[help!] bad file number / dlopen failure
Dear list, I'd appreciate some input from experts. I'm on Solaris 8, openssh 3.9p1, openssl 0.9.7e, samba 2.2.9. I'm using winbind so Windows users can use UNIX services. Pop, telnet, ftp work with both windows and unix passwords OK, but I have a problem with ssh. Ssh accepts unix password, but not windows password. I'm trying to do password authentication, but it fails with

getent passwd & getent group returning UID and GID using Winbind 4.1.x series samba
Just to make sure that I'm on the right path to get this working the way I would like. I have a linux file server that has used LDAP the user and group information in the past. I would like to migrate (recreate) the same users and groups in the samba4 AD DC, adding the UID and GID attributes. So that I don't have to change the UID and GID permissions on the file servers. The migration

getent passwd does not show correct UID.GID
I've moved a user from being in /etc/passwd to being a proper domain user. I've added the user with RSAT with UID.GID 10005.10000. I've removed the user from /etc/passwd. However, getent continues to show the user with his old UID: # getent passwd mpress HPRS\mpress:*:3000031:10000:Mike Press:/home/HPRS/mpress:/bin/bash in ldbsearch it shows the correct UID:GID: # record 281 dn:

[support@mydivaplayer.com: Re: Ogg Vorbis support? -=[2214]=-]
I'm not subscribed to this list, but I have been reading the archive online for awhile now. I thought this forward may be of interest. It sounds like we _might_ have Vorbis capable players in the near future! :) Any more word on support from iRiver? The hardware URL has not been updated since they were supposedly shipping Vorbis capable units to Xiph. -- Mark Nipper

dbWriteTable error message
I am at loss of what is going on here ... I am trying to write to a SQLite database: con <- dbConnect(dbDriver("SQLite"), dbname="pres-docs.rqda") I have a data frame that is 889 rows by 7 columns. The column number and types agree with the database table columns and column type. dbWriteTable(con, "fileAttr", DF.4, row.names=FALSE, overwrite=TRUE) Then I get

Problem looping a function to create/add to new dataframe
Dear List Members, I have created a function to run a simulation based on a given set of values within a vector, such that I run the function like this: new.data<-sapply(vector, function) In which I run 'function' on every value within a vector that I created. The result is a matrix of 1000 rows, and as many columns as the length of the vector. I modified the function to utilize

replicate lines of data frame
Greetings! I am just now learning to use R for my dissertation project. I need to manipulate a lot of text and numeric data. I created a data frame that has 7 columns and 127 unique rows. Now I need to replicate each line 6 times and then later change values in the first 2 columns. I am trying to figure out how to accomplish this. I think that I need to use rep(my.df, each=6) but it does

FTP access/SMBMount question
I've got an application at work where I have to perform an SMBMount when a user logs in, so they can get their share from the NT server. They're loggin into a linux system which is part of the NT Server domain and is not the PDC or SDC. Does anyone know of a reasonable method (examples would sure help!) to do this? choose.files limit?
Howdy, When I use the choose.files command to read files a large number of file names to a character vector inside a function, used to access these files one after the other, there appears to be a limit. I do not know whether it is arbitrary, but in this case the limit was 991 files. The file names are long. Does that matter? The error message that appears says that it cannot find file #992

Problem with smbmount and smbfs
I'm not sure if this has already be answered, but when I try to mount something using smbmount I get an error that smbfs needs mount version 6. I am running kernel 2.2.16-3 I was running 2.2.14-5.0 and I was still having the same problem. Is there a fix to this. Or is it a bug. I have not been able to find any documentation on the exact problem, just other people with the same problem.

unable to open passdb database.
I found many questions but no answers on the web. I described my needs in earlier post, but now switched from security = domain to security = server, and designated the AD domain server as the password server. It works as desired, i.e. I don't need smbpasswd any more, and if windows users change their passwords by ctrl-alt-del, they can later use the new password without coming to admins.

stacked plot
Hi! I am trying to use ggplot2 to create a stacked bar plot. Previously I tried using barplot() but gave up because of problems with the positioning of the legend and other appearance problems. I am now trying to learn ggplot2 and use it for all the plots that I need to create for my dissertation. I am able to create normal bar plots using ggplot2, but I am stomped with the stacked bar plots.
