Samba printing
I have a Red Hat 9 Linux box running Samba
version:2.2.7a-8.9.0-security-rollup-fix and Hylafax acting as a fax
server. I print from my Windows XP machine to the Samba shared printer
hoping the file name would be passed to Hylafax to use as the outbound
phone number but Samba is submitting the job to Hylafax with a job name
like:
smbprn.000117.JrVPBv
Hylafax can't process the job since

Printing samba, cups and legacy 16 bit applications
hello everybody,
I have come to a dead end.
I have successfully configured cups and samba to print from windows with
automated drivers download.
It works perfectly, but for one little problem, most of the printing here in
my company are reports printed by the ERP software, which has been developed
by ouserlves some 12 years ago in (oohh sucks) Visual basic 3.
The problem is:

After almost every reboot, Samba printing is DOA under Solaris 2.6...
I just thought that I would put this out there and see if anyone else
sees this problem with Samba 1.9.18p4 (under Solaris 2.6).
It appears that after some reboots of Solaris, Samba printing is partly
dead. What I see in the logs are below, and what happens is that the
file to be printed is spooled to /var/spool/samba, like always, but
when the lpr command is issued it croaks. I've been

How do I get the @#$$% job name to show instead of smbprn.yada.ya da?
I'm tinkering with this mod to my smb.conf,
and can't get the actual filename to be
displayed in the printed job history.
It's adapted from one Joel put out on the list
last year. My impression is that it works for
everyone in the world but me....
All that ever shows up is smbprn.yada.yada...
in the printer's history of printed jobs.

Samba 2.2.4 + Win2K Printing Problem
Greetings, all:
I'm having trouble working out a printing problem
between my Samba box, and my Windows 2000 client.
Here's the background:
Network:
Home network with a Slackware 8 box running Samba, 1
Windows 2000 client, 1 Windows 98 client, and a LEAF
Project firewall providing Internet access. The Samba
server should only be available to local clients.

print spool file not created
Gentoo Linux, recently updated (emerge --sync ; emerge -u --deep world).
kernel 2.4.26. Samba 3.0.10. lprng 3.8.27.
When I print a test page from WinXP-Home, it appears to accept it.
However, it doesn't create a spool file and then when samba runs my lpr
command, it gets an error (33). I've changed the print command to lpr -P%p
%s in order to have the spool file, but it isn't

Print on HP deskjet via Samba 3
Hi list,
I have troubles with printing on a HP Deskjet 1220C (connected on
network through jet direct device).
I have a print server, which use LPRng and allow clients to print on
this 1220c printer as well as laserjet printers.
If client is Linux, I can print on all printers. So I guess my LPRng
config is good.
Another server runs Samba 3. This server's printcap redirect jobs to my

printing issue after update to 3.6.1
Hello,
we've updated to 3.6.1 yesterday, and since encounter
problems with printing for some users. There's a
descriptive error in the log.smbd, but I can't see
what to do about it really (the rest of the,
admittedly fairly ancient system, is the same base
system as the previous 3.5.5 - only a couple of security
updates were patched in during downtime).
The message in log.smbd is:

print command=... not longer working after update
Hi,
after an update from 3.0.4 to 3.0.7 Samba does not longer honor the
"print command" parameter. I use the parameter to implement a
pdf-printer.
Before the update, printing to the pdfprinter worked, after I see the
following in the logs:

cups/samba/filename
Hi all,
I use cups and samba on a mandriva2006 linux box. (Cups is compiled with
samba.
"ldd /usr/sbin/smbd" give "libcups.so.2 => /usr/lib/libcups.so.2
(0xb7e55000)"
and i'd like to see the correct filename printed,
not the samba filename smbprn.xxxxxx
is there a function in samba ?
Any suggestions and examples are welcome !

i can't print directly to my samba printer server...
Hi there Brian! I've seen your email on one of the samba mailing list. This
has been my problem for a long time. I just want to share this problem
directly to you and i hope you can lend me your help.
I'm trying to setup windows printer sharing using SAMBA installed on my
Linux box (Redhat 7.3 as printer server) and windows 2000 pro as my client.

general cups & access permissions woes
Hello all,
I have been trying set up a linux box as a print server for our mixed
windows network. It has samba working - everybody can see it & a shared
directory. I installed cups & that too seems to be fine - printing test
pages from the web interface works perfectly. But i can't get them to talk.
I think this is mostly as i can't find a decent howto & so am poking

Samba - cannot print multiple copies
Hi,
I successfully setup printing on my FreeBSD box
using Samba with apsfilter and lprng. However, I
have encountered two issues:
1) Cannot print multiple copies of documents from
my windows box (e.g. notepad). Only the first
copy is printed and the rest don't get printed.
2) My spool directory is getting filled up and
I would like the job removed after the print
job is finished

Print Job Names Are Obscure
Hello all,
Is there any way to stuff a more descriptive tag into a print job name?
The jobs we're printing now are of the type: smbprn.003447.sdfasa
I seem to remember a way to put the sending machine's name into the job
name.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Nb of copies don't appear in page_log file
Hi
I am currently using Samba 3.0.11 and Cups 1.1.23 with Windows
PostScript drivers and manufacturer PPDs on WinXP clients.
When I print multiples copies of a document from a Windows XP box, the
number of copies appearing in the Cups "page_log" file always takes the
"1" value but the printer prints the correct number of copies. When I do
the same on Linux (with the lpr
