Samba password expiry time
I have found that when passwords are reset from a windows machine, the default password expiry period is around 40 days. I would like to change this to say 90 days, but have been unable to find a way. I tried the option "password expire time" but testparm doesn't seem to recognise it. There is nothing in the official Samba How-to about this. Has anyone managed to set thier

Mirror problems.
Hi there, I just tried a couple of ftp mirrors to grab the latest OpenSSH. ftp://ftp.solnet.ch/mirror/OpenBSD/OpenSSH/portable/ replies with a 550 and ftp://ftp.dragonbsd.swiss-anime.ch/pub/OpenBSD/OpenSSH/portable/ doesn't seem to have been updated since May. They were the first two I tried. Why me??? :) 73, Ged.

notebook users question
We have some staff that will be receiving notebook computers and will be doing field work (no internet access when not in the office). In the office they will be in our domain. But, how do I handle them logging into their computer when they are not in the office. They won't be able to contact the domain server for their login username and password. What are my options? Have them

Samba segment faulting - unknown cause
Hello, Recently our Samba server has started segment faulting. It happens occasionally, but is often enough to cause disruption. People notice thier network drives freeze, I am unsure of the cause of the segment fault, and have no experience debugging backtraces. Can anoyone lend a hand? We are running Samba as a primary domain controller with an Openldap backend on another server, both on

Samba AD member server and cached credentials?
Hi we are using a recent samba server in an AD W2003 domain. The AD DC's are located at the main location. The samba member servers (file-servers) are located at the outside locations. A User is able to logon to his Workstation, even if the Domaincontroller is not available, if he has already logged on to this workstation earlier (the clients caches the credentials). But the client is

Help with Linux offline cached credentials on a Windows domain
I have modified the native config files both Ubuntu and CentOS systems (laptops) to allow them to be added to a genuine Windows Active Directory domain. When on the network logins work fine. ? Take the systems off the network, and the user, even though their credentials are cached, cannot log in. There are several documented bugs on this for both Ubuntu and RedHat. Some people have posted

Cached credentials not working
Hello all, I'm setting up a domain using Samba 3.0 as PDC, with WinXP clients. One of these clients is a laptop, which should be able to use cached profiles of the domain users. Online logon is working fine, however when the domain server is not available it cannot logon, whereas it should be able to use cached credentials to access the cached profile. Windows says it cannot log on because

Noob question about cached credentials
Can a samba domain user login successfully to a PC in the domain if the PC is not connected to the network? This assumes the user has logged on at some point in the past to get their credentials on the local PC of course. Is this a "Standard" feature of SAMBA (allowing Cached credentials) or do you have to some how trick samba to allow this? I've looked in the Official

feature request: winbind use cached credentials more agressively
Hi! Winbind is rather suboptimally reacts to networking changes. I use my notebook in at least 3 different network settings, in one of them I have very probabilistic access to DCs (cisco vpn client is a crap). An nss lookup sometimes takes very looong, sometimes even returns failure. Sometimes I have to login as root and restart winbind to get to my X session past the screensaver. This is far

Cached credentials issues and domain and server name being interchanged
Hello all, I am having some difficulties after migrating the PDC from one server to another cached credentials no longer work. Users used to be able to take their laptops home and then logon using their cached domain credentials. Now when this is attempted now they get the error that the GAUACA domain is not available. All of the group policy settings are set to allow cached logons and

Closing event on a Notebook page.
How do I catch a closing event for a Notebook page. I have added a number of pages (class Panel) to a Notebook and I can remove them via the default close button on the pane. But I what to run some code before the page(Panel) is closed, so I assumed that it gets a ''evt_close'', but that seems not to be the case. How do I get to run some code before the page(Panel) closes?

How to get status of notebook lid?
Hello, I am using CentOS 5.1 on a toshiba tecra 8000 notebook. That works great so far. The only thing I could not realize is to shutdown the notebook if closing the lid. Therefor I need the current status (open or close) of the lid, but I don't know how. Is there any way to get this status, maybe under /proc/ or by some command? WinXP not caching credentials
I have three Windows XP (All SP2) machines that won't cache credentials with a Samba DC. A Debian Sarge system with Samba 3.0.10 is the domain controller. It has three users and three machine accounts. The three users all are simple Unix users, with no mapping to Windows users. We use DHCP (entirely different server) and DNS, but local IPs do not resolve. The configuration files for Samba

Notebook suspend instructions -- Gentoo to Centos
At: http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=06/05/24/1716222 are instructions for implementing suspend mode on a Linux notebook, but the script is for Gentoo and it seems like Centos needs something else. As this puts my system REALLY fast into Suspend, but it never comes back out. Further the temp file: var/tmp/video_state.XXXXXX is empty, so something is not right. Now for my system, HP

Problem with tabbed notebook (tcltk, Iwidgets)
Hi, I'm using R version 2.9.0 and I'm trying to execute an example using tabnotebook from iwidgets. Unfortunately I get a problem as you can see bellow: > library(tcltk) Loading Tcl/Tk interface ... done > library(tkrplot) > tclRequire("Iwidgets") <Tcl> 4.0.1 > > tt <- tktoplevel() > tkpack(tn <- tkwidget(tt, "iwidgets::tabnotebook"))

Installing CENTOS 6.1 to Intel notebook
I have a notebook with HM65 Express chipset and (internal Core i5 2520M) HD Graphics 3000, but a graphical install of CENTOS 6.1 froze the PC. I was able to install by selecting ?Install with basic video driver?, but that left the internal display distorted and the external display not recognized. I found a fix for the problem at

Asterisk on a notebook: Modem = FXO?
Hi, I've got a (maybe stupid) question: I'd like to install Asterisk on my notebook (just to play around with it). Is my internal phone modem equivalent to an FXO port? Hence, could I make phonecalls to my pots-line with it? thanks philipp
