Changing the name of a server?
Greetings, I have a server called "images" (both TCP/IP and NetBIOS) I am replacing with a new server. The new server's development name (both TCP/IP and NetBIOS) is "rackimages". Both are members of an NT4 Domain. Images is an NT4 Server, rackimages is a RH8 Linux box running Samba 2.2.7. I want rackimages to become images. I have it all set and ready to go. My

Help Samba Virtual Servers (Host aliases) configuration problem
Hi, I need to create one or more NetBIOS host alias of my unique SAMBA server version 2.27 which is running on a RedHat Linux 8.0 box acting as a simple file-sharing machine for our WORKGROUP. I need that my clients see three differents host more than the real fileserver; I think the scope of virtual server was based on which virtual host I'll contact I'll see the relative share: so

smb.conf man page FUBAR
I don't know who to report this to, but I'll post it here and hope someone with authority sees it. The on-line posting of the smb.conf man page is missing lots of information: http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/smb.conf.5.html Thanks, ...ROMeyn

nbp hell
Greetings, I spent the better part of a day tracking down a rather annoying problem. I would like someone more knowledgeable than myself to confirm this diagnosis. I have a RH 8.0 Linux box with three NICS. I had been developing it testing with an XP box. Everything seemed groovy. Today I went to put it into "production" and Win98 clients were having all sorts of problems.

Centos-compatible motherboards
Hi all! I'm toying with the idea of spending some Christmas money on a new MB and CPU to upgrade my desktop. Although I've always been partial to AMD chips, I'm tempted this time to find something Intel-ish, I5, quad core, or so. In looking at mommyboards at New Egg and Amazon, I find so many I am unable to make reasonable determinations regarding suitability, so am hoping some of

Evaluating an expression
Hi, I want to create a data frame similar to the following, but greatly scaled up: df <- data.frame(aaa= c("a","b","c"), integer(3), integer(3)) names(df)[2:3] <- paste("var",1:2,sep="") which yields aaa var1 var2 1 a 0 0 2 b 0 0 3 c 0 0 I would not relish having to paste 'integer(3)' 5000 times :(

Account management...newbie question
Hi all, I'm currently in the process of piloting a Samba server for file/print in a Windoze NT network. I'm using Samba 2.0.5 on Caldera OpenLinux 2.3 I've been managing Windows networks for quite a while, but Linux/Samba is new to me. What I want to know is: Other than making my Samba server a domain controller, is there a relatively easy way to import my existing user accounts

Horrible Linux/Samba vs Windows political battle - can you help?
Greetings, I am currently the IT Manager for a 30-person architectural firm. About 5 months ago we hired a new employee. He is quite good at what he does. He is also extremely opinionated, particularly when it comes to computer software, including server software. I'm running the office server functions on RedHat, Fedora and Trustix servers. He has managed to convince my boss that there

Samba 2 PDC upgrade to Samba 3 - group mapping problem
I'm in the process of replacing a Samba 2.2.12 PDC with Samba 3.0.14a-Debian. An LDAP database serves as the user data store, and I've made no changes to the Samba 2.2.x-compatible LDAP records. Since I don't relish LDAP schema changes, I've specified ldapsam_compat as my passdb backend; I figured that since I was already running a compatible LDAP schema, there was no need to make

/lib/firmware/microcode.dat update on CentOS 6
Dear All, An update just brought on my CenOS 6 boxes updated microcode.dat files: /lib/firmware/microcode.dat Does anybody know off hand what (how critical) is that, as, if it is related to most famous these days trouble with CPU hardware, I will need to reboot relevant boxes to have new microcode loaded. But if it is not that critical, it can wait till next reboot. Thanks a lot and

Should List be Moderated?
In light of recent flame baits and advertisements sent to the list, I would like to seek opinions of list members on making the list moderated. I certainly don't have time to moderate the list myself, so I would suggest giving at least a half dozen, maybe more, people the ability to approve posts to keep it flowing quickly. Moderators would be asked just to approve/disapprove based upon a

R-help "spam" detection; please help the moderators
Dear readers of R-help as most of you will *not* be aware, R-help has continued to work the way it does, only thanks to a dozen of volunteers, see https://stat.ethz.ch/mailman/listinfo/r-help . The volunteers manually moderate e-mails that "look like spam" (and sometimes are and sometimes are not). While much more than 90% of the spam is filtered out long before a human sees it, with

Asterisk firewall config
The asterisk wiki states that it needs SIP, IAX2, IAX and RTP open to the world to work. Is this necessarily true, or does it only need some of these outgoing? I'm concerned as anyone that could guess an extension number&password could use my server to make outgoing calls. It would help if the extensions had a netmask/allowable IP setting like the iax.conf file uses, but there

[PATCH] ocfs2: Use xs->bucket to set xattr value outside.
Tristan, could you please run your xattr test against it? xs->base used to be allocated a 4K size and all the contents in the bucket are copied to the it. So in ocfs2_xattr_bucket_set_value_outside, we are safe to use xs->base + offset. Now we use ocfs2_xattr_bucket to abstract xattr bucket and xs->base is initialized to the start of the bu_bhs[0]. So xs->base + offset will overflow

Fail-over uplink problem
Hi list, I have a problem I thought was simple first, but now I''m stuck. In a nutshell, it''s about redundant uplinks at an outside location. Crude ASCII-Art follows: Internet | | +------------+ | cisco with | | uplinks | +------------+ | | ATM interface +----------+ ... | alvarion | | | wireless

[LLVMdev] [bikeshed] Anyone have strong feelings about always putting `template <...>` on its own line?
tl;dr If there are no objections I'd like to change clang-format's LLVM style to always put `template <...>` on its own line. I think it's a general code-layout consistency win and avoids some cases where trivial code changes result in significant formatting differences (see the last example). Examples of the current behavior: -------------- template <class ELFT> class

IE7 Sortable Ghosting = true issue
I have a bunch of Sortables that can be dragged and dropped. When I set ghosting to true, the ghosted image is all garbled on the first drag in IE7. Every drag thereafter works completely fine. I have turned off all of our styling to try to isolate the issue, and it persists no matter what I do. I have also made it so Scriptaculous only includes the drag and drop and Effects libraries to try
