Why is an extra 'home' dir showing up?
My question is, how come daevid (on XP) sees the following directories:
\\linux\dae51d
\\linux\homes
Shouldn't there just be the home dir only? Why does "\\linux\dae51d"
show up (I assume it's b/c that's who I am logged in as on XP which maps
to linux)? However, the fact that it does show up, shouldn't it be the
actual HOME directory of the linux user account dae51d (as

How do I create a globally accessible directory [partly solved] (XP works/98 doesn't)
I just want a simple, globally accessible directory for anyone on my
LAN. I don't care who they are, who they're logged in as on their
windows machine, I don't care about security (it's my own private
LAN!!!). Why is this so difficult to do? I've looked through the
archives (which by the way, could someone spend a few minutes and put a
SEARCH feature there. Following threads

I'm starting to feel like a moron because I have no idea how I caused this
current hitch. Here's the story: I was trying to add an acct called
"administrator" to samba which has an enabled,good linux acct. I never did
get that acct working for some unknown reason, but what happened as a result

smbusers and wildcards
It is my understanding that if you have a wildcard in smbusers, it
should only apply this if the particular users is not in your
/etc/password file. Is this true? It appears like samba is rolling
down the smbusers file and everything gets mapped to my wildcard user.
Eg.
smbusers:
root = administrator admin
nobody = guest pcguest smbguest
myunixlogin = mysmblogin
www-users = *

A few questions
1. There is no Domain Users group on my Samba 3.0.6 server. Does this
group need to be manually created?
2. In my smbpasswd file:
# Unix_name = SMB_name1 SMB_name
root = Administrator
nobody = guest pcguest smbguest
I can not join a domain using administrator. I must use root. What did I
do wrong?
3. Since there is no Domain Users group. I have been adding each user to
the admin group on the

I've been following the forums on this subject. I am

Excuse me if I bother you, but I badly need help.
Let me describe the situation. In my network there is a group of

Debian 9.x not linked to the domain (in a workgroup named TECHNOLOGY,
and the parameter security=user) one of which I use, and other three
computers with Debian 7.x in another workgroup (and security=share, so

Trouble with User Management
Hi all !
I am trying to setup a Samba 3 server which allows WinXP machines to access directories on a Linux box. So far, I have managed to set upa stand-alone server with a public share which can be read by everybody in the Windows Neighborhood. What I want to do, though, is to have some kind of user management, so that only the person who owns a Linux directory in the share can access it via his

Samba vs. Firewall and/or SELinux
Hi all.
I created a smb-share on my el6 for all windows-pcs in my
home-network (I'm the only Linux-User in my family) for sharing all the
stuff we have, like music and videos and documents. The share will be
shown on the other pcs (Windows XP), but they can't open it. The
error-message ist "Share not found" on our preferred language of course!

Can't map group domain share from ADS
I've set up the following and can open a home share
for me (sylveg). I've created a group on W2KADS and on

in both. I created a samba share called o_drive (see
smb.conf below) w/ the linux dir /home/o_drive and
valid users = %D+oadmnin. The /home dir is:
