Solaris 8 smb problem
I'm not sure if this is a samba/solaris problem or a Win98 problem and I'll tell you why. I have a Solaris 8 server runing samba 2.2.2, a linux/samba 2.0.7 box and a couple Win 98 boxes. When I did a complete restore of my Win98 box from tape, I could no longer access the Solaris 8 server via network neighbourhood. I can see the Solaris/samba box there with the other Win98 and linux box

Samba/AD/Winbbind OU vs. CN?
I have encountered a problem so I am posting this question to both the
technical list as well as the normal user list for a solution.
When I initially joined the samba box to the Win2k domain as a member
server I followed the Samba 3 HOWTO and specified the OU in the Active
Directory. After speaking with our boss this is not the correct OU for
the users we need to authenticate.
My question

almost printing
Ok, I've managed to print to my HPDeskjet 694c attached to a Solaris 8 box
running samba 2.2.2 from Win98. Problem is with the left margin, there are
these little lines (garbage) running down the 1st column on the left side
of the page. Also, when I print a page from Word 97, the whole page doesn't
print (about 95% of it) and starts a little too far down the page. Printing

Enforcing local profile doesn't let Home Directory mapping
Dear all,
I am using Ubuntu 8.04 Server 64-bit edition and I am trying to
enforce Local profile for all users and below is my smb.conf file.
According to the samba documentation, leaving the logon home and logon
path values to empty will enforce local profiles, it worked. But, my
main requirement is when users login their home directories are mapped
and they appear in My Computer window so they

rsync from solaris to cygwin on xp, certain files always copied
I'm rsyncing a directory on a linux box to a win xp pro with cygwin. Some of the
files are always copied, or so it appears by the progress report and the fact
that a dot version of the file is created and grows to the full size before
completion. Note, the source file is not changing - it is a static file sitting
in a directory and is not modified. Nor is the corresponding file in the target

quiry on paste() function
Hi all, I want to club different objects (character type) to a single one and using paste() function that can be done happily. However the problem with paste function is the separator field is unique for all underlying objects. If I put separator as "-" then this will come in between all underlying objects which are to be clubbed.
Therefore I am wondering whether there is any mechanism

[Bug 259] UsePrivilegeSeparation crashed sshd under Linux 2.2
http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=259
------- Additional Comments From Al.Smith at gold.net 2002-06-25 18:09 -------
Linux 2.2 defines MAP_ANON in <bits/mman.h>, however it can seen in
/usr/src/linux/mm/mmap.c (lines 200 onwards) that if MAP_ANON is used
then the system call will return -EINVAL.
The following is a quick hack to get openssh to compile on linux 2.2:

smbclient failure
I am still unable to get the following command to work correctly. The
x's replace the correct entry obviously.
smbclient -Lboss -Uxxxxxx%xxxxxxxx
I decided to run the command as root preceeded by 'truss' so I could
generate a debug output.
This is the output from the command without 'truss'

DNS resolutions is not working in a Solaris 10 DomU
Hi,
I found a problem with the DNS resolution in a Solaris 10 DomU.
The Test Environment was:
I installed the Xen bfu on top of Solaris snv43 and booted the Dom0 with
Solaris. Then I installed and booted a Solaris 10 DomU.
In the Solaris 10 Dom0 the DNS resolution works; in the Solaris 10 DomU
the DNS resolution does not work as expected:
Inside the Solaris 10 DomU I can''t use

multipl disk failures cause zpool hang
Hi,
There seems to be a few threads about zpool hang, do we have a
workaround to resolve the hang issue without rebooting ?
In my case, I have a pool with disks from external LUNs via a fiber
cable. When the cable is unplugged while there is IO in the pool,
All zpool related command hang (zpool status, zpool list, etc.), put the
cable back does not solve the problem.
Eventually, I
