix-list. You can slice this matrix-list just like normal, then cbind it in one step: ``` two.mat <-
