Anyone have management docs for a Samba migration?
I'm helping out a Sun colleague, who has to present a formal proposal and plan to management for Solaris adoption. If anyone has docs for a migration, I'll happily scrub them of any identifying matter for our use, and if it's OK, for addition to the supporting material at samba.org. --dave -- David Collier-Brown, | Always do right. Re: windows policy creation and implementation' in SAMBA PDC
[You accidentally asked the developer list instead of the user list --dave] This is called "Profiles" in windows-speak, and is described in chapter 25 of the Samba HOWTO Collection http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/PolicyMgmt.html and Chapter 4 of Using Samba, http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch04.html and also in your downloaded

Re: Need HELP in upgrading SAMBA 2.2.12 to 3.0.20
You accidentally asked the development list this... However, the program is quite compatible, and upgrades easily. If you want to be careful, install the new samba somewhere other than on your production machine, then run the new version of testparm on the smb.conf file from your older system. Ask this list about any errors and warnings (and CC me (:-)). Then try using the new samba to

Re: Samba file transfer problem.
You accidentally wrote to the wrong list (this is the developer discussion about code), but we do recognize the problem. I've redirected it... Windows **preserves case** but it does not **honor** case. As far as it's concerned, aaa aaA, aAA, AAA and so on are all the same file, but to confuse you it remembers what case you used when you created it and displays that back to you.

Cascade PDC and Samba 2.0.4b
A colleague just wrote and said he's had a problem with Samba using a Cascade ("SLS") PDC. This is odd, as Jeremy tested that rather recently! FW: : Re: Multiple smbd processes generated
Dear Dave, Doesn't this only work if you're using samba as a domain controller and the client says "net use h: /home" I've not got it to redirect "//server1/username" to "//server2/username" when the NIS map says "user server2:/path/&" Though if it could be done I'd be VERY keen.
