smbclient doesn't get browse list from XP master browser
I've spent hours searching the archives and online documentation, but still haven't been able to find the answer to my browse problem; I hope someone here can help. I'm trying to get smbclient to show the browse list from a windows xp machine that's the master browser on my subnet. I have a very simple home network (single subnet). My workgroup is 'arda'. My windows

cannot get a list of Win2000/NT shares using SMBCLIENT -L with anonymous login
Hi folks, From my RedHat Linux box Im using smbclient L to obtain the list of shares on a particular computer in the network. I use guest as user name or just omit the user name. I can get the list of shares on every single Linux or Win9X machines in the network but I cannot obtain the list of shares on Win2000 and Win NT machines. Here is what I tried: [user1@linuxbox user1]$ smbclient

Retrieving browser lists
I've searched the Samba docs, man pages, Using Samba, and a few other places. I've been unable to find a way to retrieve the browse list (as in Network Neighborhood or net view on Win32) from Samba. I'm using a RH 6.2 box running Samba 2.0.7 in a multi-subnet workgroup (which is really a domain, but I don't have a machine trust account and I'm using security = server). Samba is

domain master list - cross subnet?
samba-3.0.10-1.4E on RHEL4-AS. I've got a test domain setup and working just fine. Windows XP clients are authenticating just fine. The only problem I have so far is my domain browser list is not correct. I can see everything in my subnet fine, but can't see anything outside my subnet. This is different than my NT4 domain, who's browse list shows me every domain within the larger

current master browser = UNKNOWN / failing WINS test #1 on 3.0.23c
I am having trouble with one of my samba PDC's. It does not recognize itself as the domain master browser even though it is set to be so. I can not add machines to this domain and I suspect this is why. Has anybody seen this or know what causes it? Notice this: DOMAIN_ALBANY(3) current master browser = ALBANY_PDC DOMAIN_NYC(2) current master browser = NYC_PDC

Trusted domain problem (maybe networking)
Hello, I have spent the afternoon learning how to configure my routers to allow directed-broadcast with an access list, so that I can allow two different domains on different subnets to trust each other. Now I can do a broadcast ping from either subnet to the other, and I can also do smbclient -L <remote_pdc> and get the shares, from one side. From the other side I cannot. Let me

smbclient -L returns NT_STATUS_REVISION_MISMATCH
Hi all, Sorry for this question which has certainely already been answered, but I could not find info in the list nor in the wiki. From my Debian laptop running testing (samba 4.9.5) and with an empty smb.conf (I wanted to be sure that only default values are used), I can not browse shares of a Windows 10 machine (sorry, Thunderbird splits some lines): smbclient -L 192.168.122.200 Unable to

smbclient -L behavior
Hi, I'm trying to have a program automate getting a browse list via smbclient -L. I am having a problem with the way it handles passwords. For example, if I run: smbclient -L SERVER Then it prompts for a password. I can just press enter and it will show the shares and browse list. However, if I then try, smbclient -N -L SERVER it gives me access denied. Is there a difference between

Windows 2000 local master browser won't sync with Samba server domain master browser
I apologize in advance if this has been asked on the list already, but trying to find an answer to my question on the archives has been like trying to find a needle in a haystack... I'm trying to implement cross-subnet workgroup browsing. The domain master browser for the workgroup is a Samba box (2.0.6) acting also as a WINS server. All was well during our initial testing phases when Windows

domain master browser
I'd like my Samba server to be a Domain Master Browser for a workgroup (let's call it 'ENGINEER'). I set it up according to BROWSING.txt, but yet Windows NT/95 PCs on other subnets are unable to browse and see computers on this subnet (even if those PCs are also in the same workgroup). It appears that the Samba is not acting as the Domain Master Browser ... at least as far as

Cannot sync browser list
Hi, Samba 3.0.2a, Debian linux, 2.6.x kernel, PDC server, WinXP clients I'm setting up a PDC server, and it's also acting as a browse master. A few days ago the computer was given the IP adress 10.0.0.6 by our DHCP server. Since then I've changed the network to use 192.168.1.x IP's instead, and the server has now got 192.168.1.3 as it's IP. But, even though I've

Hi all. I have a problem. I'm trying to let samba run as WINS server and as domain master. But if I run nmbd in debug mode it says: dump workgroup on subnet UNICAST_SUBNET: netmask= 10.8.0.1: FREAKYYDE(1) current master browser = UNKNOWN MASTER 40899a03 (master server) the servers hostname is master. i've tried to explicitly set it in the config but it

using smbclient without netbios names
I am trying to connect to computers running windows9x knowing only the IP address using smbclient. on windows computers i can type \\130.15.210.185 in the address bar and browse the shares of computers that don't show up in my network neighbourhood (computers on other subnets don't seem to show up, but i can still use them by typing the IP in) I am using smbclient like so:

Domain master browser for multiple domains?
Hi, As I understand it, for cross-subnet browsing to work, we need a domain master for each workgroup/domain? This presents a problem since many of our workgroups/domains are just a collection of Windows 95 machines and so do not have a domain controller to be a domain master browser. Can we make Samba be a domain master browser for multiple domains/work- groups (the list of domains/workgroups

Can a router be a local master browser in a NT domain?
Can a router between two subnets (call it A and B) be the local master browser of the one subnet (net A) in a NT domain, when the Domain Master Browser (as well as PDC and BDC) are located in the other subnet (B)? Will say, does the Domain Master Browser of a NT domain accept a Local Master Browser in the same subnet (as the router is accessed from B via the interface ethB)? The reason for my

smbclient -L hostname -N ==>error
Hello, I am a Samba newbie, setting up Samba on a FreeBSD machine in a Windows (2K) environment [or the other way around] - all in a small LAN behind a DSL router / firewall. The machines recognize each other in that I can ping to both in either directions using either IP #'s or hostnames. On the PC's I am using LMHOST , no local WINS or local DNS (there are DNS's on the WAN side of

Cannot Sync Browser Lists
I run an IPsec/Freeswan VPN to connect 4 disparet windows LANS. I managed to RTFM until cross-subnet browsing worked (samba 2.0). Having upgraded to 2.2.3 It would seem that this feature is not working. BACKGROUND: originally all sources of information led me to understand that I would need a box running samba behind the firewall/IPsec box as I could not even ping a remote internal IP from the
