Blacklisting repeated login tries
Please CC jmc AT xisl.com on any reply as I'm not subscribed.
We are getting several thousand login tries daily all from the same IP each
try.
It would be a great help to automatically refuse connections from a given IP
after a certain number of failed login attempts.
I was thinking of doing that myself but if anyone else is about to do it or
has done it please let me know.
Thanks.

samba pdc with ldap backend setup problems
Greetings...
I'm struggling trying to set up a samba 3.0.23c PDC with ldap
backend. The server is Fedora 5, OpenLdap version 2.3.19-4.
I've got it so smbd and nmbd start properly and I can use a windows
box and see the domain using srvmgr.exe and usrmgr.exe. I'm then
able to signon from a windows XP computer with the command
net use \\pdcserver\ipc$ /user:root rootpassword

samba 4.4.14 breaks classic domain
I have several Samba 4.4.x servers (Solaris 11 x86_x64) in a samba
classic domain. Samba patches are provided via the Oracle solaris
package update system.
The two domain controllers are running Samba 4.4.8.
A few weeks ago I ran the latest package updates on a non-critical
server, which brought it up to 4.4.13. All was OK as far as I could
tell. This weekend I updated packages

Multihome WINS Registration
I've got a bit of a problem, which is related to the problem I posted
yesterday. Samba is not registering the right address with the WINS
server, when it is on a multi-homed machine. The machine is on two
networks, like this:
Subnet A(128.173.188.0)

permissions not transferred using robocopy, xxcopy, net share migrate shares
Hello:
I've been working for a few days on getting a FreeBSD 5.3 server up and
running as a samba data backup server.
My goal is to schedule periodic backups of our file server. After reading
recommendations (e.g. by Mr. Terpstra) I've focused my attempts aroung
robocopy, xxcopy, net rpc share migrate shares.
However, I'm running into stumbling blocks that seem to involve a problem

Migrating Profiles: Revisited
Hello everyone.
Well, i've tried to figure this out on my own by asking questions and
reading the how-to provided by John.
I've followed the directions accordingly, but there are a few catches i've
noticed that seem to be throwing me a curve or to.
Let me recap. Basically, i've setup our samba PDC with LDAP. I originally
was going to use roaming profiles, but decided against

Boot hanging with rhgb
Hello
I have installed Centos-4.1 and love it over Fedora or Mandriva. A big
thank you to all the hands and minds that have put together a very good
distribution. However I do have a problem when I boot with rhgb enabled
in grub.conf. The system hangs at the end loading IE(when the bar is
full). I can get bye in either of two ways. The first is to switch to a
virtual console before the

fastest way to multiply each column of a matrix by a single vlaue
Let A be a m by n matrix and b a length n vector. What is the fastest
vectorized code for doing
for(j in 1:n) A[, j] <- A[, j]/b[j] ?
solution 1:
t(t(A)/b)
solution 2:
B <- matrix( rep(b, m), byrow=T, nrow=m )
A/B
anything else?
I have a program that uses this kind of operation million of times and
I appreciate your input.
Thanks.

samba 4.4.14 breaks classic domain
I increased the logging to 10 on the problem member server. Didn't see
anything of interest.
I did a packet capture on the PDC while typing " net rpc testjoin" from
both the problem member server (4.4.14) and a working member server
(4.4.13)

Best VoIP provider
It does not look like Nufone is still in business, judging from the
content on their site, which is very little. There is not even a
configuration document to download, to connect to their network.
The rates file is only for US/Canada calling. No international
rates on this rates.csv file.
I have signed up with a $5.00 account with them way back in November

6 times faster by eliminating apply
This is some kind of follow-up to my previous posts. I have further
improved the speed of my program 6 times by eliminating all the
apply(). It turns out that apply is slow, is slower than direct loop,
it is an order slower than a matrix operation alternative.
Here is one example. The first apply version runs 19 seconds, the
second loop version runs 13 seconds, the third matrix version runs 1

Sharing out users on multiple Samba server in Domain
Hello,
How can i configure samba to sharing out users on multiple server in one
domain.
I Have a PDC on my domain wich manage users with home on directories on
it.
I Would install a second samba server and distibute the user's home
among the two servers
How (and where ) can I declare to the PDC that one specific user
must connect to the specific samba server and mount his home
