Cumulative percentage by unit of time
Hi All, I've been struggling on that one for a couple of days. I've tried several things, but nothing is worth publishing. I'm working with a bird nests data frame for which I have a laying date (LD) and a fledgling date (FD) (in calendar Julian date) by nest id. For the period spanning between LD and SD, the nest is termed "active". Each nest id occur once in the data

activeldap and migrations
Stupid activeldap is messing with my mind ;-) rails (3.1.1 activeldap (3.1.0) rubygems-update (1.4.2) I have activerecord (database.yml/postgresql) and activeldap (ldap.yml) as configured sources for my models. I want to add some more things to my models but activeldap is killing my attempts to create migrations... cwhite@nxpc:~/tti_framework$ rails generate migration AddSettings error

Compress (gzip) a pdf device
I have not found an easy way to compress a file on filesystem. Especially I'd like to compress a pdf from pdf() function/device. Is it possible to compress It on the flight? I'd like to do something like: pdf(gzipconnection()) dev.off() If It is not possible, how can I create a gzip with the pdf? How to save a model in DB and retrieve It
I'm wondering how to save an object (models like lm, loess, etc) in a DB to retrieve and use it afterwards, an example: wind_ms <- abs(rnorm(24*30)*4+8) air_kgm3 <- rnorm(24*30, 0.1)*0.1 + 1.1 wind_dg <- rnorm(24*30) * 360/7 ms <- c(0:25) kw_mm92 <- c(0,0,0,20,94,205,391,645,979,1375,1795,2000,2040) kw_mm92 <- c(kw_mm92, rep(2050, length(ms)-length(kw_mm92))) modelspline

ARIMA, AR, STEP
Here is my problem: Autoregressive models are very interesting in forecasting consumptions (eg water, gas etc). Generally time series of this type have a long history with relatively simple patterns and can be useful to add external regressors for calendar events (holydays, vacations etc). arima() is a very powerful function but kalman filter is very slow (and I foun difficulties of estimation)

Optimise huge data.frame construction
I have data for different items (ID) in a database. For each ID I have to get: - Timestamp of the observation (timestamp); - numerical value (val) that will be my response variable in some kind of model; - a variable number of variables in a know set (if value for a specific variable is not present in DB it is 0). To get to the above mentioned values I have to cycle

dataframe to a timeseries object
I?m wondering which is the most efficient (time, than memory usage) way to obtain a multivariate time series object from a data frame (the easiest data structure to get data from a database trough RODBC). I have a starting point using timeSeries or xts library (these libraries can handle time zones), below you can find code to test. Merging parallelization (cbind) is something I?m thinking at

Date time, MSSQL and RODBC
Hi, I have to connect to MSSQL server to get some TimeSeries value (datetime, float) on output. Datetime data type in R is a POSIXct date with information about timezone, daylight or solar time. In the DB I have not this kind of information and this cause some problem at the change of time for energy savings. Any idea on how to connect and have an simple and clear interpretation of date (without

Efficient coding
I have a piece of code as the one at the bottom, unfortunately since it involves time series from a db it's not easy to give to mailing list a working script. It becomes very slow after few hundred iterations over variable sp (must process several thousands). The Rprof() indicates that the problem is the use of gc(). Can someone indicate what I have to take care of not to call gc() so often?

Sol 10 x86_64 intermittent SATA device locks up server
Hello All, I have an issue where I have two SATA cards with 5 drives each in one zfs pool. The issue is one of the devices has been intermittently failing. The problem is that the entire box seems to lock up on occasion when this happens. I currently have the SATA cable to that device disconnected in the hopes that the box will at least stay up for now. This is a new build that I am

Large directories . . .
Howdy, I'm trying to set up a share for a unix directory for a client (obviously :). The problems arises when the user tries to list the files in a directory. There are 7500+ files in it, the result being that the pc hangs for a while then says that the server isn't responding. I looked at the caching and timeout options for both samba 1.9.X and 2.X, but none of them seem to affect the
