StandAlone Server dont appear on win98 network neighbourhood
Hi everyone:
I m having problems making samba work as a standalone
server, it doesnt appear on the microsoft win98
network neigh. Let me describe my network a little,
cos its a little more complex than usual.
1.- Firewall with 3 ethernet adapters, the one that
handles my internal network has IP 192.168.1.1, the
firewall permit any communication within internal
terminals. And the ethernet that

one opinion about searching samba docs for answers
It sure is hard to find info in the documentation/mailing list for a
specific error. If an error log message was created by smbd, nmbd, or
winbind, shouldn't the documentation contain a description, cause, and
possible solution?
Specific case in point:

Changed PDC IP, all hell broke lose
I had to move my RedHat 5 box acting as a PDC to a new IP address. It is
running samba 3.5.10. After the move, none of my windows or linux samba
clients worked anymore. I tried rejoining some to the domain, but would
get error
Unable to find a suitable server
Join to domain 'MRIRESEARCH' is not valid
The old PDC IP address is 132.183.202.95 and nothing is at that IP anymore

Cannot Sync Browser Lists
I run an IPsec/Freeswan VPN to connect 4 disparet windows LANS.
I managed to RTFM until cross-subnet browsing worked (samba 2.0).
Having upgraded to 2.2.3 It would seem that this feature is not working.
BACKGROUND:
originally all sources of information led me to understand that I would
need a box running samba behind the firewall/IPsec box as I could not
even ping a remote internal IP from the

Slow Access
Before yesterday I had a perfectly (as far as I could tell) functioning PDC
with samba, roaming profiles and all. Yesterday I made some changes to the
server
1.) install dhcp3 server
2.) changed IPs from 192.168.1.50 to 192.168.1.1
3.) changed netbios name from garnet-base to garnetmain
4.) started two more interfaces eth1 (172.17.0.0/16) and eth2 (cable
internet) eth0 is still 192.168.0.0/16

domain_master_node_status_fail: ... Cannot sync browser lists.
This looks like a bug to me, except . . . no one else seems to have
encountered it, and it's in a pretty basic area, so there must be
something wrong at our site.
When the Unix server becomes a local master browser, Samba is unable
to sync its browse list w/that of the DMB. None of our NT machines
are having any trouble, and our tech. support guy says the DMB is in
good health. Rebooting

wins: no nmblookup on 192.168.1.255 but 192.168.1.2
Hi,
here is a client computer and a server computer (Debian Wheezy, armel,
samba Version 3.6.6, IP address: 192.168.1.2, Name: xyz).
Problem: wins doesn't answer nmblookups by the client on the broadcast
address:
client$ nmblookup -S xyz
querying xyz on 192.168.1.255
name_query failed to find name xyz
Why is that so? How to fix this?
When I specify the the server IP I do get an answer:

domain_master_node_status_fail
I'm trying to set up Windows browsing between subnets. I've set up a domain
master/WINS server on the .0 subnet, and local masters on the .42 and .254
subnets, and I'm running into the above error on one - just one - of the
subnets. The strange thing is that I'm running exactly the same version of
RHEL on another subnet - and I'm getting no error.
3.0.25 on RHEL5. The

Network Neighbourhood samba 4
When you say, there is not network neighbourhood in samba 4 you mean that:
1: all the workstations show in the network neighbourhood except the domain controller.
2: There is absolutly nothing in the network neighbourhod, no workstations nor DC.

Stumped at "Network Neighbourhood", Samba server is visible, but it's path can't be found ...
Hi all,
I can see the RH7.3 linux box I've configured with the latest
Redhat RPM samba package in the Windows 2000 network
neighbourhood, but when I double click the W2000 computer
icon I get the message
"\\Linuxbox is not accessible,
The network path was not found."
The network is a small switched lan, sadly with only one unix
box (RH7.3) and a mixture of Windows2000 and 98

Troubles with Network Neighbourhood
Hi ,
I've some torubles with smb server provided with Debian 3.0 Woody - I
can't see any machine in network neighbourhood, altought all machines
are loging and mapping resources shared by server correctly. What
exactly is needed to be installed with smb - any DNS or something like
this? Maybe the question is not too clever, but when I've had my server
on RH7.2 there was no such

Server string in Network Neighbourhood
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is the string that appears in browser lists restricted to being a single string without spaces, or can you include spaces ?
I have samba v1.9.15p8 running on a SGI O2 system, and I'm accessing its filesystems from a W95 PC.
I started off with the following line in my /etc/init.d/samba script
NMBD_OPTS="-C11th Floor SGI O2"

Problem with master browser, Vista kills network neighbourhood
I have a Samba Server 3.0.23a running on a Fedora 4.
Since Vista entered my lan I've been having problems with
master browser elections. When a Vista client connects to my
workgroup it kills the network neighbourhood and the only
machines seen is the vista client and my fileserver.
By changing the regedit entries on the client side following
this advice:

Network Neighbourhood shows dual workgroups.
We have a network here with Samba running as a WINS server and
is the domain master browser. The network also consists of a
couple of Novell 3.11 servers. Our Windows 95 stations have
IPX and TCP/IP configured, NETBIOS is NOT enabled for IPX.
The Windows 95 stations have the WINS server IP address typed
in manually as is the IP address for the machine. The DNS is
properly configured to resolve

NT network neighbourhood
Hi,
I am a system administrator but new to Samba. We bought new PCs with NT
service pack 4 and I am trying to configure Samba(2.0.x) so that users can
access their UNIX(Solaris/IRIX) files from NT. I have two kinds of
problems.
Things seems to be perfect when I try this with Win98 but with NT, I can't
see the UNIX server from Network Neighbourhood. But "net view" shows all
