Problem with ticket lifetimes of Linux clients authenticating to Samba 4 AD
Hi, I've recently migrated an LDAP/Kerberos 5 setup to a Samba 4 based Active Directory, mainly to support a couple of Windows clients. Since this is a small private network, I've set quite long kerberos ticket lifetimes in smb.conf on the DC. These work fine on the Windows clients, but are somehow completely ignored on the Linux clients, where users always get the default ticket lifetime

Samba AD with internal DNS: Can't resolve aliases anymore
Hi, I've setup a Samba 4 based AD server a while ago and everything was working fine for some time. However, since a few days it seems it doesn't resolve aliases anymore. I can query them using the host command, but a simple ping then fails to resolve the name: % host alias1 alias1.altum.de is an alias for server1. % ping alias1

Setting up Point 'n' Print
I am having some problems with uploading printer drivers. I follow the procedures as outlined in both TOSHARG and Samba-3 by Example, and I use the Add Printer Drivers Wizard to upload the drivers. It looks OK, and the drivers make into the \\server\print$\W32X86\3 directory. But when I click okay, I get "Printer settings could not be saved. Access is denied." This happens when

Standalone PDC XP-Win7 clients can't join domain.
I have setup a Samba PDC Version 3.4.3 under Debian. I have read the TOSHARG and By Example chapters regarding domain logins as well as anything else I could find. The machines (seem) to join the domain successfully but when the machines requre a domain administrator account privilege escalation fails. The Win7 machine fails with the message "The machine trust account failed" I

getent & winbindd on FreeBSD 5.4
I'm trying to get a FreeBSD 5.4 server to join a NT4 domain as a member domain server using winbindd. I've compiled Samba with WinBIND support, ACL Support, Syslog support, UTMP support, SMB PAM module, and with installed POPT library. I've reviewed Chapter 20 of TOSHARG and implemented a good portion of it into our smb.conf file but am having trouble making the 'getent'

security with normal profiles
Following TOSHARG and "Samba 3 by examples" I implemented Folder redirection plus some security restrictions by building a custom NTUSER.DAT which is the default profile of my users. The problem is that each user has read/write access to its profile share therefore he can replace its NTUSER.DAT. This is why I chose mandatory profiles. Is there another solution? The problem with

Samba PDC + OpenLDAP + Samba BDC
Hello everyone, the time for me to use a OpenLDAP server is getting closer ( :( yikes..I'm still scared sorta) , I currently have a Samba PDC with tdbsam with 50 users goes fine, our company will grow (doing our best) in this year by a minimum of 25-30 computers, and I've stuided the TOSHARG , and it says that for every 50 computer a bdc is suggested. The questions : 1.how does

Can't get 3.0.23d from SuSE RPM to be a member in an NT4 domain
Been working with Samba back to 1.9 or so, but this is the first time I've tried to set it up as a domain member server. I followed (I think) the instructions on how to do this in TOSHARG (which are about as disjointed as the book, which I took back), but I continue to be unable to get the box, running winbind, to reliably authenticate users off the PDC, which is running NT4 (and I'm not

Samba PDC - Samba Member Server
The configuration I'm trying to use is a SAMBA PDC with a SAMBA Member Server, using tdbsam. Binaries for SuSE 9.3 from the samba web page, version 3.0.14a-4.1.i586.rpm. This is SuSE 9.3 Pro with patches and kernel up-to-date thru 20050708. I need to use Samba 3.0.14a because in production the Samba PDC will have to work with several Samba member servers and 3 Windows 2003 member servers.

getent and wbinfo not returning expected results?
Hello, For some time now have been trying to connect a Samba-3.0.14a-0.4 server running on SuSE Ent 9 linux server to our Exchange 2003 (running on Server 2003 Std w/ SP1) server which is also the AD server for our domain. I can connect to the shares using the AD as the authentication source, so the basic functionality is there but some command output does not show in the way i expect

Samba PDC (and Users/Machines) join Server 2003 Domain
I've been reading the Official How-To, Chap. 6, Joining an NT4-type Domain with Samba-3 because I want to join my current Samba3 PDC server and all its users (on Win XP Pro machines) to an MS Server 2003 domain. Not sure if I am understanding the material. It seems as if I can join the Samba3 server to the to the Server 2003 domain, but not all the user accounts. Is this correct? What I want

Roaming profiles problem
Hi, I've a samba server set up with a ldap backend an I'v configured it to use roaming profiles (ie: logon path = \\%L\%U\profile), the users homes are exported by nfs to the server. My problem is that the profile of the user always end up in C:/Documents and Settings/$user . I've already erased the local profile and the profile directory in the users home dir, but every time that
