UI performance awful - please help!
I've set up a Samba 2.2.5 server authenticating against an OpenLDAP server. Everything seems to be working, except that changing directories takes 15-30 seconds. I've set up nss_ldap, optimized the nscd cache and my LDAP server's cache and indexes, and both seem to respond instantly on the command line (for cache hits, anyway). If I connect with NET USE on a client machine, it

NT Security tab changes
Do I need to patch ACL support into the Linux kernel just to allow users to change permissions on files hosted on the Samba 2.2.5 server? All I really need is to allow users to set read/write/execute on files. Right now, I don't have an ACL-patched kernel installed on the server. My users can see the security tab when they check the preferences on Samba-hosted files, but they can't

error when trying to copy file from samba share to old Windows CE share
Hello, This error started after upgrading my distro(did a fresh install of fedora 30 server edition), which upgraded samba from 4.1.20 to 4.10.4. If I try to copy a file using a Windows 7 PC from the samba share to an old Windows CE share (on a CNC router table, so can't upgrade it) it tells me: An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error,

3.6 member to 2008 AD, winbind integration, users sometimes lose group membership
We've had linux fileservers in our org for a long time and this roughly coincided with version 3.6. Our linux member servers are winbound, filesystems are ext2+ with acl support and permissions assigned to AD groups via setfacl. At any given time, out of all the users that use the fileshares daily there are about 1-2 that get "access denied" by the client os (win xp, 7 and 8).

Samba tuning advise
Helo, We use a big fileserver running Linux/Samba as fileshare. We are facing performances problems for which we'd like some advise : Clients are OS2(LanManager) and windows 2000 reading and writing lots of files in the same directory on the fileshare. We currently have more than 80 000 files in the directory (files size is about 100 Bytes). Could you please advise us some Samba tuning

Big Migration
Next month I will move about 3000 clients (w2k) to a PDC samba, after that I will have more 1200 clients, but this time will be Linux, my question is: 1- Is there domain logon, like we have for Windows users ? 2- is smb the protocol recommended to FileShare to Linux clients or NFS is better (is there another one) ? -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed

Samba and " (and maybe other characters) in paths/files
Hello I have samba installed on my server, with a fileshare. When connecting to samba, using windows, filesnames with " (double quotes) in them become gibberish on the windows client. Under linux I connect to these fileshares using NFS, and the names are correct (I also created them this way). I've made a screenshot: http://users.webmind.be/~glenn/samba.PNG How can I fix this?

"New Driver" button greyed out on Windows Client Despite having sufficient rights
I'm trying to add/connect to printers through samba, and tried to go through the "Add Printer Wizard" by clicking "No" for the "Do you want to install the driver now?" Prompt, but now the "New Driver" button under "Advanced" tab is greyed out, and there's nothing to choose from the printer driver list. I googled and the only response

OS/2 error while accessing samba share
I have a Samba server running version 3.0.2-6.3E on Whitebox Linux 3. The samba server is joined to a NT4 domain. I can access the share from my XP Pro box just fine. But, accessing the samba share from an OS/2 box results in an error. I am able to map the share just fine using 'net use'. But when I try to access the share within the GUI, I get the error: "No objects were found that

Greyed text in the background of a plot
Hi! Is there any way of having a greyed ("ghosted") text (i.e, 2006) in the background of a plot? I'm making a dynamic plot and would like to show the year of each time step as a big greyed text in the background. (the idea comes from Hans Rosling video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4237353244338529080&sourceid=searchfeed ) Thanks Agus -- Dr. Agustin Lobo Institut

Vulnerability patch issue for 4.1.x
Hi list, When I back ported vulnerability patch to existing samba4.1.21, I'm facing many fileshare access functionality breaks. (All issues are with DCE-RPC calls failures. Even though I have applied DCE-RPC patch) I see vulnerability patches have been provided for 3.6.x, 4.0, 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 but I don't see 4.1 patch for this. Many functions difference are there between 4.0, (4.1) ,

APW New Driver Greyed Out
Ladies and Gentlemen, I have done this before, but for the life of me cannot get it to work today. I am trying to setup SAMBA to allow non-technical users (one per site) to add printer drivers as needed. I am running Samba 3.0.24. Following are the relevant entries from smb.conf. # workgroup = NT-Domain-Name or Workgroup-Name pid directory = /var/run/ workgroup = BACKUPS
