how to get 'real' freespace after rsync+hardlinks?
ok, so this is not entirely an rsync question. but, it seems the 'crowd' most familiar w/ hard-linking are the rsync crowd. so ... i'm doing rsync + incremental backups to a local drive. the incremental steps, currently, use the rsync REMOTE_DIR OLD_DIR ... time passes ... cp -al OLD_DIR NEW_DIR rsync REMOTE_DIR NEW_DIR approach. all works great. i'd *like* to be

Fun with veto files
Hi. I have a fileserver running samba 2.2.7 and netatalk 1.5.5 for old mac clients. Because the mac's are quite spammy with creating .AppleDouble and other system directories, I've added the following to smb.conf: veto files = /.AppleDesktop/.AppleDouble/Network Trash Folder/TheFindByC ontentFolder/TheVolumeSettingsFolder/System Volume Information/Recycled/ Now, when a windows client

Some calls drop after 30 seconds
Some users have complained that their calls drop after about 30 seconds.  Not all, just some.  After looking at the log files the only difference I can find from the dropped calls is the following line: [2020-09-07 11:29:59] VERBOSE[21666][C-00000055] bridge.c: Bridge 14410400-5e04-4358-af0c-45fd71f6f5cd: switching from simple_bridge technology to native_rtp     Most calls just do:

Symlink to directories seem recursively for Microsoft Workgroup Add-On for MS-DOS clients
I use Samba 3.0.23d at FreeBSD 4.11-RELEASE-p25 as PDC and sometimes Microsoft Workgroup Add-On for MS-DOS and Mail as client. At FreeBSD box I have directory /common/install/postgreSQL and symlink to it: /usr/export/XP/i386/\$oem\$/install/postgreSQL -> /common/install/postgreSQL The path /usr/export/XP shared for MS Network as XP and mount via net use X: \\my_server\XP. So files and

Locking issue
I know this has come up before....but.. I've got a locking issue I can't get over. Situation: --------- Unix writes a file to the /tmp directory MS-DOS (WFW 3.11) copys over the file (copy d:\file.txt ), locking it, and not releasing the lock. If Unix subsequently changes the file a re-issuing of the MS-DOS 'copy' command will appear to work ... but the MS-DOS file is

Free space/capacity displayed as garbage...
Dear, I'm having some strange problems with Samba. I have shared a linux folder on my samba and have mapped it to a drive letter in Windows XP (I also tried with Windows 2000). When I right click my mapped drive and click on properties to view the free space and capacity, I get all garbage as can be seen from the screenshot at: http://www.nuonsoft.com/temp/samba_free_space.jpg I'm running

Samba Printing api_rpcTNP: \spoolss: SPOOLSS_OPENPRINTEREX failed
Hello, after upgrading to samba 3.5.6 of Debian Squeeze some printouts will not printed. The same prinjob will printed after a couple of tries. I increased the loglevel and there are only a few messages which showing whtat could be the problem. The printjobs doesn't arrive at cups. 'merge' function creating duplicate columns names in the output
The "merge" command is creating duplicate column names in a dataframe that is the result of the merge. The following is the 'merge' command: x <- merge(invType , allocSlots , by.x = 'index' , by.y = 'indx' , all.x = TRUE ) The 'invType' dataframe was the result of a previous merge and has the following column names that are

disk space trouble on ec2 instance
Hey all, Ok, so I've been having some trouble for a while with an EC2 instance running CentOS 5.11 with a disk volume reporting 100% usage. Root is on an EBS volume. So I've tried the whole 'du -sk | sort -nr | head -10' routine all around this volume getting rid of files. At first I was getting rid of about 50MB of files. Yet the volume remains at 100% capacity. Thinking

I don't like putting /var in its

Nut issue or MGE issue?
Hi, I took the advice of Daniel O'Connor, found out what variables I had available to me, and put them in the conf. So now it looks like : [ellipse] driver = mge-shut port = /dev/cuaa0 desc = "UPS" lowbatt = 5 offdelay = 120 let the UPS charge up fully, 24 hours. I plugged a single lamp into it, with a 60W bulb.
