NTConfig.POL not working for Win 2000 (for XP working fine)?
I'm just exploring the Profile Editor, described on http://www.pcc-services.com/custom_poledit.html - and policies saved to NTConfig.pol file and copied to the netlogon share work great for Windows XP machines. However, with Windows 2000, they don't work at all. Winh XP machines - policies are applied. I see in Samba logs that the NTConfig.pol is copied from the server to the w2k

Consuming a web service created with Rails, ETL vs Rest?
Hello, I need to consume a web service of an App called RedMine created with Rails, in order to have a sort of "separate" interface (not the same as the app) for one of the departments (that interact with the app) to interact with it and generate some different reports based on the same data. I don''t know much about either (ETL and Rest), all I know is that ETL seems to

ugly fonts problem
I use wine from time to time, but I don't know how to deal with "ugly font problem". What I mean, fonts in Windows applications look really bad: http://wpkg.org/uglyfonts.png Is it possible to have "normal" fonts? If so, how? -- Tomek http://wpkg.org WPKG - software deployment and upgrades with Samba

[LLVMdev] TableGen and Greenspun
The TableGen language seems to be growing Lisp macros from two different directions. Che-Liang Chiou added a preprocessor with for loops, and David Greene added multidefs. It seems that some kind of macro facility is needed, perhaps we should discuss what it is supposed to look like? /jakob

what is the SID of the domain administrator?
Does the domain administrator SID always end with -1000? I.e., if the SID for the domain is: S-1-2-33-4444444444-555555555-6666666666 does this mean that the domain administrator's SID would be: S-1-2-33-4444444444-555555555-6666666666-1000 ? How can I get the SID number for any given user? -- Tomek http://wpkg.org WPKG - software deployment and upgrades with Samba

two way synchronization with rsync?
I have two offices in one city; employees work in both of them (once in office A, the next or an hour later in office B etc.). They would like to have the same profile (i.e., if they log off in office A, they would like to have their documents, Desktop, emails etc. in the profile in the office B when they arrive there an hour later). Is it possible with rsync to construct such a "two way

[LLVMdev] proposal: add macro expansion of for-loop to TableGen
Hi folks, TableGen provides sufficiently rich syntax for expressing target instruction set. Nevertheless, when I wrote the PTX backend, I observed that some redundancy in TableGen can be further eliminated through macro expansion of for-loops. The semantics of a for-loop is expanding the for-loop body, and so it is equivalent to manually unroll the loop (see example #1). I believe the for-loop

how do you manage printers on workstations?
How do you manage printers on Windows workstations? What I mean, suppose you have many classrooms, different printers (which sometimes change) in these classroms - how do you manage which workstation (or a group of them) will use which printer? So far I've been using WPKG for that - as I described here: http://wpkg.org/wiki/index.php/Printer_configuration But somehow I feel it

Windows-style quota / "profile size too big" warning?
With Windows domain controllers with when the profile size is too big (and there are limits appled), when the user logs out, he/she gets a warning, and a list of files, sorted from the biggest, to the smallest. To get an idea how it looks like, here's a screenshot: http://www.windowsitpro.com/Files/5057/Screen_03.gif http://www.windowsitpro.com/Windows/Article/ArticleID/5057/5057.html Is

restrict share access to user@IP only
I would like to restrict a share access for users and allow only share browsing for a valid user which connects from a certain IP. So for example, I would like to allow "joe" to connect to [test] only from 192.168.1.2. If Joe connects from 192.168.1.3, he should be denied access. Any ideas how can I do this? -- Tomek WPKG - automated software distribution http://wpkg.org

[libhivex] Undefined behavior when accessing invalid (too small) registry hives
Hello all, I know that one of the original design goals of libhivex was to be resilient to corrupt, invalid, or malicious registry hives. I've encountered some undefined behavior in libhivex when attempting to open registry files that are too small. I'm not sure if this is a known issue per-se or not, so I figured I'd ask here on the mailing list before I jumped in and started adding

Importing Database into Rails App database?
I''m working on an app that uses info from a government database. For a variety of reasons (not the least of which is that their database is in MS Access), I can''t simply write a wrapper around the legacy database. Instead, we''re looking to have an "import" script in the Rails environment (it''s fine if it''s run from the server and through the

SVN/CVS-like share for Samba users?
I am looking for some solution, working with Samba preferably, which would allow multiple users to work on one document. This means that if a user makes a change to the document, a previous version of that document is saved somewhere else. For example, user A opens a document (rw - read/write, ro - read-only document): rw \\server\share\document.txt User makes some changes, and saves it to

"intelligent" rsync scripts?
I use rsync for backing up user data, profiles, important network shares etc. (from several locations over WAN). Overall it works flawlessly, as it transfers only changes, but sometimes there are some serious hiccups. Suppose this scenario, suppose it's 1 GB of files: user shares: /home/joe/data/file1 /file2 /... /file1000 Now the user

Samba and Kolab integration - HOWTO
Hi, I just wanted to let you know, that I've written a HOWTO on Samba and Kolab integration. In other words, I tried to explain, hopefully in an easy way, how to add Kolab groupware functionality to an existing Samba/OpenLDAP setup - so that both Samba and Kolab users would use the same credentials. You can find it on http://wpkg.org/kolab Of course feel free to comment :) -- Tomek

different logon path for different users - local profiles for a few users only - how?
I would like to have roaming profiles for one group of users (student1, student2), and local profiles for another group of users (Joe, Mary). Is it possible with Samba? From what I've tested, one can use either roaming profiles with a setting similar to the one below: logon path = \\%L\profiles\%G\%U Or local profiles, using the logon path empty: logon path = I have no clue how to

DM: samba 4.5 -> 4.8, guest access and machine account access troubles.
Hai Marco, Few pointers. First, time is in sync? I guess it is, but check it. Second. Guest access enabled on a domain joint PC ? If you really really want that, then enable user guest in the AD also. But better is avoiding Guest access completely. Join the domain, dont allow guest access and configure it correctly, best tip i can give, for the software deploying share. [wpkg] path
