Samba printing on Solaris 8
Hi: I am new to the Samba world and I am having problems with printing. I have Samba installed on a Solaris 8 server. I can see the Samba shares and the printer (lasersys) in Windows Explorer. I have installed the printer on my workstation (NT 4.0) using the Windows 'Add Printer' wizard. However, when I send a print job to the printer (Wordpad:File > Print) the job never gets to the

Problem printing from win98SE client
I am trying to print to my HP 722c printer from a Windows 98SE client. My Samba server is a Mandrake 8.2 running version 2.2.3a. I can print from the linux computer but not from Windows. I am able to save files to the shared directory so I know that the networking is okay. I can open the Printer folder from Windows and I see the Samba printer there. I double click on the printer to bring up

CUPS setup with 3.0.3pre1
Hello, I am currently trying to setup Samba 3.0.3pre1 to share my freshly installed LaserJet. I have NOT had any printer until now, so I can't tell you if the behavior was different before 3.0.3pre1. The problem: My smb.conf contains: > [global] > ## Printing > load printers = yes > printcap name = cups > printing = cups > [printers] > comment

Patch for print_svid.c
Hi ! I have a patch for print_svid.c, that enhances the usage of the "printcap=lpstat" option under System V. It not only gets the names of the printers via lpstat, but also the comments from the unix printing system. It works under Solaris, and should also work with SCO. I haven't access to other System V based systems. I don't know if this list is the appropriate place to

Why does lpstat run on Solaris Samba 3.0.1?
Hello, all; I need help with getting lpstat _not_ to run. I'm running Samba 3.0.1 on a Sun Solaris 8 server to share out a few print queues, and it works a treat. I also run a print spooler & job management product called Xi-Text, which displaces several of the stock lp* binaries; their implementation of lpstat (among other programs) doesn't completely replicate Sun's

3.0.8/3.0.9 printing tdb entries not clearing
Hi all, We have a strange issue with printing tdb entries not clearing. From what I can tell, this may be an issue on Solaris (5.9) but not on Linux (2.4.18) - I have 3.0.8 (and since last night .9) on a linux server and a solaris one. I don't see the problem on print queues hosted on the linux box. The symptom is that you can print from both XP and 98 and the print job appears on the

Printing permissions problem
OK, I just took my first non-root user live on my Samba 3.0.7 system. Printing is via cups, with drivers stored in the print$ share. This user is a local power user. She can add printers, or root can add them. Root can also print from them. If this user tries to print anything (a test page even) she gets a non-verbose error that looks like a permissions error. She can view the queues

Strange unexplainable CUPS problem after upgrade to 5.10
I manage a bunch of workstations at the Wendell Free Library. They are all diskless, boot via PXE and mount all of their file systems via NFS from a server. All of the machines are 32-bit and run CentOS (fully up-to-date running 5.10). There are two printers with queues managed on the server. The server 'shares' these printers on the local LAN (eg with all of the workstations).

printing = cups issue ....
Using samba 3.4.9 and cups 1.4.3 I have "printing = cups", but for some reason samba is not picking up the cups printers or creating the printers share. The problem is obviously this, from the samba logs: [2011/03/28 14:09:43, 0] printing/print_cups.c:103(cups_connect) Unable to connect to CUPS server localhost:631 - Connection refused However, cupsd is most certainly listening

windows printer queue display fails
I am driving a Suse 8.2 linux with cups 1.1.18 and samba 2.2.7a. The problem: The host serves several printers via cups. If some jobs are in one of the queues "lpq -Pprinter" or "lpstat -o printer" shows up the complete listing. Fine. Connected to the same print queue from a Windows (XP/NT/98/2k) box I cannot see the complete listing. Sometimes I see some of the jobs, most of
