Prints ok, but says "Access denied, unable to connect". win2k and samba 2.2.1a
I have a small Samba 2.2.1a plus Win2k workgroup. Samba is running on Redhat 7.2. There is a networked laserjet 5000 using a static IP which I can print to successfuly from the linux box, and from the win2k workstations via the queue on the linux box. The weird thing is that, on the win2k worksations, if I double click on the printer icon the status of the printer is reported as "Access

Printing Status - Access denied, unable to connect
Hi, I have Samba 2.2.3a setup on a RH Linux 2.4.18-10 box as a print server. It works fine, well kind of. The users can print their documents but on their end the get the good old "Access Denied, unable to connect" error. It does not seem to have any effect on the actual printing but its sucks not being able to cancel a job. Anyone know if it is possible to not get this error and

printing fails for SPOOLSS OpenPrinterEx request
Hi, I have a problem with my printing setup of a windows XP client with a samba server. The windows driver seems to use different ways of smb/printer communication for printing in normal/duplex mode and for printing brochures. The latter failes silently. normal/duplex printing uses: SMB Open Print File Request brochure printing starts with: SPOOLSS OpenPrinterEx request I recorded the network

smbd uses 10 to 15% CPU w/Vista client
For quite awhile I've noticed that smbd uses 10-15% of my CPU (Pentium 4) when nothing visible is going on. I have a couple of laptops on my home network, and some experiments showing that powering on the Vista laptop (other is OSX) is sufficient to raise useage from 0 to 10-15%. The screen is locked, although 2 user accounts are logged in. Wireshark seems to show a lot of chatter,

Can't browse \Windows from Linux
I have Samba working nicely on my network, except that there are a few folders, including \Windows, on the XP machine that I can't browse from Linux. I can see and enter the folders, but the contents are null. What is preventing me from getting to these folders? -- Jeffrey Barish

Automounting Windows XP share on Linux
I have /etc/auto.master and /etc/auto.smb such that ls /smb/<name of system> works for the two Win98 machines on my network (the machines get automatically mounted and the directory contains "C"). When I try the same command on the Windows XP machine, I get No such file or directory The auto.smb file that came with my OS (Libranet 3) uses smbclient to get a list of

3.0.14 -> 3.0.20a: ldap errors, unable to authenticate or browse
Hello, I was using version 3.0.14 and upgraded to 3.0.20a. I did not change my config, however, I am seeing some serious problems now, and I am not sure what to do about it. I noticed there were a large number of changes between these two versions. I looked at the changes briefly, but there are just so many. This samba server is a domain memmber, on an ADS domain with a win 2003 enterprise

Interaction plots as lines or bars?
Dear r-helpers, An editor has suggested that I use bar plots to capture an interaction of two 2-level factors and an interaction of a 2 by 3 factorial experiment. (It would seem that there's a fear that someone might try to interpolate between, e.g., 'male' and 'female'.) In general it seems to me that an interaction plot with lines is easier to read, and not likely

windows print migrator + "add printer command"
Hi all. I was wondering if anyone had a successful exampel of using the "add printer command" with cups so that the windows print migrator could be utilised. Seeing as Jerry as spent time on this it would be a shame not to know how to use it. ;-) I'm guessing that it would be along the lines of: add printer command = lpadmin option1 option2 && cupsaddsmb option1 but

APW Permissions Issue
SuSE 8.2 with Samba 2.2.7a, smb.conf is at end. (Hostname=outside) This box runs VMware with a Windows 2000 client configured as a workgroup member (hostname=RNOME-W2K). I created a Linux user account for the W2K machine, edited etc/passwd to add a "$" at the end of the username for the machine, and added the machine account and my user account to the Linux ntadmin group. I then ran

Unified logons with winbind and tdbsam backend
I am trying to setup unified logons to my VPN users. My goal is to get rid of chap.secrets file and use winbind to authenticate against tdbsam password backend located in the PDC (Fedora Core 1) running with Samba 3.0.21pre1. I have tried with older Samba versions without success. Using winbind should allow password changes from the Windows XP Pro -client using CTRL+ALT+DEL. Smb.conf,

Documentation Licence question.
i can't find licence information for the following files: http://hostopia.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba3-HOWTO.pdf http://hostopia.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba3-ByExample.pdf As you see, they are two basic samba information sources, and I need to know if I can just print it and leave in computer lab for all who wish to avoid reading it from monitor. It is about 1300 pages total, so I need to make

WinY2k Access Denied on Printing
I have a Red Hat Linux release 7.1 (Seawolf) Samba 2.2.4 PDC and fileserver built with --with-ldapsam. The clients are either win9x or WinY2k. Authenitcation, etc... all works great. But print sharing is a real pain. Under 2.2.1a printing worked great, but our VOIP phone system wouldn't joint the domain until we upgraded to 2.2.4. Initial testing of 2.2.4 made it seem like everything

network design - taking advantage of samba+openldap
In the headquarter of my Institution we have some 300 windows PCs, distributed like this: domain1: 100 clients in a consolidated samba 3.0.5-2 domain (RH 9.0) domain2: 20 clients in an incipient samba 3.0.14a-2 domain (FC4) 80 clients to be joined to domain2 without domain: 150 clients beloging to some three workgroups We outsourced the deployment of a LDAP server and we are in the

winbind auth using ADS with domain trusts
In reading the documentation I havn't found anything that covers the use of winbindd when authenticating against one domain (lets call it 'A') while also allowing users from a domain trusted by A (lets call it 'B'). My linux box is a member server in domain A which is a new domain we are working on transitioning to. We are not renaming because 2k server doesn't have that

Slow eth0 Config
Folks, This is a strange problem, and I'm not sure this is the right place for it, so feel free point me to a better location. I'm running FC3 and Samba 3.0.14a. The problem is this: when I boot up my Linux box, and it gets to the point of turning on my NIC (eth0), where the PC used to turn it right on and continue, now there's an inordinately long delay in getting eth0 to

What is the preferred way to inherit permission on a pdc?
When you follow chapter 2 of SBE ( http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba3-ByExample/small.html ) you get a working PDC. However there is one problem: if you create a document in a shared folder only the owner can edit this document. Others in the same group can't edit the document and get a 'permission denied' error. Permission are arranged with groups, new files get the permission

Access denied when associating a driver with a printer
Hi, I'm trying to get point & print working against a 4.0.10 Samba server (using the sernet packages if that's relevant). I have the printer itself setup and I've uploaded the driver, but associating the uploaded driver with the printer causes Windows to give an error: "Printer settings could not be saved. Access is denied". I'm seeing the same symptoms on XP and

printer status says, "Access denied" from win2k
But it prints fine. In the printer window, under the status column, my samba printers read: Access denied, unable to connect Yet when I print to them they print fine. This is minor irritation, but I'd like to get it resolved. Does anyone have any suggestions?
