Anyone have management docs for a Samba migration?
I'm helping out a Sun colleague, who has to present
a formal proposal and plan to management for Solaris adoption.
If anyone has docs for a migration, I'll happily
scrub them of any identifying matter for our use, and
if it's OK, for addition to the supporting material
at samba.org.

When configuring a SunOS 5.9 box running Samba 2.2.8a with security=domain,
as per

However, 'security=user' works correctly.

3.01 & FreeBSD Port/Install Makefile Config
Hello,
It appears that the FreeBSD port of Samba 3.0.x may be
falling behind. The port maintainter does not use
Winbind and thus has not kept up with the development
of it. 3.0.1 will very shortly be ported to FreeBSD,
currently it is still at 3.0.0. I know there have been
some recent changes to Samba that help FreeBSD out,
and I wanted to make sure that the port of Samba 3.0.x
on FreeBSD stays

Re: Need HELP in upgrading SAMBA 2.2.12 to 3.0.20
You accidentally asked the development list this...
However, the program is quite compatible, and upgrades easily.
If you want to be careful, install the new samba somewhere other
than on your production machine, then run the new version of
testparm on the smb.conf file from your older system. Ask
this list about any errors and warnings (and CC me (:-)).
Then try using the new samba to

Re: Samba file transfer problem.
You accidentally wrote to the wrong list (this is the
developer discussion about code), but we do recognize the
problem. I've redirected it...
Windows **preserves case** but it does not **honor** case.
As far as it's concerned, aaa aaA, aAA, AAA and so on are all
the same file, but to confuse you it remembers what case you
used when you created it and displays that back to you.

Cannot view the list of user
Dear Samba Users;
I'm running samba-2.2.7a on RedHat 9. Now, I'm trying to configure
Samba as PDC. I have followed the instructions from :
http://sg.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch04.html
But, the problem is when I want to view the list of user (Figure
4.5), I got error message like this : "Cannot view the list of user
this time. Please try again later"

can't create user entries in smbpasswd
Hi all,
after installing samba 2.2.5 (on Solaris8 running NIS+) it is not
possible to create user entries in smbpasswd.
I generated the smbpasswd file by

/usr/local/samba/private/smbpasswd

then tried to create user entry "dummy" in smbpasswd by

From NT4-PDC to Samba-PDC: 2.2.7a or 3.0.0-beta-x?
Hi,
I have one NT4 PDC that needs to be migrated to Samba-PDC. No Active Directory.
Just users, groups, windows shares... the works.
I'm seeing that Samba-3.x is "very PDC-oriented". I like that. But, so far,
Samba-3 is still in beta/pre-release versions and in my "stock" distribution,
Samba is on 2.2.7a version (2.2.7a-security-rollup-fix).
Should I wait for Samba-3?

Configuring Meeting Room from Asterisk Manager API
Hi All,
I want to do a three-party conferencing using manager api.
But I found out from the asterisk-users list that I *MUST* use
the meeting room concept.
I wanted to know wheather meeting room can be configured dynamically?
on the fly? Otherwise, configuring meeting room statically is not scalable.
Thanks

2 (Suse), one NT 4 server machine and 5 user databases???
I currently have a setup of 1 NT 4.0 PDC server and to SUSE boxes
sharing via a samba share. I seem to have to make 5 different
usename/password databases. 1 for NT, 2 for each SuSe box (One Linux
and one Samba). Is there a way to have 1 or maybe two databases to
update? I've read about LDAP on other connections but I'm a little
confused as to what is the best approach.

[PATCH] virt-v2v: Support for Converting VirtualBox Guests
Hi,
attached is an updated [1] patch for virt-v2v to support converting
VirtualBox guests with VirtualBox Guest Additions [2] installed. With
the patch applied a VirtualBox RHEL 6 guest with Guest Additions can be
converted with the steps documented in the manual page.
I've tested this patch on a RHEL 6.2 host running VirtualBox 4.1.8 using
a RHEL 6.2 guest, the guest works as expected
