samba connection problem when volume is under LVM snapshot
Hello,
I have a problem when uploading file to samba server when the share's volume
is under lvm snapshot. I always got "The specified network name is no longer
available", this happens when uploading large files like 500MB and the
volume has a lvm snapshot(even 1 snapshot). If there are no snapshots,
everything is ok, I can transfer large files without problem. my client is

NTLMSSP(NTLMv2) problems after PDC reboot
Hi all,
In my win2k ADS server(mixed mode), I have set the LAN Manager
authentication level to Send NTLMv2 response only\refuse LM & NTLM. In
the registry, i also set
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa|lmcompatibilitylevel -->

copy of a share without path
How to use copy:
[template12]
writable = yes
browsable = yes
valid users = andy, dave, jay
[share1]
path=/path/to/share1
copy = template12
[share2]
path=/path/to/share2
copy = template12
Here template12 is a template and it used later for declaring shares share1
and share2.
template (or in my example template12) is not meant to be used as a share
because a share is a

Thank you for your message.
I was not sure if the example (from here
https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch06.html) was incorrect or
if I was missing something.

Matthias,
Sorry I should have wrote more details.
I agree with your message and I understand that template12 is not meant to
be a share.
What I tried to say is:
when I have this configuration:

valid users = alex

path = /home/alex
copy = template12
I can see this error in /var/log/samba/log/smbd

%S Macro seems broken in default service
I am having trouble with the %S Macro being expanded to an unexpected
value. We have a section of disk where each directory under that
directory is to be it's own share. This looks like:
/export/
/export/share1
/export/share2
.
.
/export/shareN
Rather than listing each share uniquely in the smb.conf, we put this in
the global section:
default service = export

Do software raids don't dance Samba?
Hey all,
well, first of all (even if it's quite late as it's in version 3.0.7 already): thanks a lot to all who
are developing and supporting Samba! I'm new to Linux and I really like the way things
are happening on this OS. But now, I've reached a point where I have to raise the white
flag...
It seems to me like - at least my - software raid can't dance Samba. I've got

Cleanup permission settings / traverse folder
Hello,
I have problems removing the permission settings on a directory/folder after configuration of a share.
My folders look like:
/var/folder1/folder2/
I created share1 on folder1 and share2 on folder2.
Afterwards, I activated ACLs and set permission on folder1 to domain/group1 and on folder2 to domain/group2.
I couldn't access share2 with a user from group2 and I figured out that Samba

Is max connections applicable to homes section?

if I put max connections = 5 in the homes section, does this mean that only

read only = NO
map archive = YES
case sensitive = no
sync always = yes
hide dot files = no
max connections = 5
besides homes, max connections is working, but in homes looks like this is

I'd like to accomplish te following but can't seem to find how:
Share1

subdir2
Share 1 that is connected by our Windows clients, should NOT be writable
directly. This means, nobody (except a specified group/user?) should be
able to create a top-level folder or file in this share.
Write and execute rights through the subdir1 and subdir2 should however
be left alone and

Samba 4.11 "Stale file handle"
Hello,
After upgrading to Samba 4.11 (from 4.10) I noticed that python
scripts using tempfile.mkstemp fail when run against samba cifs
mounts. Before I submit a bug report, could someone else try this out
so it's not just my setup?
How to reproduce:
1. Mount a Samba 4.11 share using the mount command: mount
//server1/share /tmp/share1
2. Run python script that is using mkstemp:

VFS Objects Recycle questions
I have a need to setup the recycle vfs object on our server.
On my test server, I have all of the shares on a single drive and have put

recycle:directory_mode = 770

recycle:touch_mtime = Yes

dfs problems addressed in 3.0.25b?
Is the issue below addressed in 3.0.25b? (no freebsd port available yet
so I'm still at 3.0.25a)
I can't see anything specifically about this in the release notes.
I just want to add that I've also seen this behaviour on a windows xp
x64 client.
It's a pretty serious problem.. so I'm also thinking I may have to
revert to an earlier version if it doesn't look like a

Only one user can play shared OGGs
Hi Everybody,
I was wondering if a few of you might be able to send some brainpower my way regarding a problem I've been having.
My Samba 3 server serves OGG files to serveral Windows XP clients, all on the same subnet. As "user_a", I've been ripping OGGs on one windows box and saving them to /home/user_a/ on the server. I can then copy these files from user_a's home

msdfs proxy and subfolders
Hello, everyone,
I'm seeing some inconsistent behavior across SMB clients when
configuring shares using the "msdfs proxy" parameter, and was hoping
to get some advice from the community on this. My issue is that
various SMB clients seem to behave differently when this parameter is
pointed as a path that includes a sub-folder under the root share.
So, given the following share

Hello,
First of all I would like to thank the Samba Project Group for this state
of the art software. I would like to thank every body for helping each
other out.
Please ignore my poor English writing. It is not my native language.
Although: I do the best I can.
We use Samba for a while now. We started with version 4.0.6 and updated
each time. Now we are at version 4.0.9 and we are planning to

Ubuntu SSSD Active Directory Authorization issue (group membership is not honored)
Hello all,
after spending the last days fighting and researching I hope someone can
point me to an solution here.
Even if I am using Debian / Ubuntu since years I wouldn?t consider
myself as a Linux professional. I have some experience though.
What I try to accomplish:
- Centrally administrated groups for file services. Right now it is only
one server but there will be more.
Setup:
