samba 3 performance
Yes, I get more than 30MB/s performance. The benchmark I use (NetBench)
is essentially CPU bound, such that a faster processor = faster
performance. With a very fast hardware config (dual 3.2GHz processors),
I've been able to hit around 100MB/s. Changing the RAM or other
attributes does not buy me much, it seems that processor power is the
bottleneck (at least in my case).

Netbench running on Samba 1.9.18alpha4
I have installed the latest alpha of samba (1.9.18alpha4) with the
intent of testing against the Ziff-Davis benchmark NetBench. The
compile and install went OK, and I can see the server in the browser and
connect to the public share I created (logins work OK). Running the
tests in DIAGNOSIS.txt produces no errors also.
I can also install netbench and start up the controller from the binary

Samba + Windos XP/2k + Netbench Problem
Hi all,
there is a problem with the 'Default: nt smb support = yes' option in
smb.conf for at least Samba 2.2.3a and 2.2.4 (on FreeBSD 4.5-STABLE)
when using Netbench 7.0.2 on WXP or W2k clients.
If the client is set to run 2+ Netbench engines (to simulate 2+ real
clients) and 'nt smb support = yes', all but one engine fail pretty
quickly, usually during a movefile oder

mapping with username: "user@domain" failed
Hi All,
When trying to map my SAMBA share from WinXP, it prompted me for name
and password but it failed when I used name@domain.com
However, using "domain\name" worked.
Any idea why my SAMBA server didn't accept this name style name@domain
?
Assume: Realm (AD domain): domain.com
Pre-windows2000: domain
Username: name
Samba server: 3.0.7 (soon will switch to latest)

Joining a domain controller with a conflict name
Hi All,
Is it a way to prevent joining a domain with a netbios name that already
used by other domain member?.
For example, if I have SAMBA server "SA1" already joined a domain and
then I go to a different SAMBA server and make it join the same domain
with the name "SA1" also.
What I found out is that the domain controller does not care and it will
let me join the

User can't access a share that he has full control of
Hi all,
I have noticed that if you create a share to path lets say
\\dir1\dir2\dir3
And a user lets say u1 has full control on dir3 BUT no control at all on
dir2 then user u1 cannot access the share.
Is it right?
We have a situation with clients who typically do the following:
Create a share to the root of the file system and give only to
administrator full control on for the root path

Netbench 6.0/Windows 2000 and samba
Has anyone gotten Netbench 6.0 running on Windows 2000 clients to work
under samba?
I'm running Samba 2.1.0-prealpha on linux with Windows 2000 professional
clients. When I try to run it, it initializes successfully but when it
starts to execute a test I get the error "Mix lock of handle 6 for length 1
at offset 2147483538 Failed". I'd appreciate any help. Nothing peculiar

Support for multiple file streams?
Hello,
Look like demand for multiple file streams support increased lately.
Does samba 3 series intend to support it any time soon?
Look like SAMBA 4 is working on it based on the following form Andrew
Tridgell:
One simple but important example of how the new NTVFS layer helps is the
addition of support for "NT file streams." A file in a NT filesystem can

I need a solution for that to move on, because my boss will not like to
stop using that chars...
Thanks for any help

How do I make win file explorer not to show "Printers and Faxes"
Hi All,
How do I make windows file explorer to not show "Printers and Faxes" when
clicking on SAMBA server while browsing for Microsoft Windows Network. Also,
once I click on it, the "Add Printer" icon shows up.
In smb.conf I have:
show add printer wizard = no
load printers = no
But it doesn't seems to help.
Any idea?
Am I missing something in smb.conf or something

Joined 2 samba servers to ADS but kinit in winbindd failed for one of them!
Hi All,
I have strange situation in which two systems running SAMBA (same
version) have successfully joined an ADS.
However one has no problem using wimbindd/ wbinfo to communicate with
the domain and kinit in winbindd works fine.
But the other is failing with a kinit problem as following:

NetBench testing of Samba machines
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I'm running some netbench tests, and I have some questions I'd like to ask.
First, what is the difference between the dm.tst and ent_dm.tst NetBench
suites?
Second, what results have people been getting with Samba 3.0.0? I'm
seeing a peak at 340.00 for ent_dm.tst and 101.00 for dm.tst on a P4
system with 512 MB RAM.
Any information

Failed to join win2008 domain when "server ldap signing is required".
Hello,
We are running samba 3.0.34 and having problem joining windows 2008 domain when "server ldap signing is required".
We configured start-tls, copied over the CA certificate but getting an error for the request to start ssl/tls
To be exact, here is what we see in wireshark:
Our request to the domain: requestName: 1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.20037 (LDAP_START_TLS_OID)

client connections to shares
Hi All,
I am wondering:
Is it possible for a windows client to use separate tcp/ip connection per
share.
Meaning that if we have SAMBA server that shares let's say three shares,
then each client that connect to those shares (tcon) will end up having
three tcp/ip connections with the server and of course there will be three
separate smbd to handle each share.
Essentially configuring SMBA

"net rpc testjoin falils" and after few second OK!!
Hi All,
Does anyone has an idea why sometimes when I issue "net rpc testjoin"
right after I joined the domain using ("net ads join") I get an error :
"Error in domain join verification (fresh connection)"
But after waiting few seconds, testjoin is succeed like a Swiss watch.
Its only happens when I join as ADS and only to one of my windows 2003
ADS domain.

Joining domain across subnet
Hi All,
If I have domain controller on a different subnet than the samba server
and I would like to join that domain controller in an environment
without WINS, meaning only DNS available.
Unfortunately, it failed.
Is it possible to do it? I am using domain type DOMAIN (not ADS) in
smb.conf and the command I used is: "net join -Uname%passwd"
I looked at the -d 10 log info and

change share command in smb.conf
Hi,
Regarding "change share command" option in smb.conf.
I am not using it by I am wondering how it can ever work if input
parameters don't include existing share name.
I mean if you want to change existing share name to new share name,
don't you need to get the old share name too?
It can only work if what you want to change is the path or the comment
and the input
