Samba 4 ADDC. Dynamic DNS updates from Windows clients.
I'm currently testing samba 4, and I've come across a problem which I can't
seem to find an answer for.
I have one samba 4 ADDC running on a Centos 6 container, compiled from the
latest stable source release and setup as per the samba wiki. I'm running
the internal DNS server.
DHCP is provided to the network by an openwrt router. The router is
configured to hand out the DNS

Dynamic DNS Updates
Having reconfigured Samba4 to use BIND as a DNS server to get dynamic DNS
updates working, I'm still working to understand the system.
The Windows client I'm testing only seems up update DNS if I run ipconfig
/registerdns. It doesn't update DNS at startup or IP change OOTB. Is it
expected that Windows clients run a startup script running ipconfig
/registerdns or have dynamic updates

Signed Dynamic DNS Updates with Internal DNS [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
UNCLASSIFIED
I just installed SAMBA 4 as the PDC on a new standalone Windows network (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO#Samba_AD_management).
Everything appears to be working correctly except for signed dynamic updates.
Non-secure updates work fine. A, AAAA and PTR records are added to DNS when a PC joins the domain or I issue ipconfig /registerdns.
Using wireshark, I see the

Dynamic DNS under LINUX clients to a MS DNS Server
Hi !
I am a lonesome penguin in Siemens Austria fighting my battle against
the "mouseschubbsers". I have a specific problem I would like to get
assistance form any kind soul:
network administration is denying any static dns entries in the domain
and does not add a reverse entry on the DNS server for the name
resolution of my client linux box.
So now it comes. I know there is the

Administrator account lost administrative privileges
Hello,
Using Samba 4.7.4 on 6 Ubuntu 14.04 as DC's. Recently noticed
applications were failing to install on Windows 10 and 7 workstations.
Started to investigate and noticed the Administrator account could not
install software. The Domain Admins appear to work as normal with full
domain rights. As a test I logged in to a Windows 10 workstation as
Administrator and invoked a

W2k client with AD can't access linux-Samba 2.2.1a
Hello List,
I need help to access my private linux box using my company laptop (w2k).
The smb connection between both computers
worked fine for the last years.
Now, during the last couple of weeks our internal IT-department was closed
and outsourced. A new external company
installed an Active Directory server and somehow managed to migrate my
laptop, too, to use the company's AD (I

net ads join hangs forever
I am trying to join my Linux workstation to my ADS domain.
Unfortunately, I'm not having much success. net ads join hangs forever
(or at least for more than 12 hours) when run. The computer account is
created in the domain, but the process never completes. tdbdump
secrets.tdb shows no results, and wbinfo shows users and groups from the
trusted domains but not from the domain I am trying to

BackupExec Agent on Samba
Is there an improved BackupExec Unix agent available that works with Samba?
If not, can someone tell me how to work around the lack of the archive bit
that Linux has? In particular, RedHat Linux 7.2 is the system I'm looking
for help on.
I found the following hints in an older version of this newsletter, Samba
Digest, Vol. 3, Issue 34, sent March 21, 2003, that had this in it:

Windows 10 does not register dns in samba 4.3.4
Are your running more domains on this samba server, this is the primary domain? tplk.loc ?
The settings below looks good, you can try setting ipv4 preffered over ipv6 ( or disable ipv6)
You can try also it with a fixed primary dns suffix.

I'm not sure about the "--all-names" option, but the regular
"samba_dnsupdate --verbose" updated all dns records for all DCs shortly
after I joined them.
The problematic dns records here are

Please Help! Dynamic DNS just will not work: " failed gss_inquire_cred: GSSAPI error: Major = Unspecified GSS failure"
I just can't seem to get dynamic DNS updates working on CentOS 6.4 with
samba 4.0 .tar.gz from samba.org using BIND9_DLZ.
If I run bind 9.8.2.rc1 in debug mode and go to a domain joined windows
