Unable to add machine accounts
I have the exact same problem as this guy: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2006-September/125699.html He describes it much better and in much more detail than I could, so I'll let him speak for me. Unfortunately, I don't have the same solution. nss_ldap is configured properly, and things like 'getent passwd' and 'id machine-acct$' show the machine accounts as

Windows logon doesn't work, Samba says it's fine
This is an immensely frustrating problem. I try to logon to my Samba 3.0.11 PDC running on SuSE, and the Samba logs report that it all went swimmingly: [2005/06/02 16:34:45, 2] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(305) check_ntlm_password: authentication for user [stpierre] -> [stpierre] -> [stpierre] succeeded So w00t, right. But no! Windows rejects my login with a "bad

problem with administrator accounts
I have a small domain with a Samba PDB and two Windows clients. My goal is to have all accounts held centrally on the Linux box, but the administrator login doesn't work as an administrator. That is, I can login just fine as 'administrator' (or as any of the other accounts in the Samba password db), but I don't get administrative privileges in Windows. In smb.conf, I have:

Need LDAP machine entry
I'm trying to troubleshoot a nasty problem with Samba 2.2.8a that I asked about here a while back, and I need someone with a working LDAP-Samba PDC -- preferably 2.2.8a, ideally running on Mac OS X, but I'll take what I can get -- to post the results of an ldapsearch for one of their machine trust accounts. All I'd need is the results of a command along these lines: ldapsearch -LLL

Integrating Samba and Netatalk.. :-)
Is it maybe possible to use the ROOT PRE EXEC of samba to handle netatalks .Appledouble files? I am just wondering how to handle PC's moving files that were created on the mac. Since if a PC user moves a file it won't move the resource fork. Now the mac can still access this file it just don't know who created it... But I don't see any variables that hold the current file

Upgrade from 2.2.8 to 3; users lack SIDs
I recently have upgraded from Samba 2.2.8 to 3.0.7. I am using LDAP as a backend, but I'm running into a problem. Namely, since my user entries have no sambaSID attribute, Samba decides they don't exist. (At least, that's how it looks in the logs, included below.) I've looked through the conversion script that's included with Samba 3, but it just uses the rid attribute,

smbpasswd complains about LDAP: "Object class violation"
I'm trying to get Samba on a Mac OS X box running as a PDC with an LDAP backend. I've read through all of the major walkthroughs I can find, and we've actually already got it running very nicely as a file server; people are currently authenticating against a different PDC and then mapping drives from the Samba box in question. However, I'd like it to be the PDC eventually, but

Can't join domain
I've got a Windows XP box that's unable to join my Samba (3.0.20) domain. We've got about 400 other computers, mostly WinXP, that have joined the domain quite successfully. I'm not sure when the most recent one joined, though, but I'm reasonably sure nothing has changed since then. The Samba log gives the following when I try to the computer to the domain: [2006/02/28

[BUG] VFS Netatalk and OSX/OS9
hi list, i searched bugzilla but couldn't find an open/fixed bug for my problem: [system] - AMD Opteron 248, 8GB - SuSE 9.1 Prof. x86_64 - Samba v3.0.11-2.1 from ftp.samba.org (ftp://ftp.samba.org/pub/samba/Binary_Packages/SuSE/3.0/x86_64/9.1/) - netatalk v2.0.2 (self compiled) [situation] we're accessing our samba fileserver (files, directories, ... ) from different platforms

Clients periodically disconnecting
Samba 3.0.21c, RHEL4. About a week ago, we restarted our Samba server because nmbd had run amok. Since that restart, our Apple clients have periodically disconnected -- by most reports, they disconnect every 15-45 minutes. It doesn't appear to be synchronized, i.e., every Mac on campus doesn't disconnect at once, but only occasionally. They get a message similar to: "A server you

Samba/Netatalk delete problem
Hi all, I'm have a Linux Box running samba and netatalk, and a file system shared with Mac and Windows users. My problem is that when a user in Windows delete a file that have a Macintosh label (color), and later the Windows user put another version of the file with the same name, the Macintosh label still apear (and this is not the behavior that i need). I view in the file system that

move from netatalk to samba + vfsfruit
since "ea = samba" was only added to very recent netatalk versions and so don't apply to files with a history of many years what is the way to go get rid of netatalk these days? is there still no tool to read/write the existing netatalk appladouble extended attributes which are *not* compatible with samba and write them back in the new format? afp.conf: appledouble = ea ea = samba

NETATALK support removed in SAMBA 2.0.3?!
I've just done a: ./configure --with-netatalk --with-mmap --with-ssl --with-quotas on my Linux 2.0.36/intel server... built samba 2.0.3 [release] successfully testparms is happy, my WinDoze clients are working smoothly (good job, Samba dudes!) I notice the netatalk.c file never gets compiled, doing mass-grep's (in all source/lib directories) on WITH_NETATALK don't show any

Netatalk Support?
Reply-To: Hi When configuring samba there is an option to turn on netatalk-support. I did this, because we need to see the shared on both windows and mac, but I couln't see any difference in sambas behaviour. Netatalk stored the ressource-fork, and some files the Mac-Finder created in Directories calles ".AppleDouble". I hoped, that with netatalk-support samba would handle those

rsync not copy all information for font file
Hi Ram, In OS X, some font types (not all) put the font payload in the resource fork. Netatalk provides AFP filesharing, imitating the resource forks by creating secondary files in ?.Appledouble? folders within each folder. Netatalk tracks the resource forks, and other metadata, by keeping a ?Desktop database? at the root of the shared volume ? look for .AppleDesktop, and .AppleDB. You can

Aw: Re: Re: rsync not copy all information for font file
what is the source and destination filesystem? here is some report that rsync has some problem with HFS+ filesystems and "ressource forks": http://quesera.com/reynhout/misc/rsync+hfsmode/ but as you are using ubuntu and not osx i`m curious what`s the problem, so i think we need more information here. regards roland > Gesendet: Freitag, 12. Migration to vfs_fruit with existing AppleDouble files?
Thanks for the response! This would be really helpful because we use a lot of old adobe type 1 fonts that are 100% resource fork and are rendered unusable without the marshalled xattr's in addition to the AFP_ streams. While ideally having it seamlessly integrated into samba would be great, if it's easier to run a one-time conversion utility we can do that too. Thanks! -S On Wed, Apr
