FreeBSD, winbindd and Domain Groups
I have installed SAMBA from the ports collection and have run into a problem.
I am using winbind and I am able to list the groups and users from the
Windows 2003 Server (wbinfo -u, wbinfo -g, getent passwd, getent group)
without any problem.
I am able to display the shares on the SAMBA server using net view without
any problem.
However, when I try to connect to the share, I receive a message

3.04 acl new user/group adding problem
Hi all
I've written a few mails to the list hoping that I might get some hint to what
mistake I've been making in configuring my samba server with acl support, but
haven't been able to figure out much to date. I'm sending some parts of my
log files with a description of my problem as a last hope-- I will have to go
through the manuals from cover to cover if I dont get an

Hi,
I am trying to connect a FreeBSD server running 7.0 Release and Samba 3.0.28a to a

The problem on joining a computer running FreeBSD(v5.4) to a Windows 2003 Active Directory domain using samba3.
Hi,
I encountered a problem when I joined a FreeBSD machine to a windows =
2003 AD domain.
I passed following steps successfully:
1.#net ads join =A8CUAdministrator =20
2.#wbinfo =A8Cu
3.#wbinfo =A8Cg
But when I check:
#id Domain\\username (I can find this username using command =
=A1=B0wbinfo =A8Cu=A1=B1)
Id Domain\\username: no such user
=20
I found:
After restarting samba, there

Can't get single sign on to work after joining linux to an AD domain
Hi all,
I am trying to join PClinuxOS 2007 to an Active Directory domain, I was
able to get it to join following a guide off of Linux Magazine's
website. I can't post the URL because you need to be registered to view
the article so I have taken the liberty of copying and pasting the
article at the end of this message. Anyways what is happening is while I

FreeBSD 7.2 domain member problem
Hi!
I am trying to set a FreeBSD 7.2, Samba 3.3.8 as an AD domain member server.
I am not using LDAP, but idmap_rid. I have properly configured
nsswitch.conf.
Joining to domain and wbinfo -u work OK, but when I try
pw show user -a
I get only user accounts of FreeBSD. So, I cannot set owners, ACLs...
My main source is Samba guide chapter 7:

PDC Problems(winbind, joining domain, net groupmap, etc), FreeBSD 5.3, LDAP
Goal: Have Samba operate as a PDC using LDAP as its passwd backend.
Be able to have W2K servers as member servers.
Note: I have not posted any .conf files, because I not sure what files
would be relavent in seeing. Since somethings are working and
somethings are not.
Software list:

Samba-AD HowTo Was: RE: Can't get single sign on to workafter joining linux toan AD domain
For everyone else's reference, John just gave me a call and issued a challenge to put my money where my (big) mouth is. So i'll be doing some work on the documentation in the next little while, specifically to do with adding Samba member servers to an AD infrastructure. If you have troubleshooting tips you picked up, or suggestions of things that need to be included, please let me know.

getent group not listing domain groups / wbinfo -r not working
I know, I know, this again :)
The company I work for would like to use squid for proxy authentication
purposes using NTLM, using a Windows 2008 R2 server as a DC. I've
managed to setup samba/winbind to use ads and successfully joined the
domain. Configured nsswitch.conf to lookup winbind entities (however I
didn't touch PAM configuration, as I don't actually want the users to be

Samba as W2k3 AD domain member; how to configure domain controller failover?
Dear list,
I have a question how you configure Samba (configured as a W2k3 domain
member) to failover to a secondary AD domain controller when the connection
to the primary domain controller fails.
First some info:
- Windows 2003 Active directory (native mode), currently running with 2
domain controllers.
- Samba (version 3.0.9) running on a RHL9 server (updated with kerberos
1.3.1-7),

getent passwd user no output, addc + dm
Hmm.
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnss_winbind.so.2
With samba 4.5
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=samba shows 4.5 in zesty.
Did you recompile?
Please post the output of : winbindd -V
apt-cache policy winbind
or if the 4.5. installed from source, if so, then you have a mixed setup of "source" and deb packages, and that wont work.
If its from source, check for leftovers in

Samba-AD HowTo Was: RE: Can't get single sign on to work after joining linux toan AD domain
Hi all,
i've just gone through a fairly long and involved troubleshooting process trying to do something similar to the problem described below and just as a general observation, the documentation available for joining a Samba Server to an AD domain tends to be disjointed and difficult to find. The Samba By Example doesn't really mention Samba in an AD network at all and the Official

winbind: wbinfo -g sees "domain users", getent group does not
I have configured winbind on a Linux file server, connecting to a
Samba PDC. When I run wbinfo -g, I can see the group "domain users".
On the other hand, when I run getent group, I do not see this group.
Apart from a few other groups, all groups are visibile in both wbinfo
-g and getent group.
When running for the first time wbinfo -u, getent passwd and wbinfo
-g, I got the results

Joining samba-3.0.0beta3-1 to a Win3k Domain as a member server
Hello
I am currently setting up a new domain structure at work, and am trying
to set up samba to authenticate against my Active directory domain. What
I am having trouble doing is joining the Linux system to the domain.
The system is running Redhat 8.0, no updates with samba-3.0.0beta3
Here is the error I get

Samba3.0.1pre1 winbind failing against domain groups(ADS)
Winbindd is having trouble finding the Domain Admins group in my domain.
It appears to be searching for the group but does not show what domain
it's looking into - then it tries the local PC (ANC-Gentoo):

Domain member seems to work, wbinfo -u not (update2)
New update.
I now have done about 6 machines.
2 with samba 4.2.10 work fine, 2 not.
1 with samba 4.3.7 works fine, 1 not.
I saw Jelmer updated the samba to 4.3.8 in sid, so i recompiled these to jessie.
I upgraded the 4.3.7 to 4.3.8
Same result. Wbinfo -g works, -u not. For both servers.
I notice one strange thing here.
I have 2 servers, both samba 4.2.10, all stock debian

"Error looking up domain users" when doing "wbinfo -u" on PDC
Hi,
I have Samba running as a PDC. When doing "wbinfo -u" I get "Error
looking up domain users".

Trusted domain users unwantedly mapping onto local domain users
Having set up two way trust between a Samba domain (with LDAP backend)
and an AD domain, I find that
1. Users from the trusted domain are authenticated against the proper
DC (that is, their regular password works), but only if there is a
corresponding local domain user.
2. Users from the trusted domain are being mapped onto Samba/POSIX
users associated with the local Samba domain, despite
