Fwd: Re: Samba Install/SWAT Access
Paul, Deryck, et al., Thanks for all of your help (OP isn't savvy--what was your first clue? <g>). After sufficient prodding, I went and looked and found the following URL, at our very own samba.org, for rpms for Samba v 3.0.14a:

Can't Install Samba 3.0.14a
I'm running FC3 with its bundled samba 3.0.11-fc3, and I'm trying to update to 3.0.14a. I've downloaded the rpms from samba.org, and (I think) I've backed up the original samba installation--/etc/samba--and I've stopped smb (I had to kill the smbd and nmbd processes; "/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb stop" didn't work). I've also withdrawn (make uninstall) an

[Fwd: Re: Won't Start Automatically]
Hi, ntsysv doesn't list the samba daemons (smbd, nmbd), and while I could use chkconfig, it appears, to add the daemons, I'd rather do this via the rcx.d links so I can understand what's going on. Won't Start Automatically
Greetings, Running FC3, kernel 2.6.9-1.667.i686, Samba v 3.0.11. I have been able to guts up Samba by adding a procedure to /etc/rc.d/rc.local, but I can't get the system to start from the /etc/rc.d/rcx.d directories. I have an smb script in /etc/rc.d/init.d that is soft-linked from the rcx.d directories, and that runs just fine when I invoke it from the command line, but apparently the

[Fwd: Re: [Fwd: Re: Won't Start Automatically]]
Actually, my problem turns out to be even more basic and foolish than that. I assumed that since the relevant Kill files were present in the ls listing, then the Start files would be, too. Nope. I had to make those soft links; when I did, everything worked properly. Eric Hines -------- Forwarded Message -------- From: Paul Gienger <pgienger@ae-solutions.com> <snip> Date: Sun, 27

Print Share Problem
I'm running FC3 and Samba 3.0.14a. I'm trying to work through Exercise 2.3 of the on-line Samba-3 by Example, and mostly things ore OK, but I can't get my print share to show up when I run smbclient -L localhost -U %. Everything else shows up correctly (although I do get two workgroups to appear, as there is another workgroup to which I used to belong before I separated from it (I

Samba Shares With only Partial Access
I have a 2Win2k, 1Linux (server) LAN; the server is running FC3 and Samba 3.0.14a. I am unable to get both users access to their individual shares. Essentially, I'm working through the Accounting Office example (pgs 31-35) of John Terpstra's 2004 Samba-3 By Example, and I'm doing something foolish and wrong on a basic level. I can get access to, and manipulate the files in, my

Option 'valid users' disappear in SWAT
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, maybe it's a bug, maybe not. I added some groups in the field "valid users" in SWAT and committed my changes. After that, this option disappears. When I manually delete all groups in the smb.conf, in SWAT this option is available again. I'm running Samba 3.0.14a (SerNet). Greetings, Holger -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE-----

[Fwd: Samba-3 By Ex Chapt 3]
One more thing I forgot to mention. The chapter calls for editing /etc/resolv.conf, but in my case it won't stay edited--it keeps getting set back to an original form (for searching my ISP) on every reboot. Thanks again. Linux/AD authentication stops working after ~5 minutes
I'm trying to do something fairly simple: login to a Linux box using a Windows AD-based account. I've followed the various recipes available online for configuring Linux (winbind, PAM, etc.) to this send, and I've got it working ... almost. I'm able to authenticate an AD-based user immediately after bringing up the Linux box, but a short time later (roughly 5 minutes, but it

RPM SPEC rebuild errors
Hello All, I have been trying all afternoon to rebuild the Samba RPM for my Fedora 3 with the MySQL passdb support and from what I can see it only needs the inclusion of "--with-expsam=mysql" in the SPEC file in addition to the regular ones. The problem is that no matter what version of Samba I try to rebuild, it always gice an error at the same place:

1. Does anyone know what may be happening here? When I try to map a drive from a PC, I get the following error: "The account is not authorized to log in from this station.". I can map the drive just fine from my PC. Does anyone know what may be going on here? Any help would be greatly appreciated. 2. SWAT won't start
Hi, I'm setting up Samba on a RH ES linux machine. I have basic functionality working and can access a share from a Windows pc. I set up smb.conf manually. I'd like to use SWAT but when I try to run it I get the error: -- The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost:901 -- I set up the xinetd configuration file exactly as I've seen online. Webmin works fine.
