Administrator account samba-3.0alpha21 and LDAP
Hi!
I am setting up a test bed for Samba PDC + LDAP. I used the 3.0alpha21
rpm for RH8 from samba.org. The setup is working. Win9x client can
login no problem.
I was wondering how I should setup an "Administrator" account for the
domain. Right now, my plan is to have samba authenticate only to the
ldap backend ("passdb backend = ldapsam" only). Does the administrator

Restricting winbind to the default domain
Greetings,
I want to use winbind in conjunction with nsswitch in a pretty large AD.
I would like winbind to only map users in the default domain. As it
is, winbind map users in other trusted domain of the AD too, which is
*not* what I want.
I am not sure I made myself very clear, so here is an example. Let's
say I have an AD called ACME.COM. There are the domains PROD.ACME.COM

RHEL 4 rpm for Samba 3.0.14 ?
Hi,
Does anyone know of a binary rpm for Samba 3.0.14 that wonrk RHEL 4 ?
The binary RedHat rpm on samba.org have been compiled for RedHat 9, and
it does'nt install on RHEL. I would recompile the .src.rpm, but if
anybody know of a repository that carry a binary, I would be glad to
hear about it.
Thanks !

Cross-subnet browsing, with a twist
Hi,
We have a server being hosted in a data center. We would like to use it
as our PDC. I got the remote browse sync and announce figured out.
But, if possible, we would prefer not have the domain/workgroup
advertised on the subnet where the PDC reside and conversely not receive
the browse list for workgroup hosted on the PDC subnet on our local net.
Right now, I firewalled the subnet

Re: One more
Hi,
I've solved that issue by setting
homeDirectory: /dev/null
loginShell: /bin/false
to the users and don't wish to give access.
Don't know if it is the right way, but it solves my problems.
But then again, I'm using Samba+OpenLDAP, and have almost zero experience
with AD.
Best regards,
Bruno Guerreiro

Re: One more
I use pam_require.so to limit access to services via pam. Here is how
I limit access to my pure-ftpd server to a specific group (GLFTPAccess).
You can also limit access to specific users, like I did with the user
root.
auth sufficient pam_winbind.so
auth required pam_unix2.so # set_secrpc
auth required pam_nologin.so
auth required pam_env.so
account required pam_nologin.so

Odd behavior of winbind
Hi,
I have an odd problem with winbind. I use it for, among other thing,
nsswitch user resolution. I believe it have a problem with accessing
information for a single user, or with caching.
When I request info for a specific user, it fail (trying to login also
fail with NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER). But it work when I request info for
all users. And then, login and getent for single account start

Centos 5.4
I just saw in another list email that RHEL 5.4 is due out any day now.
How long does it then take for the cooresponding CentOS release to come out?
I'm in the process of making a new master server image based on 5.3.
Though I suppose since I'm using Kickstart/Anaconda, it should be
pretty easy to change it from 5.3 to 5.4

TE410P ERRORS under load
Hi all-
HELP!
This is actually a revisit of a problem that I had earlier with E400P's at a
customer site. Customer still gets locked up channel problem, but has
learned to live with it (channels clear themselves after several minutes).
The symptoms, which I believe are directly related:
I'm having problems with tons of framing and "read" errors on my E1
connections (and

roaming and local profiles on same domain
I have samba 3 configured and running fine as a PDC with LDAP as the
back end user database. I have most users using roaming profiles but
there are a few I would like to be able to only have local profiles.
Is it possible to configure samba to use both types of profile rather
than one or the other. I have the profile path set on each user
account in LDAP as the field

INVALID PIPE HANDLE
I'm trying to use Samba 3.0.5 on a slackware 10 system and am having
problems getting my XP Pro machines to join the domain. Whenever I try to
add a machine to the domain the error "the remote procedure call failed"
is shown.
When I look at the samba log file I see the entry "api_fd_reply: INVALID
PIPE HANDLE: 746f" cooresponding to the time I tried to add the machine.

How to create MULTILEVELS in a dataset??
Dear R users
I have a data set which has five variables. One depenedent variable y, and 4
Independent variables (education-level, householdincome, countrygdp and
countrygdpsquare). The first two are data corresponding to the individual
and the next two coorespond to the country to which the individual belongs
to. My data set does not make this distinction between individual level and

LDAP suffix question
Hi,
I would like to have a DIT similar to this for my Samba server :
ou=People,dc=domain,dc=com: users accounts
ou=Group,dc=Domain,dc=com: groups
ou=Hosts,dc=domain,dc=com: machine accounts
ou=Samba,dc=domain,dc=com: Samba specific stuff, such as sambaDomain,
sambaUnixIdPool, etc
My understanding is that "ldap [user|group|machine] suffix" is relative
to "ldap suffix".
