[4.3.11-Ubuntu] SMBD keeps Locks on NTUSER.DAT and ntuser.ini after logout
After having migrated my machines and user to Samba 4.3.11 on Ubuntu 16.04.1 (no domain upgrade, new provision, all accounts new defined) and old data copied over to the new machines, I have now a broader testbed and notice issues I didn't see prior to that. Having roaming profiles (defined in the user object in LDB)... Seemingly at random smbd keeps locks on NTUSER.DAT and ntuser.ini for a

Another 'file has vanished' incident
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, first, a big THANKS to everyone who is involved in developing rsync. This great tool has simplified my life so much. I use rsync to synchronize some SMB-Shares to an external firewire-disk. So I mount the shares into my filesystem (read-only), mount the external disk and rsync them. Unfortunately I've some troubles relating the

PDC for XP: empty desktop and desktop.ini showing up
Hello there, I'm trying to set up Samba as a PDC for Windows XP Professional (SP2). It seems to work fine. Machine accounts are created automatically, passwords between Unix and Samba users get synced, I can logon, profile directories are created - but there's a problem. I know that this is well-known, but it drives me crazy and I don't know any solution. First of all, the

Desktop.ini showing up
First of all I am new to Samba. I successfully deployed Samba 3.0.6 as a PDC w/roaming profiles. All the workstations have a desktop.ini file that shows up on the desktop after joining the domain. The contents of the ini differ from workstation to workstation. >From my understanding this file is a supposed to be a hidden file, but it is not. Any ideas? I apologize if I have not included

USRMGR, groups, and ldap
I currently have samba version 3.0.23 installed using ldap as the backend. I am experiencing the same problems as Holger Wesser mentioned in his posting "USRMGR.exe not working properly". However, it appears that the fix of creating the group mappings does not work. They appear to be mapped correctly on my setup. My net groupmap list is: Domain Admins

Problem with Windows XP
Helo, I've a problem with a network of XP Pc's and a Samba Server. The users logs in their homes directories, and later, when they save their files a message arises saying: "the resource is not abailable". If they close the XP session and open again, normaly, they can access to their homes. In another network of Windows 98 PCs, and with the same smb.conf this not occur. I

Question to the Samba-Developer
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi there, as mentioned in a thread before, I'm in trouble when trying to add a local group via NT-Usermanager. I think the problem is the following line in the smb.conf: add group script = /usr/local/sbin/smbldap-groupadd -p "%g" In this case, the only parameter that is handed over to the smbldap-groupadd script is the name of the

Running Debian as DomU
Hello, I just gain experiences in using XEN and hope you can help me. My hostsystem is Centos5 that I installed on a Software-Raid (Level 1). Afterwards I downloaded the debian-tarball from the jailtime.org website, extracted/mounted the image and copied the "*/lib/modules/*<kernelversion>"-folder from my host to the guest. My XEN-Configfile looks like this: kernel =

ntuser.dat
What are the implications of locking the ntuser.dat file on the user's server profile? That is, if I make the ntuser.dat file read-only, what affects will that have on the client?

Roaming profiles and case sensitivity
Hi, Yesterday I found big problems concerning my roaming profiles. They seem to work on some computers where they are always used, on some other the did not load properly (i.e. a default profile was loaded instead). After some debugging with userenv.log I found the very strange problem: case sensitivity for ntuser.dat!: [...] IsCentralProfileReachable: Testing <F:\testuser\ntuser.dat>

Compiling Samba 3.0.6 on FreeBSD 5.2.1
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi there, since yesterday the compiling of samba drives me mad. I'm running FreeBSD 5.2.1, installed OpenLDAP client/server and KRB5. Afterwards I got the sources for the 3.0.6-release, unpacked them and tried to configure like: ./configure --includedir=/usr/local/include/ - --with-libiconv=/usr/local/lib --with-pam --with-readline -

mandatory profiles
Hello! I am running samba 3.0 on fc2 in a win2000 network. I want to use only mandatory profiles in the network, but can't get this to work properly. I have set up a "perfect user" on my local machine", and copied this profile to \\server\netlogon\Default User. I have also made this default profile mandatory by renaming ntuser.dat to ntuser.man. In smb.conf I have added:

I'm trying to backup certain pieces of my XP workstations home directory to a mapped drive using rsync on Cygwin. I was able to create a fairly useful exclude-from list, but I'm unable to re-include portions a subset of an excluded directory. security with normal profiles
Following TOSHARG and "Samba 3 by examples" I implemented Folder redirection plus some security restrictions by building a custom NTUSER.DAT which is the default profile of my users. The problem is that each user has read/write access to its profile share therefore he can replace its NTUSER.DAT. This is why I chose mandatory profiles. Is there another solution? The problem with
