Dovecot stable slow
A few days ago I installed dovecot stable to replace uw-imap. The
install went well and all boxes were converted ok. When accessing the
new imap server though, certain operations seem much slower, in
particular, moving mail between boxes is very slow, and I have received
several complaints from users that the mail server has slowed down. I
can't figure out what the slow point is as maildir

Win2K issues with printers and profiles
I have had the following problems both with the stock samba 2.2 server
that comes with RedHat 9 and several releases of samba 3.0, currently
it's at 3.0.14a.
When logging on to Windows 2000 computers using the samba server as an
NT domain controller, certain profiles seem to get permission errors and
windows just sticks you with a temporary profile that changes everytime
you log on. It seems

On the fly Machine accounts
I have been trying for 2 months to get my samba server to add machine
accounts 'on the fly"
I have added both of these to my smb.conf
add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 100 -s /bin/false -M %u
add machine script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 102 -s /bin/false
Neither of these seems to do anything.
I have around 250 computers to add, so adding the machine

Problem running SSH on IBM PPC440 processor, help appreciated
Hi,
Sorry to bother you on this mailing list, however I tried everything else and I am desperate to get this running. Please send me any hints you can think of.
I have installed openssh-3.7.1p2 on a ppc target and trying to connect to an sshd running on a redhat 9 with openssh-3.5p1. I keep getting the error "Disconnecting: Corrupted check bytes on input" no matter what I tried. I

toll access - account code
Our telco has setup toll access account codes for outgoing calls. I would
like to include these account codes in the dialplan for certain extensions
(fax lines, modems) so that they are not prompted for the 4 digit code when
making a toll call. I have played around with the 'w' command with ZAP
channels, commas, and DISA, all with no success. I see a lot of examples of

ntlm_auth fails to find PDC on same computer
I am trying to get ntlm_auth working for Authentication against the
local Samba PDC which is running on the same computer. I am using samba
3.0.28a on Ubuntu 8.04.1. smbd, nmbd, and winbindd are running and
Windows clients have no trouble logging into the domain. Running
ntlm_auth --username=myusername reports No logon servers. I ran the
command as root and according to strace, it looks like

User lost domain admin privileges
Recently, something broke in Samba, my user, lorenl, is no longer an
Administrator on any local workstations. I am the only administrator
for this network, and there's nothing I've done related to any Samba
configuration changes recently. On all workstations, I've checks that
DOMAIN\Domain Admins is listed in the Administrators group. I ran this

Samba LDAP Tools
I am looking for some good tools to manage Samba users in LDAP. It
looks like there are several good tools mentioned on the Samba Wiki, but
I am concerned mostly with the proper addition of new users to LDAP, in
particular, generating unique SIDs. smbldap-useradd, for example,
generates the SIDs for primary user and group based off of a simple
formula based on the UID and GID, whereas Samba

Passive OS fingerprinting and conditional firewalling
Hi all,
there''s an interesting citaton on kerneltrap.org, mentioning the addition of
passive OS fingerprinting to the OpenBSD firewall
(http://www.kerneltrap.org/node/view/770 for those interested)
This new feature enables the possibility of triggering customized firewall
rules according to the (detected) incoming OS, in a fully passive way.
I was wondering if the above would be

Q: firewalling in Dom0 (bonding also)
Hi,
the docs suggest to use firewalling in Dom0. I have a question:
Dom0 sees al the interfaces, not just those considered its "own" ones. So should I
set up firewalling to use/protect only Dom0''s own interfaces, leaving individual
firewalls to DomUs, or should I set up firewalling on the physical interfaces
(peth*)?
To make things a bit worse I'' using bonding,

Firewalling domU
Hello,
I think I saw this somewhere but cannot find it with google now.
How to setup anti-spoofing firewall rules in dom0 so that domU could not change IP and try to get spoof other traffic?
I could use physdev module of iptables but how to determine which vif belongs to which domU without too much scripting? Or parsing "xm list" and matching with some configuration file (like:

Firewalling outbound connections...
Hi,
would anyone know a soft to firewall outbound connections (applications phoning home, etc...).
It would detect an unknown (to him) app that tries to connect to the outside world and it would popup a allow/deny request...AppArmor might be a bit overkill...
Anyone have any experience with Systrace, TuxGuardian or Zorp GPL...?
Thx,

Stealth firewalling
Hi.
Is it possible to set up a stealth firewall with 2.4.3 + iptables? I
know there are patches for 2.2.x kernel (to enable bridge for using
ipchains). Does 2.4.x directly support it?
TIA.

So I did the homework and wrote one:

Still Confused about Firewalling
Hi All,
Sorry, I am still confused about implementing a firewall without
having my ISP static route all of my traffic to my public IP's to a
single public IP.
So before when I have done this for work all traffic has been
statically routed.
Now I have a comcast modem and it is 'pass through' so traffic for all
my 13 IP's is allowed and I have to decide what to do.
So I

Firewalling certain IP ranges
Hi,
I have a linux router which is connected to a local network and the internet (eth0 and eth1). My
local network (eth0) consists of two IP ranges, which are assigned by a DHCP server on my router -
10.0.0.2-10.0.0.19 for trusted clients (MAC addresses are known) and 10.0.0.20-10.0.0.254 for
untrusted clients (MAC addresses are not known). These two ranges share the same physical network,
