dual boot linux/winxp, winbind
We have a bunch of dual-boot boxes (linux/winxp). I'd like to be able
to use winbind (against ads) for user authentication on the linux side,
but it appears samba has to join the AD too. Upon joining the AD under
linux/samba, it makes the windows side of things stop working (machine
account has been modified).
In the past, when using an NT4 domain, I was able to tell samba to use a

RFI: Information for Centos 4 unsupported kernels
Hi,
this may sound stupid, but;
- I'd like to install unsupported x86/i386 smp kernel because I need
some support (for eg. dual booting for r/w files for winXP) etc.
I'm now using 4.3 latest smp kernel. (I've tested that x86 still runs
better than x86_64 like I was told in January. Thanks for the advice.)
Questions:
Is there any documentation for how to install unsupported smp

Win XP Pro, Samba 2.2.5, Sybase ASA and Linux 2.2.19
Greetings, all!
Samba has served me well these past 4 years. Now I have encountered problems. I
hope somebody can give me some insight:

512 Meg ECC RAM (never touch the swap partitions!)
Dual 9 gig Ultra-SCSI drives

ntlm_auth and PEAP machine authentication

the question is discussed, whether ntlm_auth can be used for machine
authentication against a Win2003/AD.
and the conclusion seems to be, that it is not really clear:

Logging in via Linux machine to Windows Domain
Hi List -
I have a friend that runs a Windows domain with Active Directory and is
setting up some new laptops with Redhat. He wants to automate installs,
etc. on these laptops as he would on a Windows machine.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this - and also if anyone
knows of a good tutorial for joining a Linux machine to a Windows domain.
I've heard that it is possible.

Problems using multiple Samba servers in a Win2003 AD domain
I've been at this for days, and making no headway. It's very
discouraging. I have a Win2003 domain, that has the Services for Unix
extensions installed. I am trying to have multiple Samba servers as
domain members. (in my case, one desktop sharing files, and one laptop,
accessing the shares). And at the moment, it doesn't (fully) work.
Each Samba server can see shares from the other.

unable to join AD domain: Failed to parse cldap reply
I have a suse 10.2 system, that runs the latest samba version, Suse
provides for 10.2: 3.0.23d-6
After a long time I had to join that system to an AD domain.
Unfortunately that did not work as expected.
net ads join -U DE7B07K0@WW901.MYDOM.NET -d4
asks for a password, but then it fails with:

dual boot box: winxp & centos 5: impossible to restorewinxp? -- antair restored
Have you disconnected all your usb hardware before trying the repair? I've repaired my box more times than I can count and the only time I've seen lots of hdd activity is when I had some weird hardware attached.

SOLVED: Re: Dual boot box: WinXP & CentOS 5: Impossible to restore WinXP?
Some thoughts, for anyone faced with this type of problem on a dual
boot box in the future: My first thought was to try to Rescue the
WinXP Spanish language installation that came on the Dell Dimension
2400, out of the Dell factory. Later, I decided to wipe the entire
drive, since I now have a WinXP English language Restore CD and I
wanted to redo CentOS5, so I would have room to experiment with

Nb of copies don't appear in page_log file
Hi
I am currently using Samba 3.0.11 and Cups 1.1.23 with Windows
PostScript drivers and manufacturer PPDs on WinXP clients.
When I print multiples copies of a document from a Windows XP box, the
number of copies appearing in the Cups "page_log" file always takes the
"1" value but the printer prints the correct number of copies. When I do
the same on Linux (with the lpr

Agent 3.3 on Linux?
I dual boot WinXP and Fedora Linux and would like to run Agent 3.3 when
I boot to Fedora. Has anyone successfully installed WINE (codeweavers?)
on Linux and gotten the current Agent to function? What has your
experience been? What problems have you encountered?
I've seen very little discussion in the newsgroup. The web page that
Mark Prince pointed to a few years ago is no longer active:

AD replication with samba4
googling around I found some interesting information about samba4.
It is said, samba4 shall have an ldap server of its own, not openldap.
Is this correct? If so, could this server fully participate in AD
replication?
Does a timeframe exist, within which samba4 shall arrive?
Thanks

Samba4 as an additional Domain Controller in existing Windows 2016 AD
Hi David
Go to the samba wiki on https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Main_Page,
search for "2016", klick on FAQ, scroll down a bit.
There it says:

dual boot w/WinXP
Hi folks,
I've been asked advice in an area that I'm not well versed and am hoping
for some help.
Having read a recent thread where booting to anaconda's kickstart wiped
a partition table unexpectedly (to the user...it did what it was
configured to do), I'm following the 'measure twice, cut once' rule and
asking if this is possible and if so, what is best practice:

Dual boot box: WinXP & CentOS 5: Impossible torestoreWinXP?
I wouldn't necessarily wipe the whole HD, just the windows partition.
You could also use Xen in CentOS 5 for your Windows virtualization. I'd wait for 5.1 though which will be more refined then version 5.
I've been thinking of setting up a Xen machine of my own with a Windows HVM and a couple of Linux PVMs with their GUIs/consoles pinned to different virtual consoles. It has always

Using WINE to install device drivers for Windows XP
23 Sep 2010
I have a dual boot using two separate hard disks. Win XP is installed on sda and Ubuntu 10.04 on sdb. I have installed WINE on sdb.
Can I use WINE to install a device driver for Win XP from sdb without starting Win XP?
When I try to start WinXP it gives a message about the lack of a suitable device driver for my NVIDIA video card then stops booting. I want to install a new driver

best practice for domain admins
Good one Norbert,
And this is exacly as im doing my software installs.
My collega finds it very annoying. :-)
I also added ( through GPO ) that, once your logged in the Domain, all software add/remove functions are disabled, even for Domain admins,
only "local - pc admins" can install software.
( use .\localInstallAdmin ) where "." is equal to the pc name.
That is
