Excell 2000 under Samba
We are using Samba on a Sun Solaris system having
shareable folders between users of Sun and NT
workstations.
Having recently upgraded a number of users from Office
97 to Office 2000, we are now experiencing a situation
with Excel where two users can now modify the same
file at the same time.
This was not allowed with Excel 97.
We have not made any changes to the Samba
configuration and are

Excell files clobbered by Samba log files
I have a couple Samba servers running 2.0.4a on Solaris 2.6. They
generally give me no trouble, and have been stable for a long time.
I'm in the process of qualifying 2.0.7, but feel no great urgency
to upgrade.
However, one day last week several users reported trouble getting
to their files. I changed the debug level several times during the
day to try to diagnose the problem. With

Samba crashing word and excell?
I am having some trouble with Samba. It was working fine on an old server with 3.0.21.
Now I have updated to 3.0.28 (via 3.0.25) and a bigger fatter faster server.
There are two problems. Firstly the new server seems slower than the old one, and some users
are experiencing intermittent data loss via MS apps such as Word or Excell crashing.
The system runs on Arch Linux, with a slightly

Early media dectection problem
I noticed when I call certain IVR systems, such as 1800calldhl, that
Asterisk will not
barge the prompt. Would this imply that Asterisk has an Early media
detection problem.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem. Is there a fix?

Web Forum for SysLinux (Miller, Shao)
Hello, to quote another user, ?long time reader (practically) first time
poster?.
First off I must say I am not a huge forums fan myself (That is why when hpa
declined boot-land?s offer I wasn?t surprised), however I do want to address
some of the statements I read here, and give my two cents.
?
There is another aspect to this, and that is that web forums suck for
searching... it is very fast

# Hi all,

Windows 2000 workstations can't open Excel files on Samba-2.2.7(a?) after "ServicePack-ing 4" on them.
Hi, Samba-friends
I am not very deep in Samba *file* services, so please bear with me.
The network admins of my employer alarmed me (being the local "Linux
Guy") with this problem:
* they run a 2-node fileserver cluster, based on RedHat (version?)
with a Samba version announcing itself "2.2.7-security-rollout"
or similar.
* Samba runs in a chrooted environment. It was

R and excell differences in calculation F distributionfunction
R-help,
I'm trying to work out the density function by doing:
> df(5.22245, 3, 22)
[1] 0.005896862
> df(15.20675, 6, 4)
[1] 0.001223825
In excell the result is :
0.0071060464 <*> FDIST(5.22245,3,22)
0.0100001406 <--> FDIST(15.20675,6,4)
>From my point of view the differences in the second case
are substantial.
Can anyone give me a hint on this?

Browsing issues NT WS 4.0 and Samba
Hi Guys/Girls,
I have recently been trying to implement samba into our environment here as
a replacement for ftp clients.
What I am finding is that windows explorer (NT W/S 4.0) will not list all
the files in the directory or in fact all the sub directories either. It is
quite unusual, one of the shares we have contains two directories sun and
suntst. They are basically mirrors of each other (
