Unable to add computer to domain
I have an OpenLDAP backend, Samba knows how to talk to it, my Samba users are stored in LDAP and file shares work fine authenticating to the LDAP server. I tried executing smbldap-useradd -w server02 on the command-line and got the following error: failed to perform search; Can't contact LDAP server at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.7/smbldap_tools.pm line 362, <DATA> line 283. matchname messages filling logs - howto stop?
Listmates, I have had a few boxes where the 'matchname' message is filling my syslog with one new message ever ~40 seconds or so. No performance problems, just the log annoyance. An example of the messages are: Jan 11 13:43:03 nemesis smbd[2246]: [2010/01/11 13:43:03, 0] lib/util_sock.c:1685(get_peer_name) Jan 11 13:43:03 nemesis smbd[2246]: Matchname failed on Adrienne-PC.rbpllc.com

One account can access samba, another can't.
My wife and I each have our own workstation dual-booting WinXP and Gentoo Linux. We also have a third which runs Gentoo all the time. I wanted to set up samba on the third box and provide some extra storage space for both our Windows installs. It worked for a few days, then all of a sudden it stopped letting my account (michael) in while still letting my wife's account (amy) use the share.

Logging denied connections from outside LAN
Greetings - I have an interesting issue that I am trying to understand. This may not be a direct Samba related issue, but the results of the issue are showing up in the Samba log, so I thought I would start here. Please direct me elsewhere if there is a better forum for this question. I have spent some time Googling and have a small understanding of what is going on, but now my Google-fu

smbd cpu spin & Failed to marshall NET_R_SAM_LOGON
Apologies if this has already been dealt with, but I am over 3 weeks behind on Samba mailing list reading - but desperately skimming to catch up. I have just upgraded to 2.2.2 from 2.2.1 in order to combat some runaway smbd daemons. This upgrade does not seemed to have helped. This is a Solaris 2.6 environment. Every time the smbd goes into CPU spin, I notice the following things: a) truss

Domain logon problem
Problem: Domain logons temporary fail for a few minutes on all smb clients on the network. Reason: When using WINS support in samba-1.9.17p5 and the client request a resolv of a host-adress the sys_gethostbyname() system call in nmbd will block. When resolving a non-existant hostname or communicating with a slow nameserver the entire nmbd functionality will be unavailable causing this

smbd error: Matchname failed on (machine name)
Listmates, Samba has been trouble free for some time, but I have a very strange error related to one machine on my network that is filling my logs with smb errors. The box in question "ripper" is a normal WinXP box that is dual-boot with SuSE 10.3. The errors are received every 30 minutes or so: Aug 21 17:04:03 archangel smbd[3116]: [2009/08/21 17:04:03, 0]

auth problem: wbinfo works, smbclient doesn't
Hi guys, I have a strange problem. I can authenticate a user with wbinfo from my domain controller (security =3D ads), however when I try and map a share, the authentication fails. i.e. # wbinfo -a 'COAL+bcanglo%bcpass' plaintext password authentication succeeded challenge/response password authentication succeeded # smbclient '\\xxxxxxx\timtest' -U 'COAL\bcanglo'

Samba-3.0.34 can ADS join but not non-ADS join.
I was using Samba-3.0.14a perfectly fine. Now, I'm trying to use Samba-3.0.34. I can do an "ADS" join fine with Samba-3.0.34, but I cannot do my old non-ADS join anymore. Winbindd starts and stays running fine, but when I run net to do the non-ADS join I'm running into a strange "interfaces" issue. It now wants an "interfaces" line in the smb.conf file when

samba 3.3.4-1, lib/util_sock.c:matchname(1749) error??
Listmates, On my Archlinux server with samba 3.3.4-1, I am getting a smbd error that is filling my logs and I'm not sure why. The box 'ripper.3111skyline.com' shown below is a dual boot box and spends most of its life and mom's XP box and masquerades as an openSuSE 10.3 box the rest of the time. There are seven other boxes on this lan with 5 others being dual boot XP/openSuSE

TC not working well with bonded nics please help
Hi, I am facing a problem when I run tc on the bonded nic cards. When I run tc on a single nic card, it worked perfectly fine. But when I run tc on a bond of two nics, tc gives poor performance. The two nics were bonded in round-robin (load balancing) mode. I created a qdisc, class and a filter as follows: tc qdisc add dev bond0 root handle 1: htb tc class add dev bond0 parent 1: classid
