Finding the GID of AD groups on samba
Hi Folks: A couple weeks ago, the list helped me develop the way to find the UID of users on my AD system. At the time I did not think that it would be necessary to know the GID of the AD Groups, but I am hitting some snags where I need to change the group ownership of folders etc. I suspect that the necessary command is a variant of the getent command, but man getent has not yielded where I

Finding the UID of samba users
Hi Folks: I am in the process of moving all of our users over to our new Samba File server which runs FC3. In order to properly secure the home folders, I need to chown them to the UID of the individual user, and chgrp them to the domain users group. I know the GID for the domain users, so no problem there. Is there a way to find a list of the UID for all the users. I know that I can do it

Help with Domain Authentication
Good Morning Everyone: I am running into a problem here that is beginning to frustrate me very seriously. I am running a windows 2003 Active Directory Domain that has several Fedora Core 2 Servers in it. One of the servers is a file server, and another is a webserver, both of which run samba (what ever version a recent yum update would have updated FC2 to). I have a computer class that

Help Needed
Good Morning: I am having trouble with my samba server on FC3. For some reason I cannot get it to authenticate against the domain, In order for domain users to be able to access resources, it requires me to create samba users and input their windows password for it to work (which is terrible security practice). I have been fiddling around on a development server (which in now being rebuilt

applying complex functions by groups
Hi, I have a matrix that is indexed by groups and looks something like this: 1 1 2 1 2 1 . . . 2 1 1 2 1 2 2 NA 1 . . . 3 1 NA 3 2 NA etc. The first column is the group variable and I would like to apply categorical data imputation functions to the other two columns, doing so by groups. I have tried APPLY, BY and SPLIT, but have not had much luck getting it to work. I wonder if anyone has

NT machines can't see each other
I recently set up Samba on a sparc 2 running sun os 4.1.3. It's set up as the browse master. We have a few PC's running NT, 95, & 98. On the NT machines, only the unix box shows up in the network neigborhood. Win95 & 98 are a little weirder: some machines show up and others don't. Any ideas on where to start? I've read the browsing docs and everything looks correct.

FW: Help Please! - Copying files from Windows to Samba share loses connection
Aaron, Yes, I left the server string out intentionally because of how the mapped drive description showed in Windows. Could this be causing my problem? I was able to join this server to the domain and I could retrieive a list of users using the winfo command. Thanks! Question about a recent change to uidswap.c in the portability snapshot
A change was recently introduced into uidswap.c to cover the case where the user is root. The change is "&& pw->pw_uid != 0 &&". /* Try restoration of GID if changed (test clearing of saved gid) */ if (old_gid != pw->pw_gid && pw->pw_uid != 0 && (setgid(old_gid) != -1 || setegid(old_gid) != -1))

Recommended SAS or SAS RAID controllers for Xen on IBM xSeries 306m with PCI-X slot
Does anyone recommend any particular SAS controller, or should I use an Ultra-320 SCSI controller instead? My machine is an IBM xSeries 306m. It has a SAS controller provided on a daughter card, but it''s not supported in the 2.6.16 kernel, so I''m looking for a separate disk controller card that will work with my existing SAS disks. -- James Holmes Programmer/SysAdmin RTDS

Re-downloading mails after migrate server
Hi all... again. I have uploaded the new server to dovecot 2.0.12, and still having the same issue. I have even tried changing the hostname, and still the same. I have checked the site http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Migration at the "POP3 migration" section, and I can't see the problem. The UIDLs between hosts are still the same, and I am lost at what is making me download the mails

dtrace (1M) manpage/ docs seem incorrect re 32/64 bit
The dtrace(1M) manpage seems to be incorrect, it states: -32 | -64 The D compiler produces programs using the native data model of the operating system kernel. You can use the isainfo -b command to determine the current operating system data model. If the -32 option is specified, dtrace forces the D compiler to compile a D

Printing stops after upgrading to 3.0.8-2
Dear list subscribers, Recently I upgraded my samba version from 2.0.5 to 3.0.8-2. The setup I use is basically very simple: a W 98 box should be able to access some disk-shares and a printed, connected to a Linux box, running Debian's sarge distribution. Accessing the disks is no problem, but the printer can't be accessed any more. My log.smbd logfile shows lines suggesting
