Fwd: Re: Migrate NT domain 4 to samba
I tried "net lookup dc" and samba PDC did not show. The NT machine we have has been shut down and not functional anymore. Right now, we only have one linux box with gentoo running samba and we want it to be the PDC. share write access
Hi, I am testing share parameters, and have the following share definition: ## Section - [shareA] [shareA] path = /tmp/shareA writelist = user1 and do not understand why user1 cannot write files in the share when connected as user1. Unix permissions for the share files are rw for everyone, and the share directory has wide-open permissions. Samba version is 3.0.20b-3.4-SUSE.

Share Access
Could someone help me understand if what I'm seeing with share access is correct? On my samba domain I have two users (user1 and user2) and one share; the share has attribute "writelist = user1". On a linux machine I: mount the share with "mount -t cifs -o username=user1" successfully open a file in the share for writing with the perl "open" function

ldapsam:trusted=yes
Hi, I am implementing a series of automated regressions tests for samba3. I wish to incorporate the ldapsam:trusted=yes parameter into the testing, and initially had some problems getting smbd to start up and play well with clients. I have discovered that the problem (I am using smbldap tools, smbldap-populate in particular) is the existence of root and nobody users in both /etc/passwd and the

rsync stoped syncing
Hi, I want to keep the home-Directorys of 2 machines in sync. Therefor I start rsync every hour with cron. In the Beginning all worked fine, but now ... I searched, but can't see the problem. The home-directorys on the "master" change very often, but the changes are no longer replicated to the "slave". Both run Linux and rsync 2.5.5. The master calls (the long line may be

Fix to track-kameipv6 branch for socket.c
I ran into a problem where systems without DNS entries could not connect to the rsync server with the IPV6 patch applied. Here is a fix to the problem. Basically they were checking the list of IP addresses returned by getaddr even if getaddr failed. I just changed it so they only check the list of IP addresses if getaddr succeeds. Any comments on this please email me directly because I do not

vfs_shadow_copy2 with snapprefix & delimiter options
Hello all, I already successfully configured shadow copy service without a delimiter and regex. But as soon as I try to get this to work with regex, nothing shows up on the win client. My config looks like this: [global] shadow: localtime = yes shadow: sort = desc shadow: format = _%FT%T shadow: delimiter = _ shadow: snapprefix = ^\(monthly\)\{0,1\}\(weekly\)\{0,1\}\(daily\)\{0,1\}$

Couldn't open status file /var/adm/slh/samba/locks/STATUS..LC K
Gunnar, Check (ll -d dirname) to make sure that there is at least x permission for everyone in each directory down the /var/adm/slh/samba/locks path; also, does the STATUS..LCK file exist in the named directory, and if so what are the permissions on it? Hope this helps, Don -----Original Message----- From: Bakken, Gunnar [mailto:bakkengj@mail.slh.wisc.edu] Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2001 6:08 PM

Cannot delete (empty) folder from Mac client
Hello. A Mac client of mine has a problem deleting an empty folder from the root of a Samba 4.12 server share, reporting a permission issue; however, the more I look at it, the more I am convinced it should be able to delete it. smb.conf: > [global] > workgroup=XXXXXXXX > realm=XXXXXXXX.local > interfaces=em0 > hosts allow=192.168.XXX. 10.0.XXX.2

mounting win2003 server shares fails
I emailed about this before but didn't get any response. I am desperate. I can mount the share of any computer in the domain. XP (even with sp2), 2000, etc... everything works no problem. When I try to mount a share on a win2003 server, the command completes successfully, but when I try to view the folder, it is not showing. I have tried several variations of commands: mount -t smbfs -o

Slow Samba
I am running a Snap 4200 fileserver, which is a network appliance that uses Samba to share files on a windows network. I've been experiencing slow performance on the Snap. The issue started suddenly 5 to 6 weeks ago, so I don't think it's a performance-related problem. I SSHed into the unit and noticed some odd errors in the samba event logs. They look something like this:
