Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility - mini-pci wireless card 1390
Is there any way I can find a driver and/or get the above wireless card
working in CentOS 5 on my Dell laptop (Inspiron 1501). I've installed
ipw2200 from RPMForge, but it now appears that this won't work because
the card is not an Intel PRO/Wireless card. Dell seem to support only MS
Windows Vista now so I don't think there's much chance of getting a
driver from them - so am I on

Wondering about CentOS 5.1 functionality
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi All,
I'm giving serious thought to loading 5.1 on my Inspiron 1501 laptop,
but I'm wondering about certain hardware support such as the following:
- - Broadcom Wireless Adapter - 1390 Wlan (bcm43xx)
- - USB (Pny Memory Stick - everytime on previous version CentOS has eaten
the damned things)
- - pptp vpn client(s)
Any comments?
thanks,

Which external WiFi device for laptop running CentOS 5.3?
Have decided to give up on the embedded Broadcom 4312 wireless device in
my son's Dell laptop. I get WEP open authentication to work, but
nothing else. I was about to dump the bcm43xx kernel module and the
bcm43xx-microcode5.fw firmware and work with the newer b43 module and
associated firmware. However, he claims that at school, he has always
had intermittent problems with wireless under

Problems with Broadcom 4312 wireless
I'm migrating my son's Dell laptop from Vista to CentOS 5.3. He came
back from each of his first two years of college loaded with virii and
trojans. This year he said "Dad, can you give me Linux?"
5.3 went onto the laptop easily and after doing some research, I applied
the guidance for getting multimedia working and got the nvidia driver
loaded. That works great.

Need Broadcom 4311 firmware for CentOS 5
Any hope of getting my laptop's Broadcom BCM94311 wireless running
on CentOS 5? I find lots of references to using fwcutter to get
the needed firmware from Windows drivers, but there's a Catch-22:
Version of fwcutter that generate files for the bcm43xx driver
in CentOS 5 don't recognize the md5sum of any currently
available Windows driver.
Newer versions of fwcutter

bcm43xx CentOS5
Hi there,
i am looking for a bit of advice on how to proceed with a wee problem
that i am having.
I have a BCM4306 pcmcia card (one of the later revisions) that i use
to connect to my wpa2 wireless network.
This is running on an old Dell Latitude (circa 1999).
I used to use fedora (7,8 and then 9) on this but 2.6.23 and 2.6.25
stopped populating various bits of /proc/acpi with the relevant

Networking issue (after latest 5.1 update?)
I'm not *entirely* sure but this began happening at about the time I
installed the latest kernel updates for CentOS 5.1
(kernel-2.6.18-53.1.6.el5.i686.rpm from January 24). Shortly before
that I changed the encryption on my wireless router and switched from
ndiswrapper back to the standard bcm43xx driver, but I'm pretty sure
the network was OK before that update for the simple reason that

ipw220 wireless firmware for CentOS 5
OK, I've downloaded and unzipped the firmware files in
ipw2200-fw-3.0.tgz - so I have 4 files: ipw2200-bss.fw, ipw2200-ibss.fw,
ipw2200-sniffer.fw and LICENSE.ipw2200-fw, all of which I've placed in
the /lib/firmware directory. Unfortunately, the instructions in
README.ipw2200 and INSTALL are not clear as to what to do next. I'm
using CentOS 5 on my (Dell) laptop so setting-up wireless

Can't get ipw2200 to work in CentOS 5 on Dell laptop
I've installed ipw2200-firmware-3.0-3.nodist.rf from RPMForge using yum OK.
I've loaded the ipw modules with /sbin/modprobe ipw2200 and then
/sbin/lsmod | grep ipw which gives:
ipw2200 136873 0
ieee80211 33417 1 ipw2200
However, when I run system-config-network I don't see Intel Coporation
PRO/Wireless 2200BG (eth1) in the list of adapters.

Dell HSPA 5530 - Built-in 3G - Not detected
Hi all,
I have been trying to get CentOS 5.5 running on my Laptop for a while now.
I am currently running Fedora 13 for the only reason that my Dell Wireless
HSPA 5530 built-in 3G Mobile Device is working.
I have tried loading the bcm43xx modules after reading several posts on
Google but not able to get this working at all.
I have run CentOS on my servers for a while now and love it. Just this

Obtaining a newer Broadcomm (bcm43xx) driver for CentOS 5
I'm using CentOS 5 (w/all latest updates as of 2008-01-06) on an HP
laptop -- in fact, the exact laptop described here:

Ever since I switched from SHARED to OPEN authentication (and hence
from using ndiswrapper to the bcm43xx module, as explained on that
wiki page), I've been having packet loss and/or collision on the

Dear All,
I'm trying to configure wireless card on a Dell Vostro 1540.
I had a look at this site : http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless/Broadcom?action=show

CentOS 5 and Broadcom wireless
I've got CentOS 5 installed on my hp pavilion ze 5300 laptop and the
network configuration UI says my wireless NIC has been correctly
identified and assigned what appears to be the right Broadcom device
driver on eth1. However, the inteface doesn't come up.
Google doesn't find anything recent about using Linux with Broadcom
except for someone's passing remark that Ubuntu 7 beta

CentOS on Dell Inspiron 640m laptop
I ordered and just received today a new Dell Inspiron 640m laptop (it also goes by the name E1405).
Anyone tried installing CentOS on this laptop? It's the wireless drivers I'm most concerned about; it's got the Dell 1390 internal wireless card (not the Intel wireless).
Anyone have some feedback, on the wireless or any other issues, on running CentOS on this laptop?
Thanks

Wireless newtworking in CentOS 5
Installed CentOS 5 on my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, hoping that it will
be easier to set up wireless networking than it was in CentOS 4.4. But
still sooooo difficult to get it working, mainly because there doesn't
appear to be a driver pre-installed for this wireless card ((Dell
wireless 1390 Mini PCI network card 802.11b/g). Do I still have to use
ipw2200 and what is this anyway? - I really

Dell TrueMobile 1400 Wireless card
Has anyone had any luck with getting the Dell TrueMobile 1400 A/B/G
wireless card working under Linux? I have experimented with ndiswrapper,
i have had nothing but problems trying to get it to work. I was
wondering if anyone has found a native Linux driver for the card. It
uses a Broadcom 4309 chipset.

Traffic shaping an apartment building
Hi,
I live in a rural community where adsl and cable is not widely available. I
correctly have an option of using adsl or cable at my location. Ten miles
away my friends apartment building has no option of cable or adsl. I set-up
a wireless link between my friends apartment building and my house. It
works great for him and me and the adsl company doesn''t care because they

Wireless DELL M90 with CentOS 5.1
Hi,
I have a laptop DELL M90 with an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card.
After installed new rpm drivers (see below), my card is recognized and I can see my wireless acces point with (iwlist - iwconfig) but it's impossible to connect to it. It seem that I can't obtain an IP address. In the log message I have "dhclient : DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval )
