new IP on an iface and nmb's behaviour
hi everyone, I observe a peculiar "behaviour" behaviour of nmb, peculiar to me at least, could be that "this is how it works", thus asking. If I add an IP on the iface that nmb is already operating then I see such a message: Samba name server GOER is now a local master browser for workgroup PRIV_NET on subnet 192.168.2.204 204 is that new IP, but then windows boxes do

Smbclient fails to connect
Hi, I've recently upgrade to Samba 1.9.17p1 from 1.9.16p11 (for Solaris 2.5), but have now found that smbclient fails to connect to user shares on win95 machines. I've tried the same login account from a win95 account and am able to mount shares from other win 95 machines. I've also tried running the old smbclient binary with the new smbd & nmbd daemons, and that lets me log

SMBD - NMBD problem
Hi guys, I realy need your help. It looks like SMBD doesn't want to talk with NMBD, but why? When I run the command: nmblookup torpc8 The result is: querying torpc8 on 10.5.255.255 Got a positive name query response from 10.5.2.27 ( 10.5.2.27 ) 10.5.2.27 torpc8<00> That is correct. When I run the command: smbclient -NL torpc8 The result is: resolve_wins: Attempting wins lookup for

problems trusting a w2003 domain server from samba 3
I have samba 3 PDC (SAMBA domain with hostname "pevpdc") on CentOS 3.7 (package is named samba-3.0.9-1.3E.7) and I have a w2k3 sp1 domain (W2003 domain with hostname "mailserver"). Multiple Instancies of Samba on a single System
Hi out there, i intend to run multiple Instancies of Samba on a single, multi-homed, server, with each instance bound to a specific (logical) interface. If this works, it would be fine to me. Mainly for administrative Reasons. (You won't believe, but from time to time it becomes necessary to restart some services, but restarting the entire server is a real mess) Well here my

Debian has already made available its own EDU distribution. It's time for CentOS to "step up," and offer its own service. Windows and MACs have dominated the education market far too long. makefile and path questions
Hi! This morning, I found a system that was still running an ancient samba. I immediately upgraded it to samba 1.9.18p1 and had the opportunity to fiddle with the make file after not doing this for a couple of months. The default makefile sorts the files like this: BINDIR (/usr/local/samba/bin) smbpasswd smbrun smbclient testparm testprns smbrun smbstatus smbpasswd
