Changing domain name
Hi, For reasons best known to the IT admin before myself, we currently have a domain name of WARLOCK. I want to change this. We have about 15 WinXP Pro client machines on the domain as well as a few linux domain clients. A bit of reading shows that it should be as simple as doing a net getlocalsid, making the change, followed by a net setlocalsid. I started doing this when I noticed something

Understanding Documentation about BDC in HowTo Collection
hi list&john, i read in the documention about BDCs: The domain SID has to be the same on the PDC and the BDC. In Samba versions pre-2.2.5, the domain SID was stored in the file |private/MACHINE.SID|. For all versions of Samba released since 2.2.5 the domain SID is stored in the file |private/secrets.tdb|. This file is unique to each server and cannot be copied from a PDC to a BDC; the BDC

Migrating: tdb to ldap (Samba Classic)
Guys, We have a Samba 4 PDC with TDB backend. We're now trying to a BDC so we need to migrate from TDB to LDAP . I've read the Samba documentation which says using tdb in both servers will cause issues. So the question is how do we migrate from TDB to LDAP in the PDC. The setup we are going for is each DC will have LDAP setup. The LDAP servers will then be replicated. Reading the official

Domain SID issue
Hello I have a client who historical had a machinename with an underscore in it : samba_machine I had to get rid of the underscore names and changed the name to samba-machine. At the same time I upgraded to samba-3.0.11 to get a printer queue problem resolved. Now it seems the Domain SID has changed, so I changed the new SID back to the old one with net setlocalsid, because on all machines I had

Migration from samba-3.0.21b-i486 to samba-3.0.27a-x86_64 corrupts root group mapping
Hello. I went and copied the config files from <source>/etc/samba/* and <source>/var/cache/samba/* to the target server and deleted the browse.dat and wins.dat files. The source and target servers have different IPs and hostnames, so we use "netbios alias". This has worked fine a couple of years ago. Now after all files have been copied, the old server shut down and the new

Samba+LDAP: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL because of primary group SID mismatch
Hi, I'm trying to get my new samba server running for a few days now and I start losing my mind over not figuring out what I'm doing wrong. Here's my setup: OpenLDAP 2.4.21 server with ~15 groups and >100 users, all having a unix and a samba NT password stored in the LDAP as well as a User SID and Primary Group SID assigned and stored in the LDAP, derived from the SID of the LDAP

pdbedit and root SID/RID
Hi I've been reading every documentation available for creating smb domain groups and users, mapping domain groups and users... still learning... Every document I read states that root should be modified to RID 500, by running ' pdbedit -U `net getlocalsid | cut -d ":" -f2 | tr -d ' '`-500 -u root -r', but I always get root to RID 1000 and its domain group RID

Samba3 by example problems
Hi All, I am going through a setup of a test samba3 box with rh9 with my self rolled copy of 3.0.10. I have removed the old rpm version of samba. I compiled 3.0.10 with all defaults except for the install prefix which I set to /usr/local/samba3. I followed the steps given in Chap 6 - making users happy in the online html version. I changed a few things. Instead of MASSIVE as the PDC name I

SID of member server in Samba domain (smbldap_search_domain_info: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL)
I have a domain with Samba 3 acting as PDC, and using LDAP (passdb backend = ldapsam). I now wanted to add a second Samba 3 machine as a simple file server. I get errors with getdomainsid and getlocalsid, so there is obviously still something wrong with my config. The PDC runs Samba 3.5.6 on Debian Squeeze. Sid queries return: # net getdomainsid SID for local machine MY_PDC_HOST is:

backend migration and Samba upgrade.
Short background : Due to Windows Seven deplaoyment we have to upgrade Samba 3.0 to Samba 3.4 (actually less version but I see no reason not to go directly to 3.4). And due to SQL backend support aborted we have to switch from SQL backend to LDAP backend. What I have in mind to do this migration is the following : -install samba 34/OpenLDAP (I also change the machine in the meantime)
