SWAT Won't Start - Alarm Clock
Hey everyone, If anyone could help me with this problem, I'd greatly appreciate it. Whenever I try to start swat (from the command-line by invoking /usr/sbin/swat), it sits there for a very long time as if it's running, but any attempt to use telnet to the port or point my browser at it results in nothing, as if swat were just not running. Firewalling is no issue, I've disabled

Public printing and private sharing?
hi, this is my first post on this list, i hope i do everything right :) so, this is my situation: there's a small network (about ~30 PCs), most of which are running XP pro, some Vista (if the latter would complicate things a lot, we could forget about them) there's a server running ubuntu, to which a Brother HL5150D printer is attached; printing using cups works fine, and if i set samba

3.0.21c: idmap_rid segfaults on AIX 5.3 ML4
Hi everyone, I'm trying to use idmap_rid on an AIX 5.3 ML4 machine. Samba compiled successfully using the IBM compiler (vac.C) version 6. The only programs I supplied where db and libiconv. I followed the instructions, and put nsswitch/WINBIND in /usr/lib/security, and edited /usr/lib/security/methods.cfg. When I start "winbindd -i", it coredumps with a Signal 11: (dbx) where

Printing problem
Hi, I ran into a strange printing-problem: We're using OpenBSD 4.2 and Samba Version 3.0.28 and include our printers directly from /etc/printcap; whenever I enter a printername that contains numbers, smbd gives me the errors below. Any idea why samba messes up with digits in printernames? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /var/log/log.smbd

printcap = coredump
First off, I'm upgrading my school's version of samba, they have 941 printers listed in the printcap file. The old version of samba works. When I run "smbd -D", it waits a few seconds then replies "IOT trap (core dumped)." gdb has errors tracing through it. Here is a snip from log.smb (the only log file I get) at level 10 logging (plus some extra debug statements I

Bad file modification date/time stamps created from windows clients
I'm running samba server version 3.0.28a on an HP-UX pa-risc machine with XP-pro windows clients. When a windows client creates a new file on the samba share the modification time is not set correctly. On the HP-UX side date/time stamp shows as: % ls -l README -rwxr--r-- 1 e6b564 users 1081 Dec 13 1901 README The date/time stamp is always "Dec 13 1901" ?

samba 3.6.4 smbd dies on solaris 10 sparc64
Hi list, Disclaimer: not a subscriber, not a samba expert, just trying to get samba running on a Solaris 10 system. We build samba 3.6.4 from source for various platforms. We link against our own builds of cyrus-sasl 2.1.23, openldap 2.4.23, and openssl 1.0.0h. On Solaris we also compile against krb5-1.10.1. Builds are done with GNU tools whenever possible (gcc/ld/make). The build host, as well

Cannot get plaintext+pam auth to work on 4.2.10
Hello, After an almost 19 year gap, I need to ask this list for help again :-) I have somewhat specific circumstances, where I think I can tolerate plaintext passwords on the wire as long as I get samba to authenticate against the system /etc/shadow (using PAM) in exchange. 0) I'm using Debian 8.4 (jessie), samba packages 2:4.2.10+dfsg-0+deb8u3. 1) I have created user smbtest with password

3.0.22 on solaris9 does not start as daemon
I'm trying to start smbd (samba 3.0.22) as daemon (smbd -D --configfile=/etc/smb.conf) on solaris 9 sparc with current recommended patches but the smbd process never returns from trying to become a daemon. Samba was built with ldap, (heimdal) kerberos and active directory support using gcc 3.3.2 from sunfreeware. Solaris 9 is a new install on a development machine with production patches.
