I have not been on the list for month''s. Because I just lost my wife to
breast cancer last week. I came on here to ask a question
and became sad once again to see that Tom threw in the towel. Shorewall is
the only thing that I could say does not die.
I started using seawall, Tom''s first endevor into firewall''s back when he
got dsl. and have used shorewall since.

just checking if you have seen this before Tom.
Been trying to track down an issue where when I issue a restart on
shorewall it stalls for maybe 5 minutes. I have tracked it down to the
removing of the rules portion but have not been able to get any closer
yet.
Some place after "strip_file rules" and echo "Deleting user chains..."
It seems to fix itself after a reboot of the system for an unknown time
then it resurfaces

Re: Exchange Server in DMZ (Tom Eastep)
Hello,
First my apologies .. I have had the flu for days and I am still groggy ..
So when I replied the whole message it must have been the drugs in my system
.. :-)
Second my apologies .. Steve had answered this question already quite well
along the same lines as myself .. I just had not read BOTH digests first ..

Thanks Tom
Tom,
Thanks for your great contribution to the community. Not only should you
be proud of your product (best iptables configuration I have seen so
far) and of your in-depth networking/routing/firewalling knowledge but
most of all of your helpful dedication and kindness to other people
which you have shown repeatedly on this list. We are all here indebted
to you.
Good luck to you and your family

using virtual memory in R (Tom Allen)
hi
are you using a 64bit system? 32 bit systems can only allocate about
3GB to a single process.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/aa366778.aspx
I used to use 32bit winXP, then moved to 64bit Ubuntu8.04 to solve my
memory problems.
if you are 64bit, you should try playing around with the command line
arguments for executing R and also look
at the functions ?memory.limit and ?memory.size

Tom Short's R cheat sheet
I noticed that there is a newer version of Tom Short's "cheat sheet" than
the version currently posted on CRAN.
Personally I like the newer version, but maybe keeping the old version is
deliberate. Anyway, I was wondering if there's someone that I can notify
that can update the content.

Good afternoon,
We are long users of Icecast, and recently we are hitting 10/11 on stream now listeners. When we get there we get a message that we are exceeding server listeners. Is there a maximum listener count, is there a way to expand the number of listeners?

Thanks Tom. Development doldrums in another open source project
I, too, want to thank Tom for such a great software package and all the
support he has always given.
I was just reading a Slashdot interview with the Nagios/NetSaint author
Ethan Galstad. The whole article is interesting and I bet the questions
and answers would be similar for Shorewall:

Thanks Tom Dickson.... and the others
Hi:
I?m sorry I didn?t answer before, but I just couldn?t, I was too busy at my
job.
Tom, I did as you suggest me but it was a surprise, I don?t have acccess
to that web site!! I was not prompted for a password or any thing alike but
it was prohibited from my server. Nevertheless my workstation could do it.
I know you might be wondering: how come, but it?s simple. I have a RedHat

Tom''s Legacy
Dear Tom
Thank you for the incredible personal effort you have put in over the
years.
Shorewall is an incredible achievement. It has helped me enormously in
setting up my new business and securing my data centre ( at a price that
I could afford!)
Contrary to your opinion, it is also one of the best documented open
source projects in existance, you are very talented at explaining

Updating Tom Short's R Reference Card, contacting him?
I made an update/reboot of Tom Short's classic and public domain "R
Reference Card". His is from late 2004 and I've found myself giving it to
new R users with additional notes about packages.
If anyone knows how to reach Tom, that would be great. I am titling this
reboot "Short R Reference", in a play on his name, but I would like to know
he wants his name (and/or
