W2K3 SP1 - PERSISTENT CONNECTION(S) BUG?
After testing my W2K3 SP1 terminal server against a SAMBA server *AND* a

Step-by-step guide for PowerPoint under wine?
Dear All,
is there a step-by-step guide on how to install
PowerPoint 2000 with wine (I'm running PhotoShop 3 and
UltraEdit with it, perfectly !)
System: SuSE Personal 9.1, wine -version is
20040213-41.
I tried to start the install with 'wine
/path/to/CD-ROM/setup.exe', it takes forever and
finally it returns with 'file not found'.
The files are all there, expect that on the

Suse 9.3 boot problem
Hi there
I got Suse 9.3 on a raid 1 (md0 :boot and root and md1
home)
When I try to get the xen kernel booted, the process
goes up to a certain point and then reboots
I got two problems:
1) Since I used default suse parameters I would assume
all my settings should be OK, so why does it not boot?
2) When booting and getting to the reboot point, it
holds the messages only for one second. How can

unprotecting the first 64KB of memory to allow real-mode calls.
Hello,
this is my first wine-time, and a lot of winprograms
run "out of the box"
Great!
But there is a little DOS-program which does not run.
Where can I look for the error?
Thanks for any hint.

Group Mapping: All Users from a Domain group should be able to write to a local group
Hello Mailinglist,
I have created a local user "localuser" who is in the local group
"localgroup"
$ id
uid=1001(localuser) gid=1001(localgroup) groups=1001(localgroup)
My machine authenticates against Active Directory - works
The AD-User "aduser" belongs to a domain group "adgroup"
$ id

rpc and wine
can someone tell me how to get RPC and WINE to work in conjunction with one
another? I have serious need to run an RPC application under linux's WINE
port. If I cannot find a solution, I'm regretably going to have to change
the OS to windows which I'd prefer not to do.
Thanks,
Chris

Editorial in Notices of the AMS: Open Source Mathematical Software
Hi all,
For those interested, while scanning /. tonight, I came across a posting
which referred to a new editorial in the November 2007 Notices of the
American Mathematical Society:

Although brief, it makes for interesting reading.

domain users in local groups with Winbind/Samba/Redhat
Hi,
I am running a Samba 2.2.7a on Redhat 7.3 in a NT domain. For authentication
I am using the domainusers. This is done by Winbind 2.2.7a which verifies the
existens of the users on the PDC. So I dont't have to create local users
(/etc/passwd) for users who want to connect to the shares in the smb.conf.
I authorise them by adding valid users = domain+domainuser to the smb.conf.
This works

Q about net groupmap examples on samba.org
Considering the following page...
http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/guide/small.html
First of, my compliments to John for some great examples to study.
In my mind I see three levels of security:
1) Linux - such as SSH'ing into the Linux server, Linux accounts and groups come into play here
2) Samba PDC - "Domain Admins" "Domain Users" come into play here. Examples

Firewall piercing - The Specified network name is no longer available.
Hi all.
I'm trying to set up one of my Unix machines at home so I can access my
stuff there via SMB from the Internet at large (read: from Windows-using
clients').
I'm behind two NATting devices-- the lame-p Prestige DSL modem provided by
Sprint DSL (a.k.a. Earthlink?) and a more typical home DSL/cable gateway
device.
I've poked holes in BOTH of these devices on ports 137, 138,

Problem using local groups when winbind is running
Greetings,
I'm running Samba on a Debian stable server and have run into a problem
I can't seem to get past. It's version 3.2.5. The basic setup is that it
authenticates users via 'security = ads' and controls access to
individual shares using local groups via 'valid users = @localgroup'.
All of the users have accounts in /etc/password and are added to the
groups in

Okay, I'm sorry, but that's the dumbest idea yet. If they didn't have
Windows, why would they use Samba?

A question about Samba, authentication, groups, quotas, etc.
Hello,
Server: Ubuntu Lucid server version
Role: Samba file server (I administer it)
Authentication: Against a Windows AD (I do not administer it) using winbind.
No other authentication scheme is practicable/possible - I do NOT want to
manage passwords locally on this machine.
LDAP: Not explicitly configured - local policies require a binary *.so file
that does not work with Debian based systems

Asterisk WITH Swyx... Any Idea?
Hi,
I'm a student and my thesis work consist in testing
Asterisk with Swyx(SwyxWare).
My approach is to declare asterisk as h323 gateway for
the Swyxserver using oh323 Plugin.
Is there any possibility to connect Asterisk with
Swyx? how?
the outgoing call must pass from Swyxit->to
Swyxserver-> Asterisk->to PTSN
Thanks

2x HFC ISDN Cards - SuSE 9.1 - Problems with making calls
Hello everyone,
I bought 2 HFC-ISDN Cards and want to run the first
card in NT-Mode an the second one in TE-Mode.
Everything looks ok under SuSE 9.1, but I can't dial
out.
I removed one card, for testing purposes and want to
run this one card in TE-Mode. I only want to make a
call with my Grandstream BT-101 over Asterisk via
ISDN.
When I try to make a call I get:
