Office2K & file overwriting problems
Using Office2K (Word & Excel) on NTWS 4.0 and samba 3.0.0 on Debian
Linux, kernel 2.4.21.
1. Run Excel and create a sheet. Save it to the Samba server. No problem.
2. Close the sheet and open a new one (File->New).
3. Try to save the new sheet over the first one and Excel gives the
error: "Cannot save the file. 'H:\test\Book1.xls' is not a valid file name."

Variable substitution bug in Samba 1.9.18p10 ?
While trying to debug the fact that printing works here
but the print queue isn't returned properly, I found the
following behaviour which might be a bug in Samba 1.9.18p10:
I have (among others) the following lines in smb.conf:
[printer1]
create mode = 0700
read only = yes
printable = yes
path = /var/spool/samba
printer name = %S
comment = Kyocera

unable to upload printer driver
Hi Achim,
thank you for your effort!
I did a couple of tests, from W8.1 with x64 driver which where rather old and therefore disignated for W7x64. But this went stale as well.
Therefore I'll give it a try by using a W7-WS for uploading the drivers.

exporting an FUSE base file system to windows
Hi,
What I wanted to do was to export an FUSE based filesystem mounted
on linux to a windows box using samba.
I can browse and navigate the fuse filesystem without problems
on the linux box. With smbd running I can even navigate the filesystem
using smbclient.
Unfortunately when I try to access the exported file system from WinNT
the mountpoint of the filesystem shows up as a zero size file

AW: Permissions problem with 3.0.8
We use LDAP backend and Linux 2.6.
It happens only --with-acl-support.
This 2 errors I found in the level 10 log when I try to copy a fresh copied
file a second time on itself (permissions of test file are -r-xrw----, user
and group match)
Maybe the attribute mapping goes another path with acl support?
3.0.7 works fine.

But editing the file invalidates signing.

unable to upload printer driver
Hello Franz,
Out of curisoity I tried to install the old Kyocera Universal drivers we
use since a few years on an other samba server (4.6.5).
Found the old version here
https://www.rz.uni-osnabrueck.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Campuscard/Drucken/Treiber/win8/KyoceraClassicUniversalDriversCertified130315.zip.
It also fails now and the OEMSETUP.INF file also contains an

W9x doesn't download printer drivers
My W9x clients cannot download printer driver from samba 3.0.2rc1 with
cups 1.1.17, while w2k clients do.
The W9x clients open the Add Printer Wizard, connect to print$ share,
request the ADOBEPS4.DRV file, but they stop at the beginning of the
download.
Permissions on print$\WINNT\0 directory are the same as print$\W32X86\2.
cupsaddsmb was successful.
I sniffed the packets while client was

Access Denied to shares in Lotus Notes and Outlook
Hi All,
I don't know if this is a samba problem or not, but if users want to add
files as an attachment
in Lotus Notes and MS Outlook, and these files reside on samba shares,
they get an "access denied" message.
This "access denied" message refers to the whole share not only a file.
Samba Server version is 3.0.4 on Sparc Solaris 8 acting as AD Member
Server (W2K DC).

When the attemp is made to browse the 3.0.4 share they get Access Denied

Can't follow DFS link
Hi,
I am using 3.0.22 on Ubuntu 6.06. I'm trying to setup a DFS root. Here
is the smb.conf share section:
[test]
path=/var/test
writable=yes
msdfs root=yes
The /var/test contains a single symlink:
$ ls -l /var/test
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2007-05-22 14:56 pdf -> msdfs:cladms004\pdf
On a Win2K client I can connect to \\cladms004\pdf successfully. I
can also access the test
